Salute To The General
Chapter 3090

Arlo gasped in shock when he heard that.

As he made eye contact with Nathan, his mind went blank, and his body was frozen in place.

The sounds around him seemed to get farther and farther away, and his vision got increasingly blurry as well.

The next thing he knew, he was standing on a river bank with lots of bright red flowers.

Huh? Where am I? What is this place?

As he glanced about, he saw a stone next to the river with the words "Stone of Lives" written on it.

That was when Arlo finally understood what was going on. The river was actually Styx, and the red flowers by the road were red spider lilies-the road he stood on was the road to the afterlife. Suddenly, Arlo felt his heart skip a beat as the illusion around him disappeared completely.

All he saw was the bright light from Nathan's sword coming down on his head.

As much as Arlo wanted to block or dodge it, he knew it was far too late to do so.

Realizing that there was nothing he could do, Arlo closed his eyes in despair and accepted his fate.

A few seconds soon went by, but Arlo had yet to be struck by Nathan's sword.

He opened his eyes in confusion, only to see that Nathan's blade had stopped a centimeter away from his forehead.

"It looks like my Blade of Seasons is better than your Absolute Judgement. You've lost this battle!" Nathan said coldly as he sheathed his sword and walked right past Arlo.

Still in disbelief, Arlo turned around and asked, "Hey! Why didn't you finish me off?"

Nathan paused in his tracks and said without looking back, "Why should I?"

Arlo's eyes went wide when he heard that.

He's right! All he had to do was defeat me in a fight! There was no reason for him to kill me at all! I showed him no mercy when I used Absolute Judgement on him, though. He would've at least been severely wounded if he hadn't blocked my attack in time! Even so, he chose to spare my life when he clearly had the upper hand in our battle...

Arlo felt incredibly ashamed of himself at the thought of that. He bowed at Nathan and said sincerely, "Your level of honor and swordsmanship far exceeds mine, Mr. Cross. I humbly accept my defeat."

Only then did everyone snap out of their dazed state.

Colin, Ava, and the Elite Eight all had proud smiles on their faces.

The members of the Curia, however, did not take too kindly to the sudden turn of events.

Daveth had gone silent in shock and disbelief. I didn't know Nathan was this powerful! I guess my defeat at his hands was completely justifiable, then.

Milo had fear and anger written all over his face.

Nathan has made it past the second level! If he gets through the third and kills Pope Eugene, the Curia will be dishonored forever! However, he now has to face Baccio, the leader of the Ten Elders! As powerful as Nathan may be, there's no way he can defeat Baccio! Feeling a lot better at the thought of that, Milo ran up to Nathan and shouted with a gleeful smile, "Defeating Arlo was a very impressive feat, Nathan, but your luck has run out! The third person you have to face is the head of the Ten Elders, Baccio! I don't care how powerful and talented you are in combat. There's no way you'll ever be able to defeat Baccio!"

Meanwhile, Eugene IV was seated on his throne when his subordinate came in and reported the situation.

He was shocked when he heard about Nathan defeating Arlo, the Sword Saint of the ten Holy Guardians.

Those in the room with him were equally shocked as well.

Eugene IV turned toward Baccio and said solemnly, "Baccio, Nathan has made it past two levels in a row. It's all up to you now."

"Rest assured that I will defeat Nathan and have him flee with his tail between his legs," Baccio replied calmly.
