Salute To The General
Chapter 1889

Chapter 1889

After taking down Apocalypse, Nathan promptly made his way to support Colin and the Elite Eight, who were still fighting in the distance.

With Nathan's surprise attack from behind his enemies and his teamwork with Colin and the Elite Eight, the rest of the Demon Troopers were quickly eliminated.

Mountains of corpses were strewn all over the place, and some of the remaining survivors were all rushing to escape from the scene.

After making sure that everyone was safe and well, Colin heaved a sigh of relief and asked Nathan, "Sir, what should we do now?" Are we going to head back to the city, to the Davier family residence, just like what we did with Boris Tucker?" The members of the Elite Eight asked.

Shaking his head, Nathan said, "That won't do. Clifford is sly as a fox. He will surely cover up this assassination operation. Moreover, he is the Cab secretary now, so it would be difficult to deal with him, not to mention that the Davier family has many private military troops in their hands. We wouldn't want to risk getting ourselves called out for trespassing the Cab secretary's residence."

Nathan sighed and looked at his comrades standing before him. "President Woods has ordered me to return to the North to lead the North Army in tackling the issues with Xyperia. The Davier family has done us wrong, and let us keep that in our heads for now. Once we're done with the pressing duties at hand, we'll get our revenge," he continued.

Colin and the Elite Eight had previously heard about their General being assigned the role of temporary Chief Military Governor in secret.

If their General successfully led the North Army to defeat the Xyperian army on the borders of Xyperia, it would be very likely that he officially became the Chief Military Governor.

By then, their General would be the highest-ranking military officer in the entire country.

His social status would be above all but the President.

If things did turn out that way, seeking revenge on the Davier family would be completely effortless.

At the thought of that, Colin and the Elite Eight replied, "Alright then, we shall teach the Davier family a lesson once our mighty General becomes the official Chief Military Governor!"

While it was not a good time to be seeking revenge on the Davier family, Nathan felt that there was a need to report the incident to President Woods. He gave President Woods a recount of the incident and directly informed him that the attackers belonged to the Davier family.

Garrett Woods was infuriated by the incident. "Clifford has been stepping out of line way too much recently. Does he even know what boundaries he's crossing? Hmph. Does he think that he has become invincible because he is part of the Cab?" he exclaimed.

"Clifford has worked for more than ten years in the Cab, and his underlings are spread out across the various departments. He is also seen as the spokesperson for the wealthy families of the country. His power and influence are not to be reckoned with," Nathan replied.

Garrett knew all too well that laying a finger on the Cab secretary was no easy matter.

If they really wanted to bring Clifford down from grace, they would have to do it with patience, step by step.

Clifford Davier could be compared to an overgrown tree that had spread its branches in a convoluted manner all over the place. Cutting it down would require a well-planned methodology.

If one were to rush into things, even if the tree would eventually fall, its branches would crash into the neighboring houses, leaving them with endless troubles to deal with.

In a low, solemn voice, Garrett agreed with Nathan, "You're right. Now isn't the right time to make a move on him. The most important thing at hand is getting you to be the Chief Military

Governor. Furthermore, the border

dispute in the North with Xyperia has to be dealt with as soon as possible. I will give the Davier family a warning for what they have done, so please focus on your upcoming battle against Xyperia. We have nothing to lose!"

Garrett pressed on, "If we lose this battle, things will not end well for us or our country. And if you were to win, you become the Chief Military Governor, and I'll stand up for you when you take action against the Davier family."

"Yes, President Woods!" Nathan replied.

"I've ordered Will to clean up after you, so don't you worry. Please go on ahead to do the task at hand."

"Yes, sir," Nathan said.

Meanwhile, at the Davier family residence.

In the study room, Clifford's face was grim.

Quent simply stood before him with his head low, with distress spelled all over his face.

"What did you just say? Apocalypse failed the mission?" Clifford growled.

"Yes. According to the surviving members of the Demon Troopers, Apocalypse has been killed, and the Demon Troopers have mostly been wiped out," Quent said in a small voice.

"Enough!" Clifford cut him off angrily.
