Salute To The General
Chapter 3329 Seeing The Daylight Again

In a daze, Nathan had no idea how long he had been asleep. Suddenly, he heard the crisp chirping of birds near his ear, and his eyes opened immediately. Upon opening his eyes, he found the light to be exceptionally glaring. After much difficulty, he gradually adapted to it. It was then that he only realized he was lying in a ward. To his delight, the sun shone brightly outside the window, and two sparrows were perched on a tree branch, chirping incessantly.

Has Eternal Darkness passed, and the light fell again?

Nathan quickly sat up from the bed and walked to the window with his patient's gown on. Gazing at the long-lost sunlight, his heart was filled with joy as he muttered to himself, "Indeed, Dark Canopy is finally over. The earth can finally see daylight again. That's wonderful." After saying that, he only remembered the reason for his injury, and his expression darkened instantly. He hurried to the mirror and began examining his body.

In the mirror, it was still the familiar self. However, there was also a hint of unfamiliarity, as if something was different somewhere. He hurriedly checked his teeth and found no vampire fangs. Then he looked at his eyes, which were not the crimson red of a vampire either. I clearly remember that before I passed out, that jerk Gregg injected a drop of ancestral blood into my body, causing me to be poisoned by the blood virus. Why is it that I haven't turned into a vampire like Sevan? Could it be that the doctors successfully removed the blood virus from my body when I was unconscious?

Nathan carefully examined himself in the mirror, trying to replace a clue. At last, he discovered why he felt both familiar and unfamiliar with his reflection in the mirror.

It turned out that his skin had become fairer than before. Throughout his many years in the military, he had always been in healthy tanned skin. However, his complexion had become much fairer, and he seemed to look even more handsome. Although Nathan did not like the phrase "handsome," he indeed appeared somewhat more handsome while looking at himself in the mirror at the moment.

What's going on?

Just as Nathan felt extremely puzzled, footsteps could be heard coming from the corridor outside the ward. He could also hear someone talking, and it was Colin's voice. It seemed Colin was rebuking the doctor as he said, "You've said several times that Chief Cross' condition has returned to normal and that he could gain consciousness at any moment. But now it's been a full week, a whole week already. He remains unconscious."

He added, "Back in the country, Mrs. Cross and Mr. Lucas from Cabinet and several generals from the military department call daily to inquire about Chief Cross' condition. I've been keeping from Mrs. Cross, telling her that President Cross is fine and will contact them whenever he's free. I can hardly keep up the deception any longer. I really don't know how to explain it to her. If you can't make Chief Cross gain consciousness, you'll have to face the questioning from Mrs. Cross and the generals yourself."

At the end of Colin's speech, his emotions unexpectedly went out of control due to seemingly excessive worry about Nathan's situation. His voice even contained a choking sound. The doctor replied submissively, "General Dunne, after my treatment and proper handling, Mr. Cross' condition has indeed returned to that of an ordinary person. I had concealed all those characteristics of the vampire in him. Logically speaking, he should have gained consciousness by now.

I'm puzzled as to why he hasn't as well. How about this? Let's give him another blood transfusion by using the blood of King-Class vampires we've secretly collected!" Colin seemed quite frustrated and retorted, "I'm curious if you're a quack. However, if you can't cure Chief Cross, I'll shoot you first and next commit suicide out of guilt."

As he spoke, he pushed the door open and entered. As soon as he entered the ward, his eyes widened. He stared at Nathan, who was looking at himself in the mirror, and exclaimed, "Chief Cross, you're finally awake."

Nathan turned around and looked at Colin, the old doctor who saved his life, and a few Elite Eight with a smile. He said, "Colin, you're talkative again."

Colin was so happy that tears welled up in his eyes. "Chief Cross, you're really awake! Thank goodness!" Although Elite Eight remained silent, their faces were filled with agitation. That old doctor's expression brightened, and he said proudly, "As expected, I told you my method would work."

Nathan's gaze landed on the old doctor, and he asked curiously, "Colin, who is this elderly gentleman?" Colin answered, "This is the world-famous traditional healer, Novem Carden. After you fell unconscious, I sought many trustworthy doctors to treat you, but those fellows were powerless. In perfect timing, he came forward to offer his services." Nathan slightly furrowed his brows.

You allow someone to cure me when they offer their services. Are you trying to apply desperate remedies to me?

It seemed that Colin had discerned Nathan's thoughts.

He whispered, "Although this person has recommended himself, he privately revealed to me the main reason for your injury and unconsciousness. He said that you were poisoned by the vampire's blood virus. Moreover, I really had no other choice, so I just let him give it a shot."
