Chapter 1474 Desperately Wanted A Promotion
Colin and Nathan turned to one another, and they were both shaken to the core.
Colin acted calm and gasped like he was into the gossip, "No way!”
Lewis got nervous when he saw that Colin didn't believe it. Lewis insisted, "It's true! At the veryleast, that's how the military in Mayberry operates.”
"However, money isn't the only thing that could determine one's ranking. It depended on theperson's ability and background too."
"Take me for example, I could only buy the rank of a major. Anything else would be out of my reacheven if I have the money."
Colin narrowed his eyes and asked, "Okay, so in your case, if you can buy a rank, how much wouldit cost you?"
"One million,” replied Lewis.
Colin gasped. He turned to look at Nathan, but he had started talking and drinking with Ty.
Colin then told Lewis, "I can't really help you with your promotion. As you know, I belong to theNorth Army while you are with the East. We're in different sections, so there isn't anything I can do."
Lewis was clearly disappointed.
"But I can lend you a million," added Colin suddenly.
What?
Lewis was stunned for a moment. He became excited and asked, "Are you sure?"
"Yes," replied Colin.
Lewis became excited and held his drink up. "You're a true family. I will definitely repay yourkindness in the future.”
Colin drank with Lewis. All Colin thought about was I'd be glad if you just don't hate me.
The party ended later and the guests left.
Colin reported the matter to Nathan, and Nathan immediately decided. He banked in a million intoLewis' account.
Lewis was ecstatic when he got the money.
Nathan and Colin stood at the front of the door and watched as Lewis drove away.
Colin commented, "General, my cousin is ambitious, and he desperately wanted a promotion.”
"If the military ranks were really up for sale, then he will definitely be promoted soon enough."
Nathan had his hand behind his back, and he looked grim. "This is a very serious matter!"
"Find some way to have our people monitor Lewis. I want to know who he meets and what he doesin the next few days."
Colin replied, "Understood."
Nathan and the others stayed in Colin's house for the next few days.
However, Colin didn't slack off and had his people spy on Lewis.
On the fifth day, Colin rushed to Nathan and reported, "General, we just got the news. Lewis hadbeen promoted."
Nathan narrowed his eyes when he heard that. He sounded cruel when he said, "Looks like themilitary ranks in Mayberry really are for sale. That Christopher Windsor is really something else!"
Colin couldn't help but ask, "What should we do next, General?"
Nathan replied, "Follow the lead and investigate this matter. We must nab the mastermind!"
"Understood," said Colin.
Nathan then asked, "Who had Lewis been in contact with, and who accepted his money?"
Colin answered, "The one who contacted
Lewis might be the Head of Christopher's Personal Guard, Yanis Howard."
"After Lewis got in touch with Yanis, he spent that one million on tea in a shop owned by one ofYanis' family members. Two days later, Lewis received the official letter informing him that he hadbeen promoted."
Nathan scoffed, "They even have a system for it. It's obvious that this is not the first time they didsomething like this."
"Find a way for me to meet this Yanis Howard. He is Christopher's right-hand man and handles a lotof his dealings. Moreover, he has been working with Christopher for a time now, so he must know alot. We will get sufficient evidence against Christopher and his people if we want to take him down."
Colin replied, "Understood."
