Salute To The General -
Chapter 1906
Chapter 1906
At this very moment, Nathan approached the third general in the welcoming troops. Everyone knew of the Three Tigers and Seven Champions from the North Army.
The Three Tigers referred to commanders: Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill, who operated under Nathan's command. Alongside this, the Seven Champions included major generals: Cyril, Orrin, Galen, Atlas, Caius, Myron, and Hadrian.
The man whom Nathan stood before was Cyril, the leader of the Seven Champions.
Cyril was only in his thirties but already held the high rank of major-general.
He had made outstanding achievements in the North Army over the years. If all his medals were pinned to his coat, he would be covered spotless in countless shiny metal disks.
Though he had many honorable achievements, Cyril was an arrogant man.
There were not many whom he deemed worthy in the North Army. It would take more than all three of the Tigers to completely defeat him. The only man who had received his complete respect and admiration was General Nathan.
Cyril became very upset when General Nathan had been dismissed, often complaining how unjust it was.
Thankfully, Fang was appointed as temporary commander-in-chief short after. Cyril was fairly content with Fang's leadership and was willing to obey his orders.
However, that didn't last long when the Chief Military Governor had been appointed out of nowhere.
He remembered how Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill welcomed the new Chief Military Governor, and how they appeared to kiss at his feet- that upset him.
How heartless of them! They did nothing when the General was dismissed. Instead, they abandoned General, who had taken them under his wing, and confided in a stranger. How could they willingly accept this Chief Military Governor who unfairly replaced the General? Did the General not mean anything to these three men?
Cyril felt irritated. He refused to salute the Chief Military Governor before him, nor did Cyril bow or shake hands with him like the Three Tigers did. Cyril's blank gaze stilled on the man, not bothering to express any form of acknowledgment.
Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill couldn't help but share anxious looks at the tense scene.
They knew that Cyril was only resisting the Chief Military Governor because he didn't know that it was the General in disguise.
A good soldier should be able to recognize their general, they thought to themselves.
But Nathan understood why Cyril behaved coldly towards him. After all, he was disguised as someone else.
He just didn't know whether to be upset or laugh at the clueless Cyril. At the same time, he was also touched by Cyril's loyalty.
Hence, Nathan turned a blind eye to Cyril's disrespect, extending a hand towards Cyril instead. "You must be major-general Cyril. Nice to meet you." At this, Cyril broke away from his frozen stance.
He raised his hand to salute and yelled loudly, "Greetings, sir!"
The soldiers around them tensed.
Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill watched helplessly at Nathan, whose hand was still extended. Anger simmered in their chests as they looked over at Cyril who
velmet
deliberately saluted to avoid shaking Nathan's hand.
The Chief Military Governor wants to shake hands with you, kid. How dare you play, dumb at a time like this? Are you really going to leave his outstretched hand hanging? Are you trying to
make a fool out of him?
The soldiers bit at their tongues. They were shocked at Cyril's boldness to mess with the Chief Military Governor.
Everyone's eyes fell on Nathan, thinking that Cyril's military career was surely over. He must have felt furious and humiliated after that stunt Cyril pulled.
But there was only satisfaction surging in Cyril's eyes. That's right, I'm messing with you. And I don't give a damn about how you'll punish me.
Yet, not even Cyril could predict what happened next.
Neither was Nathan embarrassed, nor did he retract his extended hand. In fact, he reached his other arm out and forced Cyril into a handshake.
A forced handshakells that even allowed? That's so assertive!
Everyone's mouths dropped at the Chief Military Governor's retaliation.
Cyril was clearly taken aback, his eyes widened to the sides of his face.
When the Chief Military Governor tried to shake his hand, Cyril had tried to resist. But to his surprise, he couldn't break away from the man's grasp. He gaped as his hand was forced away from his saluting stance, then pressed against the Governor's own palms.
Red-hot humiliation thundered in Cyril.
He had never lost in terms of strength before. In fact, he was considered one of the elites in the North Army.
Yet somehow, his invincible strength turned to ashes before the Chief Military Governor.
That strength... I didn't know he was capable of it. Cyril finally focused his full attention on the man, viewing him in a different light.
