Salute To The General -
Chapter 2497
Having witnessed Destroyer's defeat of three of their own, the nerves of the Nine-Nation Alliance slowly but surely became untethered. Many from among the members of the alliance then variously stepped forth to challenge Destroyer.
After twelve fighters from the opposite camp fell to Destroyer in a row, Fang and Heptakill, too, joined the fray. They decided to fight alongside Destroyer amidst concern that Destroyer might slip up. With the downing of three more fearsome fighters by Fang and Heptakill, a total of thirty over fighters from the Nine-Nation Alliance had already been taken out on the trot before anyone realized. At that time, even Max, Isaiah, Kenshun Aoki, among others, became extremely unsettled.
If unable to respond convincingly, we, the Nine-Nation Alliance, could replace ourselves turned into a laughing stock, and with that, who would dare to rally around us to besiege Eurasia from there on out?
Just when Isaiah and the others were preparing to join the fight themselves, Colin, too, came close to whisper into Nathan's ear, "The Volk army had amassed their forces and are currently on their way here, Chief Military Governor. Instructions have come from above for us to wrap this up promptly. We are to at least capture the representatives of the Nine-Nations as hostages in order to ensure our own safe passage from Volk back to Eurasia."
With a raised hand, Nathan signaled that he had understood the message.
At this moment, the representative of Xyperia, Ashuras, was already beyond enraged. "How dare the three of you clowns monkey around before Ashuras. I shall personally claim your wretched lives for myself."
"Why trouble yourself just to cull three dogs, Lord Ashuras? Such a task would be better left to me," said Jetroina's commander Kenshun.
Isaiah, too, stepped forward. "There's no need for any of you to squabble over this. This is Volk's territory, and as master of this land, I cannot allow them to demonstrate such impudence before me. Do allow me to slay them."
"Since the kids have already played enough, is it not time now for the big boys to have our fun?" said Nathan staidly. "With the responsibility of bringing the bodies of my fallen brethren home upon my shoulders, I have no desire to continue dawdling here. So come! Let us end this!
As Nathan spoke, he made his way steadily to the center of the battlefield with his sword by his side.
Fang and Heptakill restrained themselves, quietly pulling back when they saw their Chief Military Governor stepping into the fray himself. They then took their own places alongside the other warriors of Eurasia to cheer their leader on. With eyes narrowed, Max regarded Nathan. "Haha. Finally itching for a fight now, aren't you?"
"I hate wasting my time on those wastrels of yours who are simply no match for my subordinates. Consider that I'm doing your men a favor so that they do not have to end up throwing their lives away for nothing."
"Although my subordinates have lost many rounds, we need only to win one. Victory shall be ours this day so long as we are able to lop off your head," Max retorted.
"Is that so?" replied Nathan with a smile. "Then what are you waiting for? Come at me now, all at once."
All at once?
Even if Nathan did not mind it, the representatives of the various member nations of the alliance were still mindful of their own reputations.
Apart from Eagleland's noblewoman, Catherine, the rest of them were renowned God of Wars who had earned their stripes on the battlefield.
Which one among them would be willing to set aside their own pride and gang up on the Chief Military Governor of Eurasia? There would surely leave them with nothing to brag about back home even if they were to return home victorious.
Besides, in Max, Isaiah, and the others' esteem, there was only one competent fighter in Eurasia, and that was Nathan Cross, the God of War of the North. Without first testing his mettle, how could we know how powerful the mighty and mysterious Chief Military Governor actually is? In that case, why would we choose to attack him as a group? Who is to say that he could not be bested by one of us in single combat?
None of them wanted to join forces against the Chief Military Governor, as each and every one of them coveted the honor of killing him themselves. Hence, all of them broke into an argument there and then.
In the end, it was Ashuras, Xyperia's newly minted God of War, who secured first dibs.
Brandishing his scimitar, Ashuras strode forth with murderous intent. "You are the descendant of the Dragon, Chief Military Governor, and I, of the Elephant. Today, we shall put ourselves to a trial and see which one of our lineages could earn the right to claim supremacy over the other."
