Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 45: A meeting with the twins

Knox POV

Seeing Chloe breakdown in my arms broke my heart. I can only imagine what was going through her mind. Cameron killed her mother and now this. She was sobbing like I had never heard anyone sob. I wanted so desperately to take her pain away, but couldn’t. All I could do was be here for her.

I knew she was mad at me for not letting her go, but in that moment I didn’t care. I wouldn’t let her go after Cameron, not when she was like this. She was emotional and not thinking straight, she would likely end up dead or worse… The thought alone made me hold onto her tighter.

I didn’t let go of Chloe until her body finally relaxed and she had stopped crying. I noticed her heartbeat and breathing had slowed, which meant that she was asleep. I’m not exactly sure if she had fallen asleep or passed out from the trauma, but either way, I was actually relieved. At least now I can get her back to our room and hopefully when she wakes up she’ll be in a better state of mind.

I scooped her small body up bridal style and headed for the pack house. I saw Max, Jo and the twins standing outside the hospital so I stop to talk with them for a minute.

“Is she ok?” Max asked, the concern was clear in her tone.

“She will be.” I replied with a nod.

“Any update on how Betty and Tom are doing?” I asked.

“Betty will pull through, but Tom we still don’t know. The doctor’s still working on him.” One of the twins replied.

“I’m bringing Chloe back to our room. Jo, make sure to update me as soon as you hear anything more from the doctor.” I ordered.

“Will do.” He replied with a nod.

“Will you guys be sticking around for a while?” I asked the twins.

“If you don’t mind, we’d like to make sure Betty and Tom are ok before leaving.” One of them replied.

“That’s not a problem stay as long as you want. I would actually like to talk with you both once things settle down.” I said.

“Thank you. Go take care of Chloe, we’ll be here for a while.” The other twin replied. I nodded my head before walking away from the group.

Once I reached the pack house, I headed upstairs to our room. I didn’t miss the curious looks from the members of my pack, but I didn’t care. The only thing that was important to me in that moment, was making sure Chloe was ok.

When I reached the bedroom, I quickly pushed the door open and headed straight for the bed. I gently laid Chloe down and took off her shoes, before grabbing the folded duvet and covering her with it.

I sat next to her on the bed and took a few minute to watch her sleep. Her cheeks were stained with tears and her eyes were red and puffy. I also noticed the deep frown on her forehead. My fingers automatically moved to the creases between her brows and I started to gently trace my finger along the lines. My touch seemed to relax her and the frown lessened. As soon as I pulled my hand away, a sad little whimper left her lips.

I wanted to lay down with her, but knew she was still mad at me. I didn’t want her waking up thinking I had taken advantage of her vulnerability state so I decided to settle for the couch. That way I could keep an eye on her, but also give her space.

I must of dozed off, the next thing I remember was waking up to the sound of Chloe screaming. I shot up from the couch in a panic and ran over to the bed. Chloe’s eyes were closed but she was violently shaking her head from side to side.

“Noooo! Please don’t. Punish me instead.” She pleaded and that’s when I realized she was having a nightmare. It angered me how much Cameron had broken her, but I had to set that aside for now. Chloe needed me.

I quickly got on the bed and pulled her against my body.

“Sshhhhh it’s just a dream.” I whispered into her ear, while gently rubbing her arm.

A few more whimpers left her lips, but she eventually settled down. After an hour she seemed to be sleeping peacefully again so I slipped out of bed and went back to the couch.

‘Hey Knox, just got an update from the doctor. Tom is still in critical condition. The doctor has done everything he can, said it’s a waiting game now.’ Jo said through the mind-link.

‘Thanks for the update.’ I replied before cutting the link.

As soon as I did, I heard Chloe start to stir. I watched her carefully from the couch, ready to run over if she was having another nightmare, but it didn’t seem like that.

Her eyes flutter open, before they scanned the room. I remained quiet giving her a chance to process where she was and remember everything that happened. I was a little nervous about how she was going to react.

When her eyes finally landed on me, they were hard for a minute, but eventually softened and I saw regret within them.

“How do you feel?” I asked softly.

“Better, I guess.” She replied in a low voice.

I watched her stand from the bed and for a second I was worried she was going to run again. But to my surprise, she made her way over to where I was laying on the couch.

“I’m sorry.” She whispered, before climbing on top of me and laying her head on my chest.

“You don’t need to apologize, Chloe. But I must admit, I’m extremely relieved that you aren’t mad at me.” I said, while wrapping my arms around her body and kissing the top of her head.

“I shouldn’t have taken it out on you, I was just so anger I couldn’t think straight. He’s already taken so much from me and now…” she started, but trailed off and quickly shot up to look at me.

“Oh my goddess, Tom and Betty, are they ok?” She asked with a concerned frown.

“Betty will be. Tom is still in critical condition. The doctor has done what he can for him, but now it’s up to his body to heal.” I explained and saw the concern in her eyes.

“I want to go see them.” She said softly.

“Sure, I can take you there. But Chloe…” I started and she cut me off.

“I’m not going to leave. I know I can’t take Cameron out on my own.” She said in frustration.

“You will get your revenge, I promise. You just need to be a little patient. I’ll do everything in my power to help you.” I replied truthfully.

“Thank you.” She whispered.

“Ok, let’s go see Betty and Tom.” I offered while standing up.

We left our room and headed to the hospital. Chloe immediately grabbed my hand and linked her fingers with mine as we walked in silence. I could feel that she was still overwhelmed with emotions, but was beyond relieved that she wasn’t shutting me out. I was doing my best to hide my own emotions. Truthfully, I was also struggling to contain my anger, my wolf was growling in my head to be set free. The only reason I was acting so calmly was for her benefit. I could tell she need me to be strong for the both of us right now.

Once we arrive at the hospital, the receptionist brought us to Tom’s room.

I opened the door and saw Tom laying on a hospital bed, with Betty standing beside him fussing over something on his face. The twins were leaning up against one of the walls, while Max and Jo were sitting beside Tom’s bed. There was also another hospital bed in the room, but it was empty.

“Ma’am you need to get back in bed, you need rest.” One of the nurses said to Betty. I could hear the irritation in her tone and knew it probably wasn’t the first time she had asked.

“Like I said the last time you asked, I’ll rest when I’m dead and that’s not today.” Betty snapped back. The nurse let out a frustrated sigh, but clearly accepted defeat and left the room.

“How is he?” Chloe asked, while walking up to Betty and giving her a gentle hug. Betty was covered in bruises and I could see several bandages on different parts of her body.

“He’s not healing very fast. They hope he makes it through the night.” Betty replied sadly. I could see the tears pooling in her eyes.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you. It’s…” Chloe started, but was cut off.

“Dear, there’s no need to apologize, this wasn’t your fault. The only person that’s going to be sorry is that scum, Alpha Cameron.” Betty spat out with venom lacing her words. She might be small but she was a feisty old lady.

“We’ll make sure Cameron is taken care of.” One of the twins pipped up. I could see the anger on both their face at the mention of his name. Now was probably a good time to have that chat with them.

“I need to have a talk with the twins, will you be ok here?” I asked Chloe with a frown. I was still worried about her but felt like she had calmed down substantially from early.

“I’ll be fine, I’m not going anywhere, I promise.” She replied before kissing my cheek.

“Parker, Preston, could you guys come with me to my office.” I asked.

“Sure, lead the way.” One of them replied, while pushing himself off the wall.

Jo stood from his chair and followed us. Before we left the hospital, I told the receptionist that I wanted an update if there was any change to Tom’s status. She agreed to mind-link me right away.

We made our way to the pack house and towards my office.

Once we reached my office, I opened the door and walked in before taking a seat behind my desk. The twins sat across from me, while Jo sat on the couch.

“We really wanted to thank you for helping Betty and Tom.” One of the twins said and I could tell he was sincere.

“No need to thank me. They are like family to Chloe and therefor will always be welcomed here.” I replied.

“I’m sorry, are you Preston or Parker?” I asked, feeling slightly embarrassed that I couldn’t tell them apart.

“I’m Preston.” He replied with a light chuckle.

“I take it you wanted to talk to us about Cameron?” This time Parker spoke.

“Yes, he’s planning on attack my pack with the help of Alpha Alec. Unfortunately their packs combined outnumber mine.” I replied with a heavy sigh.

“Well, you have our support. We also know a couple other lone wolves that would be willing to help. They’re good guys and we trust them.” Preston informed me.

“Thank you, I really appreciate your help.” I replied sincerely.

“It’s no problem. Chloe and Max are like little sisters to us, we would do anything for them.” Preston said.

We’ll start hanging out closer to your border since you don’t know when he’s planning on attacking.” Parker was the one to speak this time.

“Thank you, but you are welcome to stay here. I can have a cabin ready for you guys if you’d like.” I offered.

“We appreciate the offer, but we have a few plans of our own when it comes to our brother. It would only put your pack further at risk if we stayed here.” Preston replied and I frowned at his words. I wondered what they had planned?

“The Alpha meeting is in 3 days, both Alpha Cameron and Alpha Alec will be present.” I informed them.

“Perfect, we’ve been waiting for him to leave his territory. We heard about this meeting but wasn’t sure on the exact date. We’ll have our guys stationed outside your territory incase they try anything. But Parker and I will be busy most of that night.” Preston said with a mischievous smirk on his face, causing a curious frown to appear on mine.

“Are you going to tell me about your plans?” I asked.

“It’s better we don’t.” Parker said with his own smirk.

“Jo will be in charge that night. If anything happens contact him and he’ll get in touch with me. Here’s a phone so we can stay in touch.” I said, before pulling out a cell from my desk drawer and handing it to Parker.

“All the numbers you need are already programmed in the phone, contact me anytime.” I added.

“s**t’s about to go down Alpha, I hope you’re ready. It’s time our dear brother gets what he deserves.” Preston replied with a sinister look on his face.

“I’m ready. The quicker we can end that man, the quicker Chloe can finally be free of him.” I said and they both nodded.

This meeting went better than I was expecting. I’m glad the twins are willing to help. It shouldn’t be long now and Chloe will finally be able to get her revenge.
