Salute To The General
Chapter 3488 As You Wish

"Why should I have to prove anything to you if I don't intend to be the commander-in-chief?" Nathan said coldly. "What kind of attitude is this?"

"We are doing this with a most serious attitude, constantly in consideration for the best interests of humanity," Eugene IV said calmly. "Try and look at this objectively: everyone out there is saying you're one of the vampires. Even if you don't become the commander-in- chief of the alliance, you're still a person of great importance within it. The most powerful God of War of mankind. Being such a pivotal figure, do you think we would be at ease if you turn out to be a vampire?"

Nathan stared at Eugene IV. "It seems to me that I'm going to have to prove my identity today, one way or another," he said indifferently.

"Please try and understand, Mr. Cross," Eugene IV said. "If you persist in refusing to prove your innocence, it will only backfire and deepen our suspicions about you. Once you've proven your innocence, we can elect you as the commander-in-chief of the Earth Alliance. Together, we can face the dangers and protect our planet. What do you say?"

Nathan turned to Wolfric and Leopold. "Do all of you feel the same way?" he asked them.

Wolfric braced himself. "Yes. If you can prove that you're not a vampire, we'll elect you as the first commander of the alliance, Mr. Cross. It's hard for us to trust you if you can't prove your innocence!"

Eiken and Tyrell, among others, voiced their opinions in quick succession.

Nathan turned to look at Leopold again.

Feeling a little embarrassed, Leopold did not dare meet Nathan's gaze. He lowered his head and said softly, "Since you are a human, Mr. Cross, why not prove your innocence? When the time comes, everyone will recommend you as the commander-in-chief. Wouldn't that be great?"

The Gods of War behind Leopold all nodded in agreement. "Exactly!"

"Since you are being this insistent," Nathan said calmly. "I'm afraid I have no choice but to comply with your wishes. But how can I prove that I'm human and not a vampire?"

No sooner were the words out of his mouth than Eugene IV stepped forward. "That's easy," he said, his expression a mix of seriousness and amusement. "We in the church have a type of water called the Tear of God. Normal people can drink it without any problems. However, if a vampire were to drink it, the lower-ranking ones would explode and die, while the higher-ranking ones would reveal their combat forms, thus exposing their true nature. If you would consent to take a sip of the Tear of God, Mr. Cross, we will quickly be able to determine whether or not you are one of the vampires."

Then, as if performing a magic trick, he produced a crystal bottle out of nowhere.

Contained within it was crystal clear water.

Before Nathan could speak, Colin, who was standing behind him, said angrily, "How do we know if your water is clean, sanitary, or even safe to drink? You take the first sip!"

Eugene IV did not even feel abashed by the remark. He nodded in agreement, then twisted open the cap, tilted his head back, and poured some of the liquid into his mouth, swallowing it in full view of everybody present.

After he drank it, nothing happened.

"It's your turn, Nathan!"

Eugene IV abruptly handed the crystal bottle to Nathan.

Nathan frowned imperceptibly.

He had once drank the Tear of God.

Hepburn had secretly added it to his bottled water. Not long after ingesting it, his vampire's combat form was inadvertently revealed.

Now that he had been injected with the advanced serum for some time, he could feel himself returning to a normal human state. However, he was not entirely sure.

He felt a little nervous about drinking the Tear of God.

Suddenly, Colin stepped forward.

With a cold scoff, he took the crystal bottle. It's not enough that you had some. Let me have a sip, and then we'll talk about whether it's poisoned or not."

After Colin finished speaking, he tried to drain the Tear of God in one gulp in order to help Nathan out of his predicament.

However, Nathan stopped him. "The

Pope would never stoop so low as to poison us in public, Colin," he said coolly. "You don't have to test it. Give me the Tear of God. I'll take a sip for them."

Colin hesitated. "Mr. Cross?"

"Give it to me!" Nathan repeated coldly.

At a loss, Colin was forced to hand the crystal bottle over.

With the crystal bottle now in hand, Nathan gave Eugene IV and the others a glare. "Get ready to fulfill your promise and welcome your new commander-in-chief," he said. Without another word, Nathan tilted his head back and took a hearty gulp of the Tear of God.

Eugene IV tensed up. His gaze was fixed intently on Nathan.

Wolfric and the others held their breath, remaining motionless ase they watched Nathan. They were curious to see if there would be any changes after he ingested the Tear of God.
