Salute To The General -
Chapter 2446
"Nathan, what a coincidence!" he sneered. "You told me that you would give me an answer almost a week ago. Why haven't you set a location yet? Are you afraid to fight me?" Layden's family and many of his followers in the vicinity glared at Nathan with the same disdainful look their leader wore.
"I had originally planned to send a man to inform you tonight," Nathan replied flatly. "But since you are in such a hurry, I might as well spare you the suspense of waiting. I will decide on a location tomorrow. You will be the first one to be informed once I do." "I have better things to do than to wait around for your answer tomorrow," Layden snorted. "As you may have heard, I will be reporting to the military headquarters to assume the post of Assistant Chief Military Governor tomorrow. Would you still have the balls to lay a finger on me when I assume office?"
Cayden's entourage laughed loudly.
Nathan remained impassive as he glanced at the temple behind Cayden. "You will replace out tomorrow. You know what you did, old man. No amount of prayer can save you now. It's better to ask me for forgiveness instead. Pray for the decent ending you don't deserve." Ask him for forgiveness? He's insane.
Nathan's words caused a bristle amongst the ranks of Layden's followers. However, they had an electrifying effect on the man himself.
What does Nathan know?
Layden's murderous intent grew with the sense of unease in his heart. "Enjoy your insolence for now," he said coldly. "After all, it's the most a washed-up has been like you are capable of."
Nathan said nothing in response.
Instead, he turned and left with Colin.
Early on the following day, Cayden officially reported to the military headquarters to be sworn into office as the Assistant Chief Military Governor.
The Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor was unusually lively that day.
Among those present were Elijah, commander-in-chief of the East Army, Lucas, commander-in-chief of the West Army, Zach, commander-in-chief of the South Army, Fang, commander-in-chief of the North Army, Will, commander-in-chief of the Capital Garrison, and other important figures within the military.
Even the generals who were the mainstay of the other military regions attended the inauguration.
The secretary of the Cabinet, the Great Cabinet, as well as all twentyeight ministers were also in attendance.
The two thousand elite of the Felidae Battalion, armed to the teeth with live ammunition, were stationed around the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor for security duty.
As if the first layer of security was not enough, a larger number of troops of the Capital Garrison stood guard on the streets as the entire city was under martial law for the occasion.
Cayden's impeccable dressing was reflective of his high spirits that day. Clad in military uniform that had been ironed and buttoned with utmost precision, he appeared at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor at nine o'clock sharp flanked by a group of henchmen masquerading as officers. "Congratulations, General Quillen!" the crowd cheered as he passed.
Savoring the spring breeze on his face the moment he got off the car, Cayden waved merrily to the citizens of the city who had come to greet him on the most auspicious day of his career. However, their behavior puzzled him.
Although the big shots welcomed me with open arms, no one seems willing to come closer. What does this mean? Could the imminent appointment as the Assistant Chief Military Governor have frightened them into keeping a respectful distance between their superior? That must be it.
Just when he became complacent, he heard a sudden clamor of shouts. "The Chief Military Governor is here!
The president is here!"
Immediately after, he saw Garrett in a gray jacket, and the Chief Military Governor in his phoenix military coat and Leviathan mask. Flanked by an army, they made for the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor.
Cayden's eyes shone with envy as he studied the battle robe on the Chief Military Governor and the tunic suit on Garrett.
Dismissing the greed in his eyes, he resumed his gentlemanly appearance as he strode quicker in his haste to greet Garrett and the Chief Military
Governor.
Garrett gave the Chief Military Governor a meaningful look. "Let's head into the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor instead of standing around here."
