Chapter 36

Chapter 36 – One Last Time (Sky‘s POV)

“That girl really messed up with your brain, huh?” Dad smiled as I asked Frank to stop the car on HeavenAvenue for the last time. “What if she doesn‘t exist?”

It had been two months, and I was like a lunatic still looking for her, yet I could not replace her. What is thejustification of heaven for making such a big joke? I asked for a miracle, not an ugly duckling who hid hertrue beauty and left a curse in my life like I could not give my whole heart to the woman I had beenchasing for a long time.

Lalaine and I spent a great week in the Caribbean. Still, every time I kissed her, I would remember themysterious young woman I was with that night at the party, the angel I married, and a teenager whoadmitted and slammed the truth into my face that our marriage was never binding.

“I can‘t forgive her, Dad. No one messes with the Mighty Sky,” I gritted my teeth in anger and great painhidden in my heart. “Angels can,” Olivia giggled as she pressed her forehead on the window. “Oh!Elenita, look! A wedding!” She beamed excitedly.

Frank has to slow down the car because the bride and groom had just gone out of the church door, andtheir guests crowded the entrance. I scoffed, sneering at the happy scene outside but lookinginterestingly at the family and friends crowding the newlywed couple.

“Daddy, can you buy me a dress like that?” Olivia turned to our father, pointing at the beautiful weddinggown the bride was wearing.

Dad smiled sadly at her. “Of course, baby. Daddy would love to see you wearing that dress someday.”

Her round eyes blinked in excitement, but when my eyes met with Elenita, she avoided my gaze. We allknow that medical treatment now can prolong Dad‘s life, but unless we replace a cure for cancer, he may notbe there at Olivia‘s wedding. When he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, our hopes were high that he

could live longer like those we knew who had it, but his case was already in stage 3. Although we hadthe resources and the money for his treatment, he knew his time was limited.

“They look very happy,” Dad murmured, still staring at the couple. Frank successfully droves past thecrowd and glances at me quickly. “Where to, Sky?” I groaned, thinking I must have gone crazy. The bridelooked like Angela, but she was not her. I see her in all women that I even kissed a deaf universitystudent two months ago, thinking it was her after she asked for a kiss for her birthday.

“To the airport.” I heaved a deep sigh as I said my decision. We will be staying in the US for a while for anew project expansion I have and for Dad to focus on his treatment. “What about Finn?” Elenita suddenlyblurted out the question, causing Dad to look at me. “You know that he doesn’t talk to me, Elenita, butFrank will be following us,” I turned to my loyal driver, who accepted my offer to be my personal secretaryafter his graduation.

I don‘t want to bother Catherine following me around in any countries I go to, and she is thankful for mydecision because she wants more time for her family.

“Make sure to bring Finn with you, Frank,” I told him as if reminding him not to forget a thing, not aperson who could decide for himself whether he would want to go or not.

Frank was about to steer the car away from Heaven Avenue when he slowed down again after hearingme clear my throat. He glanced at me, waiting for me to say something. I took a deep breath as I lookedoutside the street, seeing two teenagers laughing while walking on the pavement. “Are you sure you metall the Angelas working in this area?” “Yep,” he answered as he continued driving. “I even met girls withnames Angelica, Angelou, Angel – ”

“Just a yes or no, Frank,” I said impatiently, cutting him. “He was just being thorough,” Dad chuckled, andI hated that he was replaceing humor in my situation now.

Frank hit the brake to stop at the pedestrian lane, and we all stared at the pregnant woman crossing thestreet. I sighed as she nodded, smiling apologetically at us as she crossed. “She must be giving birthanytime soon,” Elenita said, guessing from the roundness of her belly as we all watched her touching hertummy as she walked.

Frank drives again and glances at me like he wants to ask a question, but he knows he can‘t do itwithout me permitting him to say his opinion.

“Say it, Frank,” I said while my eyes focused on the tablet to read the report Catherine had just sent inmy email.

He cleared his throat. “I‘m sorry, Sky, but I can‘t help thinking, what if she gets pregnant?”

My heart stopped beating because I had never thought of it, not until now. I pretended to ignore him, but Icould hardly understand what I was reading now because my thoughts were on the idea that there wasa possibility it could happen. Angela and I never used protection after we jumped at each other‘s bonesfor two nights. “Are you worried she might get pregnant?” Dad glanced at me, but I shook my head.“You‘re the one who told me she‘s not existing,” I said, sighing as I showed him I was focusing on what Iwas reading for him not to bother me anymore. “I said what if, sky. What if she doesn‘t exist, not that shedoesn‘t really exist,” He explained.” Are you even sure you‘re looking for the right name? It might not beher real name,” he continued.

“Or heaven must have really messed up with me, Dad,” I murmured in annoyance, but he onlysmirked at me. “Can angels have babies?” Olivia sat upright as she asked, looking at Elenita, but whenshe ignored her, she pressed her forehead again on the car window. “Oh! There‘s Angela!” She raisedher hand, pointing her finger at the two young women and a man getting into a convenience store. Ihad not caught a glimpse of their faces, but I had enough of her. This is the last time I will look forAngela. And after today, I will forget about her... wishing I could really forget her.
