Salute To The General -
Chapter 2186
Chapter 2186
The next day, the storm had worn itself out to a bright and sunny day. The fleet had already arrived back at the South. Back on land, Nathan discreetly led Colin and the Elite Eight out of the naval headquarters and headed back to Channing.
Nathan was finally home!
But to his surprise, there was no one there.
He called his mother-in-law, Leah, and learned from her that Penny and Kylie were at work. Meanwhile, Benson had accompanied Queenie to school.
As for Leah herself, she was at the park for her usual walk. It was a newfound habit since her joints had been acting up in her old age. "Nathan," she said excitedly upon learning of his return. "You should have let us know in advance! Wait here. I will do some shopping at the market and come back to cook you your favorite dishes."
Nathan wanted to tell her to take her time, but Leah suddenly yelled in shock, followed by the sound of her falling. The phone hit the ground with a smack.
"Mom, are you alright?" Nathan shouted.
He heard Leah moaning in pain faintly at the other end of the phone. Right then, a child's voice laughed gleefully. "Haha! Beastly old lady, I pushed you down!"
A brat shoved Leah, and she fell!
Nathan was greatly angered.
He called out again, but Leah did not respond. Instantly, his face turned pale. It must have been a heavy fall if she still hasn't managed to pick up her phone after this long.
"My mother-in-law is in trouble," Nathan told Colin. "Please get the car ready. I am heading to the nearby park."
"Yes, sir!" Colin hurriedly complied.
Soon after, they arrived at the park.
A crowd was gathered around a spot, and they were discussing animatedly.
In the middle, Leah sat on the floor and held her left leg. She seemed to be in great pain.
Beside her stood a stout woman, with a boy about eight or nine next to her.
At the same time, a female employee of the park was interrogating the stout woman.
"My son has already apologized," she yelled at the park employee. "What else do you want him to do?"
"I just want to understand the situation..." the employee replied.
"What is there to understand? She was exercising over there. It just so happened that my son nudged her, and she fell. It's her own fault for not standing firm! And you're trying to blame my son for it?"
"But what we saw is different," the
employee frowned. "He ran over and tackled her like he's Superman. Then, she fell hard because a child ran futhforce at her. I've just examined this lady, and it looks like she has a fracture..."
Smack!
Before she finished her sentence, the stout woman slapped her hard across the face.
This employee was Liliana Lang. She looked about thirty and was dressed modestly in her uniform. She clutched her cheek, stunned. Tears ran down her eyes as she cried angrily, "How could you assault me?"
However, the stout woman stood over her with a grim look on her face. Her lipstick that painted over her large rubbery lips shone like blood. They parted as she laughed cruelly. "Only meddlesome b*tches like you deserves to get slapped. Are you in league with this old b*tch to stage an injury?
"Besides, do you know who I am? My husband is the head of the Park Maintenance Department -Shangley Shulz.
"It's not just this park, but all the parks in the Channing area are under his jurisdiction.
"You'd better believe me because I'll make sure that today is your last day here. You and this old b*tch are not going to get away this easily." Liliana turned pale at her words.
Still on the ground, Leah clenched her teeth at the pain. She fought down her tears and was about to tell Liliana to let it go as she didn't want her to lose her job for Leah.
But at this moment, a cold voice rang out. "I don't believe you."
To Mrs. Shulz's astonished eyes, a tall and strapping man emerged, followed by a large and burly man.
It was Nathan and Colin.
Nathan's eyes flashed with violence
at the sight of his mother-in-law struggling to stand. He turned to address Mrs. Shulz. "You are arrogant bullies. Not only did you shove my mother into the ground and hurt her, but you also assaulted anemployee of the park who was just standing up for her.
"Tell me... who was the one who gave you the audacity to behave so brazenly in public."
