Salute To The General
Chapter 2413

Cayden was furious.

His subordinates, including the Four Combat Kings, had been wounded.

Many of his men were hospitalized as well, and they owe it all to Nathan.

Worse still, the legendary assassin, Hellish Assassin, whom Leroy had spent a huge effort in recruiting, had failed to kill Nathan.

The thing that truly pissed Cayden off, however, was the fact that he couldn't meet the Chief Military Governor even though he had dropped by the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor twice.

That day was the third time Cayden asked to meet the Chief Military Governor.

Inside the guest room.

Cayden had a grey suit on and was sitting upright in his seat while having his eyes closed.

Leroy stood respectfully at the side.

Then, all they heard was a series of footsteps before they saw a middle-aged man in a military outfit entering the room. That man was none other than Sage Tomlinson, the office manager at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor. Cayden opened his eyes as soon as Sage opened the door.

The latter saluted the former before informing, "I am so sorry, General Quillen, but the Chief Military Governor is in a meeting. Perhaps you'd like to drop by some other time?"

Leroy was enraged when he heard that response.

What the hell? My brother is about to be promoted and become the Assistant the Chief Military Governor! I can't believe the guy is keeping us waiting. This has got to be his way of making fun of my brother.

Cayden remained unmoved, though. He simply shot a look at Sage before calmly replying, "There is no need for that. I can wait until his meeting is over."

Sage nodded. "Okay, then."

After saying that, he asked the servers to replenish Layden's tea before leaving the place politely.

The server left as well after refilling the cup with the tea.

Hence, Cayden and Leroy became the only ones left in that spacious room.

Leroy couldn't remain patient, so he complained, "Cayden, do you think the Chief Military Governor is deliberately acting like a divo? Perhaps he is upset with how the higher-ups promoted you as the Assistant the Chief Military Governor. He must be worried about you taking his power, and that is probably why he's making things difficult for us now."

Cayden had the same thought, but he still reprimanded his brother. "Shut up. Do not say bullsh*ts like that."

Leroy clamped his mouth shut. He no longer dared to make any assumptions.

Layden closed his eyes once more.

Time trickled by. There were many moments when Leroy almost lost his temper, but he managed to hold it in at the last second.

Layden kept his eyes closed the entire time, so there was no saying if he was waiting patiently or if he had fallen asleep.

Before anyone knew it, three hours had passed.

A series of footsteps came from behind the door once more. The footsteps of the person leading the team echoed with power. It was clear that the guy was a murderer who killed without remorse. Layden couldn't help opening his eyes.

Soon, he saw a burly man in a phoenix military coat and a Leviathan mask. The man led his team and walked calmly as he entered the room. It was obvious that the guy was the Chief Military Governor. Cayden saw how the Chief Military Governor was wearing a quality military coat and a Leviathan mask that demanded respect and power. The former couldn't help but feel a little envious of it. My gosh, that is so incredible'.

Fleeting envy flashed past Layden's eyes.

He stood up soon after and went to greet the Chief Military Governor with Leroy. Cayden had a smile the entire time and saluted the Chief Military Governor.

Nathan saw how polite the guy was, so he responded equally politely by saluting Cayden back.

"Sorry for the long wait, Mr. Quillen."

Nathan met Cayden for the first time at the airport, and the former greeted the latter as General Quillen. Their subsequent meeting had prompted Nathan to change that greeting. Cayden noticed that change as well.

Huh... the Chief Military Governor has changed his attitude towards me...

Cayden then assumed the change in attitude was simply because the Chief Military Governor was upset with how he was about to be promoted to Assistant the Chief Military Governor.

As a result, he didn't care too much about it.

Cayden never even suspected that the change in attitude was because the Chief Military Governor suspected Cayden of being a spy.

He certainly never thought that the Chief Military Governor standing right in front of him was the same Nathan Cross he had been trying to kill.

Cayden grinned and informed, "Oh, I didn't have to wait for too long, the Chief Military Governor. The tea you serve here is incredible. My brother and I drank away, and before we knew it, you're already here." Nathan knew what Layden was implying, though. The latter was basically protesting that they haddowned several pots of teas while waiting for him.

Nathan grinned and gestured for Layden to take a seat. In a calm tone, he said, "I'm guessing you have an urgent matter to discuss, Mr. Quillen. Take a seat and let's talk."
