Salute To The General -
Chapter 3068
Hepburn's expression looked pinched, and she sighed pensively. "I can't change the Curia's decision."
"The dark clans will surely go after Mr. Cross' daughter after she is crowned as the future Holy Maiden, attempting to kill her, consume her blood, or even use her in evil rituals." "Let's hope he will keep his daughter safe."
"Don't worry, Holy Maiden. Mr. Cross is the chosen one and the God of War. He will protect Queenie," replied Milo. "The Curia considers it our obligation to try our best to protect the future Holy Maiden as well." Hepburn used to be a devout disciple of the Curia, but now she felt disgusted.
The Curia coveted Nathan's power and tried to intertwine their interests with his by bestowing Queenie the title of the future Holy Maiden.
The title came with the risk of constantly being an assassination target, putting Queenie in danger anytime.
The Curia, on the other hand, righteously claimed that it was their sacred duty to protect Queenie.
As the current Holy Maiden of the Curia, she felt her gorge rising.
Milo was right.
Eugene IV did send someone to take over Hepburn's unfinished tasks.
Hepburn's private jet had left Eurasia not long before another plane belonging to the Curia touched down in an airport at Channing.
A middle-aged woman with short auburn hair stalked out of the plane, accompanied by several subordinates.
She was the most renowned cardinal among hundreds of cardinals in the Curia, known as Laura, the Killer Cardinal.
Laura had an iron-willed character and was merciless toward dark clans. She was willing to sacrifice everything to fight them, believing that it was worthwhile to do so at any cost. Thus, her vehemence and cruelty earned her the moniker of Killer Cardinal.
She was wearing a trench coat, the ends of her hair curling around like stringy snakes, giving her an aggressive appearance.
"So this is Channing? Mr. Cross' hometown?"
One of the Holy Knights answered, "Yes, Cardinal Laura."
"If that's the case, let's head to his home. I want to personally meet him and break the congratulatory news that his daughter is the future Holy Maiden," she stated idly.
The subordinates each wore different expression on their faces.
Someone blurted, "Cardinal Laura, I'm afraid Mr. Cross wouldn't be thrilled at the news, given that the Eurasians aren't fond of the Curia. Perhaps he would object to his daughter being the future Holy Maiden."
"I came to inform him of the good news, but it's not his decision whether or not his daughter is the future Holy Maiden. That is up to the Curia," Laura countered haughtily. "If the Curia says her daughter is the future Holy Maiden, then that's the end of the matter." The subordinates knew they couldn't argue against her, so they tactfully stayed quiet.
However, they had heard of Nathan's similarly unbending personality and were worried that his first encounter with Laura would lead to an altercation.
Meanwhile, at Riverside Garden, Nathan had just finished lunch with his family and was watching TV in the living room with them when Colin entered at a brisk pace.
Nathan furrowed his brows. "What is it? Did something happen?"
"Mr. Cross, the Curia has sent someone to meet you," replied Colin.
"Why did they do that when we have just sent their Holy Maiden away? This is ridiculous." Nathan was irritated.
"This time, it's the esteemed Cardinal Laura from the Curia, also known as the Killer Cardinal," Colin revealed.
"She requested to meet with you but didn't state her intentions."
Nathan was displeased that the members of the Curia had once again interrupted his day off.
He assumed they were here to discuss how they should deal with Max and gain an explanation from the Ariaricans, so he said, "Let her in. I'm curious what she has to say after traveling all the way here to meet with me." "Yes, sir," Colin responded.
