Salute To The General -
Chapter 1647
Chapter 1647
Timothy knew that he could not shirk his responsibility when something as grave as that took placeunder his supervision.
Not only would he lose his job this time, he might even be killed.
In a quivering voice, he pleaded, “General, I know there's no way to absolve myself from the blame. However, I sincerely ask you for a chance to redeem my mistake.”
Timothy knew he had screwed up big time.
He needed Nathan to put in some good words for him so that he could be granted a chance toredeem his mistake. Otherwise, he would definitely end up dying.
At first, Nathan was reluctant to accede to his request, considering that Timothy was a man onBoris' side.
Yet, something inspired him to change his mind in the eleventh hour.
Nonchalantly, he asked, “You want a chance to redeem your mistake? Very well, I'll give you that.Make your greatest effort in replaceing out the mastermind behind this ambush. Also, I want to knowhow they sneaked into our country and then into this city. How did they get their hands on so manyweapons in such a heavily guarded city like Brimmopolis? Someone must have been helping them.Find out that person for me.”
The more Timothy listened to Nathan, the more terrified he was, as he realized that the matter wasmuch more complicated than met the eyes.
Generally speaking, mercenaries will replace it hard to sneak their way into Brimmopolis, even if theymanage to make it past the border of the nation.Given that they were such a large army, it wasdifficult to remain
inconspicuous.Brimmopolis has laid down a set of stringent laws to regulate the ownership ofweapons. So, someone must have been helping them to gather the weapons. That person must bean extraordinary one.Other than having a distinguished and powerful background, that person musthave a feud with the General too. Otherwise, the person would have no reason to help a bunch ofpeople who wanted to kill the General.
After doing some analysis, several big shots who did not see eye to eye with Nathan in Brimmopolispopped up in Timothy's mind.
Even Mr. Tucker and Mr. Davier were among the list of possible suspects in his mind.
Looking deeply shaken, he was overwhelmed by how huge this entire matter could be. Goodnessgracious, who could be the culprit? Could it be one of the wealthy families in the city, or could it beMr. Tucker or Mr. Davier?
In his opinion, it would be easier to deal with the matter if the culprit was one of the wealthy familiesin the city. However, it was a whole new ball game if either Mr. Tucker or Mr. Davier was involved. Ifthe matter was a clash between the members of the Cabinet and Nathan, Timothy was sure that hewould be sacrificed if he meddled with it.
Looking at Timothy's anguished expression, Nathan knew what was holding him back.
With a sly smile, he said, “Now that I've offered you the chance, it's your choice whether you want totake it or not. If you are bold enough to do it, I'll inform your superior officer about your intention totake charge of the investigation and nab everyone who's related to the case. If you don't think you'reup for it, I won't say anything to your superior officer and he will be free to punish you in any way helikes. I bet you know very well deep down inside that you are bound to suffer something more thanjust being fired.”
Timothy was on pins and needles. With beads of sweat on his forehead, anxiety was written all overhis face. “General, I..." he hesitated.
“You'd better consider your decision carefully,” Nathan reminded him in a cold voice.
“Either you get to the bottom of this case and redeem yourself, or you bear the responsibility of yourgrave negligence. You will risk having your whole life ruined as you will likely face a sentence of lifeimprisonment.”
Timothy came from a poor family. Through sheer hard work, he managed to come this far tobecome a man with achievements. In other words, he made his family and his hometown proud.
He did not want and could not accept that his life was going to be ruined.
Gritting his teeth, he told Nathan his decision. “General, I'd like the chance to redeem myself. Please believe me that I will get to the bottom of this and arrest everyone related to it.”
Nathan nodded and acknowledged him, “Great then! I will inform your superior officer to let you bein charge of this case. Yet, I must give you a reminder beforehand - since you have decided toinvestigate the matter, I expect you to do a thorough job by providing me with all the availabledetails. If brushing me off with a flippant job is what you have on your mind, don't be surprised if Idecide to get even with you.”
