Chapter 1584
Chapter 1584
Nathan was hanging onto the rope ladder with Penny in his arms as the helicopter descendedrapidly.
His rich experience on the battlefield and countless near-death experiences allowed him to keep hiscool.
They were about seven meters away from the ground when he released his grip on the ladder.
The helicopter spiraled downward swiftly and crashed on the street. The crew inside the helicopterdied on the spot.
Nathan and Penny were still free falling.
He held Penny tightly and shifted so his back would land first.
Thud!
Nathan fell and landed on his back on top of ₐ vehicle, causing a huge dent. Nathan groaned whileblood trickled out from the corner of his lip.
“Protect the General!”
Colin, Ava, the Elite Eight, and the Dragonfury Special Forces surged forward to surround Nathan.
Amidst the commotion, Santiago and Phoebe left the scene with their men.
Nathan struggled to get up and jumped down with Penny in his embrace.
Concerned, his subordinates came to him. “General, are you alright?”
Nathan handed Penny to Ava carefully. “Hurry.
Send Penny to the hospital now!”
“Yes, Sir!”
Penny was rushed to the hospital, while Nathan followed closely behind her.
When Penny was wheeled into the ER, he waited outside with a worried expression.
Before long, Benson, Leah, and Kylie, who had just regained consciousness, arrived. Even Seanand his family came after receiving the news.
They were drowning in worry and anxiety outside the ER.
Noticing Nathan's shirt was tattered and stained with blood, Leah wiped her tears off and told him.“Nathan, you're hurt. Let the doctor look at your wound.”
The doctor and nurse waiting aside chimed in. “Yes, Mr. Cross. You were badly wounded. Why don'tyou allow us to check and treat your wound?”
Nathan shook his head. “No, I will stay here and wait for Penny.”
Silence ensued.
Everyone knew how important she was to him.
The doctor hesitated. “I can treat your wound briefly here.”
“I'm not in the mood,” replied Nathan coolly. “My wound is fine. Just keep quiet and stop annoyingme.”
“Alright.” The doctor left with the nurses.
An hour later, the door to the ER opened. A female doctor stepped out with the nurses.
Nathan and the others rushed up to her. “Doctor, how is my wife?” he inquired nervously.
The doctor told him, “Your wife nearly suffocated from inhaling excessive smoke. Besides, she fellfrom a high altitude alongside you. You may have protected her, but she suffered from a concussionnonetheless. After receiving treatment, her life is no longer in danger.”
At her answer, Nathan and their family heaved a sigh of relief.
He was about to express his gratitude when the doctor added, “But your wife is only a few monthspregnant. She suffocated and suffered from a concussion, so she might lose her baby.”
Nathan's expression darkened at her words, while Benson and the rest paled instantly.
Nathan urged, “Doctor, please be honest. How is she now?'
“I can't be sure,” she replied. “But things aren't looking up for her. I've tried my best to keep the babyalive, but you best be prepared.”
Nathan answered slowly. “Yes, we understand. Thank you, doctor.”
“Oh,” he continued. “Can I see my wife now?”
The doctor nodded in approval. “You're her husband, so you should accompany her and cheer herup. Please make sure she doesn't suffer from an emotional breakdown.”
“Understood!” responded Nathan.
