Salute To The General -
Chapter 1949
Chapter 1949
There was another knock on the door and Captain Callan Stone entered.
"What is it?" Franklin frowned.
"Sir, Sherman Goldstein, son of Mighty Rax from Brimmopolis is here in Channing. He is hosting a banquet this afternoon at the Blueside Villa, and has invited all of Channing's elite to attend. You are invited as well."
Sherman Goldsteinl That's who the General was referring to!
"I'm not going!" Franklin said.
Callan was not aware that Sherman was here to kill Nathan. "Sir, he is the son of Mighty Rax. His influence is no laughing matter. If you reject his gesture, it will not go well for you."
"Who does he think he is?" Franklin scoffed. "Even if his father invited me, I would turn him down as well."
Callan was flabbergasted.
Mighty Rax is considered by many to be the unofficial king of Brimmopolis. How dare General Wilson treat him with such hostility?
"I have business to attend to, Franklin," Nathan said as he stood up. "We'll be in touch."
Franklin scrambled to get up. "General, I'll go with you!"
"No need," Nathan replied. "I have my own car. Just remember to look after my family for me."
"Yes sir, I understand." Franklin nodded.
Nathan departed with Captain Dunne.
Franklin paid the bill and led Callan and his men out.
At the parking lot, Callan could not bear it any longer. "General, are you really not attending Sherman's event?" he whispered.
He'd better come up with a good
excuse to explain Franklin's absence, lest he incurs the
displeasure of Mighty Rax. Now that Franklin is aware of Nathan's new position, and Sherman's true motive of coming to Channing, why would he want to get involved?
"I need to attend to the Chief Military Governor," he said carelessly. It was too late before he realized that he had defied Nathan's order of keeping quiet.
Callan was shocked. Is the Chief Military Governor here at Channing to inspect the Channing military district?
Franklin realized that he had not
actually let slip that Nathan was the Chief Military Governor, so he was spared an explanation. "That's all for today, let's head back to camp,” he said evasively.
"Yes, sir!" Callan said.
Franklin's party took several military jeeps.
Callan is Franklin's trusted confidant. Always thinking of the well-being of his commanding officer, he is deeply worried about the impression it will make if he does not show up to Sherman's banquet.
As he was getting into the car, he quietly summoned a soldier and gave instructions. "Go to Blueside Villa and inform Mr. Sherman that General Wilson will not be able to attend his banquet because the Chief Military Governor is in town to inspect the troops and has to be
attended to."
"Yes sir!" The soldier departed.
Blueside Villa is the vacation home of Aron Lauf. It was usually vacant, with only a caretaker to manage its affairs.
However, the villa was filled with a lively crowd today.
Aron accompanied Sherman while he settled in. As soon as he had made himself at home, the invitations were sent out.
Sherman was aware of the influence that Nathan and Penny have in Channing.
To deal with them, he has to first extend his courtesy to the other influential people in town. It is to prevent somebody from interfering when he's about to make a move on them.
The invitations were received graciously and the guests started pouring in.
