Saving His Feral Mate -
Chapter 40: Preparing for the meeting
Chloe POV
I woke up feeling well rested, that was probably the best sleep I’ve ever had. I tried to get up, but was completely restricted. I looked down to replace my body wrapped up like a burrito in a tangled mess of arms and legs. That’s when I remember everything that happened the night prior. No wonder I slept so well, Knox spent the night with me. I could totally get use to waking up like this every morning. I thought to myself and smiled.
I could hear his steady breathing and knew he was still peacefully asleep. I tried to gently slip out of his hold, but it was proving to be difficult. Every time I got free from one of his limbs, his others would squeeze me tighter. I couldn’t help but laugh it was actually quite cute. After several attempts, I eventually gave up and the laid there pondering everything that happened.
I had been slightly disappointed when he didn’t want to mate with me last night, but I completely understood his reasoning and respected it. I do think I’m ready for him to claim me, but I guess there’s still that sliver of hesitation in my mind. I don’t even think the hesitant is because of him, but rather my own insecurities. I still feel like I’m constantly looking over my shoulder, worried that Cameron is going to replace me. I wonder if that’s the reason why I’m still not able to fully give myself to Knox? I was brought out of my thoughts when I felt him start to stir.
“Mmmmm… That was the best sleep I’ve ever had.” He said in a sexy, yet raspy voice.
“I thought the same thing when I woke up.” I replied with a chuckle, while trying to turn in his arms so that I could face him.
“How about we sleep like that every night from now on? Why don’t you move into my room?” He suggested before gently kissing my lips. I was a bit surprised by his words, but did like the idea.
“Are you sure you want that? I tend to snore and I can be a bit of a bed hog.” I joked, making him chuckle.
“Trust me, I know you snore. I couldn’t believe how loud you you got, considering how small you are. You even talk in your sleep.” He teased and successfully made me blush.
“That’s a lie! I don’t talk in my sleep.” I replied, pretending to be offended. I wanted to believe he was joking, but what if he was telling the truth? I sure hope I didn’t say anything embarrassing. I thought to myself.
“It was cute and you weren’t really talking, but rather mumbling.” He continued to tease, before kissing my forehead.
“You’re a liar!” I exclaimed, while once again attempting to break free from his hold.
“Can you let go?” I huffed, pretending to be annoyed.
“Never.” He replied and squeezed me tighter, before burying his face in the crook of my neck.
“Fine, but I’m going to pee right here if you don’t.” I warned.
“I’ll let go, but only if you promise to come right back.” He bargained.
“Ok, fine.” I said with a chuckle and he finally released me. I quickly got out of bed and headed towards the ensuite.
“I’m going to be busy for most of the day. Alpha Victor, from the Black Hawk Pack is coming here for a meeting. I’m having lunch with him after, but you don’t have to join us if you don’t want to.” Knox informed me and as soon as he said the name of the pack, I froze in my tracks.
That was the pack that my mother mentioned before she was killed. She wanted us to go there and said that she had a friend in that pack. All of a sudden my curiosity was piqued.
“Is everything ok?” Knox asked sounding concerned, when he noticed how I had suddenly stopped.
“Ya, sorry. I’ve just heard that pack name before. What does the Alpha want?” I asked turning around to look at Knox.
“I’m not exactly sure, he said he wanted to discuss something with me. He use to be an ally of ours, but my father ruined that relationship several years ago. I’m hoping this meeting is an opportunity to mend our alliance. How do you know that pack?” He asked with a curious frown.
“I don’t, but my mother did. That was where she wanted us to go when we attempted to run away from Alpha Cameron. She told me that she had a friend there.” I said truthfully and I saw him looking deep in thought before he spoke again.
“Do you want to join us for lunch? Maybe you could figure out who your mother’s friend was.” Knox asked.
“Yes, I think I do.” I replied, before turning back around and heading into the bathroom.
My mind was mess. I had so many questions, but knew I would likely never get answers for any of them. I wonder who my mother knew from that pack? She never left our territory, how could she have met that person? I knew this lunch would be a long shot, but something was tugging at me to go anyway.
I did my business in the bathroom, before heading back into the room.
Knox was laying on the bed with his hands locked behind his head. As soon as I walked into the room, his eyes met mine. I could see the desire swirling within them and it instantly made me blush. I always found his gaze to be very intense, it made me feel like the most important person in the world.
“Get over here.” He playfully ordered.
“It’s already 9:00am, don’t you have work to do?” I asked, while making my way over the edge of the bed.
“Ya, but it can wait.” He replied and before I could protest, he grabbed my waist and yanked me down on top of him. I yelped in surprise at the sudden action.
“What are you doing?” I questioned, while wiggling in his hold.
“I told you, I want 5 more minutes.” He replied matter of factly.
“You’re impossible.” I joked, but stopped struggling and rested my head on his chest.
If I was being completely honest, I wouldn’t have minded spending the entire day in bed with him. I felt so comfortable and relaxed in his arms.
We laid in comfortable silence for several minutes, before I heard him let out a deep sigh. I lifted my head so that I could look at him.
“What’s wrong?” I asked with a frown.
“Jag just mind-linked me. They’re waiting in my office to go over the plan for this meeting.” He replied sounding irritated.
“Ok, what time do you want me to meet you for lunch?” I asked, while getting off the bed.
“How about you meet us in the dinner hall around 1:30pm? That way the lunch rush will be over and we’ll have the room mostly to ourselves.” He replied, as he also stood from the bed.
I couldn’t help but run my eyes down the length of his body. He was only wearing boxers and looked damn sexy. I subconsciously licked my lips, causing a low growl to leave his throat.
“If you do that again, neither one of us will be leaving this room today.” He warned in a low husky voice, bringing me out of my trance. My eyes met his almost black orbs that were now watching me hungrily.
“Sorry.” I said, but I really wasn’t. I was kinda hoping he’d follow through with his threat.
“Goddess, I don’t want to leave.” He grumbled, before leaning down to k**s me.
“Tonight you’re sleeping in my room.” He stated, leaving no room for me to argue. It’s not like I was going to anyway.
“Ok.” I replied and I saw his eyes light up with excitement.
“Good. I have to go shower and change, I’ll see you at lunch.” He said, before kissing me one last time and leaving the room.
—————
Knox POV
I really didn’t want to leave Chloe, things had really progressed between us and I was getting excited just at the thought. If this meeting wasn’t so important, I think I would have literally stayed in that room all day with her.
I reluctantly headed to my own room and had a quick shower before getting dressed in a pair of black pants and a dark green button up shirt.
Once I was ready, I made my way towards my office. I found Jo, Jag and my father waiting inside. I frowned when I saw my father. I really didn’t want him involved in this meeting.
“Good morning.” I said with a nod, before making my way around the desk and taking a seat.
“It’s a good morning indeed.” Jo replied with a knowing smirk and I decided to ignore his antics.
“Father, what brings you here?” I asked and was unable to hide the annoyance in my tone.
“I heard you’re meeting with Alpha Victor. What exactly is this regarding?” He asked with a disapproving frown.
“I’m not sure, he said he wanted to talk with me in private. To be honest, I’m hoping to rebuild our alliance.” I replied truthfully and shrugged my shoulders.
“He’s a fool son, we don’t need him.” My father stated sounding irritated.
“He’s got one of the biggest and strongest packs, of course we need him. You know as much as I do that there’s a war on the horizon, we need all the support we can get.” I replied sternly. I hated that my fathers pride always got in the way. He was unable to admit his mistakes and that was probably one of his biggest flaws.
“I want to be part of this meeting then.” I father said.
“Absolutely not. You’re the main reason we lost him as a ally in the first place. I’m not willing to jeopardize this meeting by having you present.” I replied firmly. I could see the irritation in my fathers face, but I didn’t care. I wasn’t going to give into him.
“You’re making a big mistake.” My father huffed, before standing from his chair and storming out of the room.
“That went better than I expected.” Jag said with wide eyes, when the door slammed shut.
“No s**t. I thought we were gonna witness a father, son brawl.” Jo replied, making me shake my head. I’m pretty sure violence is the only thing Jo ever thinks about.
“Alright, let’s get down to business, is the kitchen staff aware of our lunch?” I asked Jag.
“Yes, they’re prepping it now.” Jag replied.
“Hold up. Can we talk about something more important first?” Jo asked with a smirk. I knew exactly what he had in mind and I wasn’t about to entertain his curiosity.
“No.” I said shortly.
“You blocked my mind-links all night. Come on, give us something.” Jo hassled.
“You know he won’t stop until you give him something.” Jag remind me with an amused smirk on his face. I let out a defeated sigh, he was right, Jo was probably the most persistent person I knew.
“I hung out with Chloe, but nothing happened.” I replied and glared at Jo, silently warning him to drop it.
“Bullshit!” Jo said, while pretended to cough. Of course he wouldn’t take my warning seriously. The man can be so infuriating sometimes.
Luckily for me, our conversation was interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Come in” I said.
The door opened and one of my warriors walked in.
“Alpha, Alpha Victor and his men are here.” The warrior announced.
“Great, you can bring them to my office.” I replied and the warrior nodded his head, before leaving.
