Salute To The General
Chapter 1578

Chapter 1578

You think too little of me, Phoebe! Do you think I'm the sort of person who would keep grudges?”Santiago mused.

“Of course not. You're the type of person that has both brains, brawns, and courage to boot,”Phoebe replied with a chuckle.

Indeed, Santiago was regarded as the pride and joy of his family after the series of unfortunateevents struck them.

He immediately adapted to his situation and took the initiative to call off the engagement inexchange for beneficial conditions. He basically single-handedly halted the decline of the Liebermanfamily and had actually started making them rise once again in recent years.

Anyone that had that kind of ability would

definitely be regarded as a genius.

Nevertheless, Santiago only gave a slight smile in response to the compliments.

“We haven't met in ten years now. I'm sure you're not just here to have a drink with me, right?”Phoebe said with an awkward smile while fiddling with her glass.

“What happened to my family ten years ago made it clear that the princess of the Davier family wasout of my league. So I annulled the engagement to not implicate your family as well,” Santiagoreplied.

“Truth be told, at the time, I didn't wish for the engagement to be called off,” he continued.

“What about now?” Phoebe asked with a grin.

“Now? I see a man and a woman who are both still single. Hence, I do not wish to leave behind anyregrets, nor do I want to delay this any further. I want to marry you,” Santiago calmly said.

“Do you really want to marry me? Or do you want to get back into the circle?” Phoebe teased.

“Both!” Santiago declared.

Phoebe flashed a look of surprise on her face. Marriages between distinguished families were rarelypure and were commonly associated with mutual benefits for the families involved.

However, for Santiago to say it outright that he wanted both to marry her and also use her family'sconnections to further his own agenda came as a surprise for her.

“I'm sure you're aware that I had an engagement with Darren Dilk before he died and that I hostedhis funeral as his widow. Do you not mind?” Phoebe said nonchalantly.

“He's already dead, so why would I?” Santiago calmly rebutted the loaded question.

Phoebe was stunned at how casually he answered her.

After regaining some of her composure, she looked into his eyes and said, “The way you look atthings is truly unique. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well you responded. But if you really want tomarry me, you can do it on one condition. It could also be treated as a test of your capabilities. Ifyou manage to accomplish what I ask, I will be your wife.”

Santiago took a sip from his glass and replied with a smug grin, “You want me to help you get rid ofthe General of the North, Nathan Cross, don't you?”

Phoebe was surprised by how quickly Santiago managed to grasp the situation yet again. This manis far too intelligent!

“What do you say?” she asked with a squint.

“Well, they do say that whoever kills the king gets to be one, and I have always fancied the positionof Commander-in-chief of the North Army. I can help you get rid of Nathan, but I'd like to take overhis spot after that,” Santiago answered with a chuckle.

“As long as you take care of Nathan, I'll marry you, and you'll be part of the Davier family. Restassured - nothing is impossible for us,” Phoebe responded.

Santiago's eyes lit up with a burning passion upon hearing her words.

The current President's term is almost over, and the candidates closest to being elected next areClifford Davier and Boris Tucker. If Clifford really does become the next President, I could make useof my status as their son-in-law and ascend to the top! We would truly be a family of officials!

Midnight, at a house in Riverside Garden.

Penny was laying on the bed with Nathan in their bedroom having some pillow talk.

“Nathan, I heard that Phoebe is Mr. Davier's daughter, and she came all the way from Brimmopolisto cause trouble. Is this the last we'll hear of her?” Penny whispered.

“It'll be fine. I've already told Mr. Davier about what happened. I'm sure he'll stop her from causingtoo much trouble. Plus, I've also warned the fathers of the Excalibur members. They should keeptheir precious children in check from now on,” Nathan reassured her.

“Okay then,” Penny replied.

But what Nathan and Penny didn't know was that not only had Phoebe not given up, she evenenlisted the help of Santiago. Together, they schemed to use even more ruthless methods to getwhat they wanted...
