Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 58: Meeting with the council

Preston POV

The night was a long one, Parker’s heart rate had dropped dangerously low at one point. When it did, the doctor had rushed into the room and started working on him. I held my breath the entire time, praying that he would recover. I think the moon goddess heard my silent prayers, because after a few minutes his heartbeat returned to normal.

I didn’t get any sleep, I stayed by his side all night and kept praying for him to pull through.

In the morning the doctor checked his vitals. He said that Parker was making good progress and that his condition had stabilized. The doctor figured that he would likely remain in a coma for a few days, but reassured me that it was normal after what happened.

Today was our meeting with the council and I needed to go. If we missed this opportunity I’m not sure they would give us another. I wished Parker could come with me, he was always the more passionate one and better at articulating himself. I hope I don’t let him down and can convince them to help.

I didn’t want to go, but Parker wouldn’t want me to miss this meeting. I asked Alpha Knox to call me if anything happened while I was gone.

Knox had sent a few of his men to our old camp, so that when our other guys returned they would be updated on what happened. I felt responsible for the loss of our rogue brothers, they shouldn’t have died. Once everything settled down we needed to hold a memorial and give them a proper burial.

I left Knox’s territory and headed towards the councils office. Their office was hidden in the human city. The advertisement on the building was for an accounting business, but it was just a fake front so that no one would suspect what they actually did.

When I reached the building, I found the front doors locked, but there was a buzzer with a camera right above it. I hit the buzzer and waited. Within a minute, I heard a female voice through the intercom.

“How can I help you?” She asked politely.

“I have a 10:00am meeting, my names Preston Hall.” I replied.

“Come on in.” She said, before I heard a buzz sound and the door was unlocked.

I opened the door and was greeted by a young woman sitting behind a reception desk. She was a young she-wolf, maybe 20 years old.

“Good morning, have a seat in the waiting room. The council isn’t quite ready for you yet.” She said and motioned to a row of chairs.

“Thank you.” I replied with a nod, before taking a seat.

I had borrowed a suit from Knox and was thankful for that. The office was extremely fancy and I would have felt out of place in my ripped jeans and old T-shirts that I usually wore.

I only waited five minutes before a middle aged she-wolf walked into the waiting room.

“Mr. Hall, the council is ready for you, follow me.” She said and I got up to follow her.

We walked down a long hallway until we reached a set of double doors. The she-wolf opened one of the doors and motioned for me to go in. I nodded my head, before walking past her and into the room. She immediately closed the door behind me.

There was one long table at the front of the room with five older gentleman sitting behind it. I knew immediately that they were the councilmen. In front of that table was a smaller one with two chair.

All eyes were on me the minute I had entered the room.

“Mr. Hall, we were expecting you and your brother here today. Where is he?” One of the elders asked.

“He was injured last night, he’s recovering in the hospital.” I replied.

“That’s very unfortunate, I hope it’s nothing serious.” Another one stated.

“It was serious, but he’s expected to make a full recovery.” I replied.

“Well, I’m glad to hear that. Please, have a seat Mr. Hall. For the record, are you Preston or Parker?” The elder asked, while motioned to the smaller table with two chairs.

“I’m Preston.” I replied as I took my seat.

“Well Preston, I’m Troy, this is Colin, Brett, Tanner and Zeus.” He said and pointed to each elder as he introduced them.

“We were a little surprised by your request to meet with us. It’s not everyday that rogues want an audience with the council. You must understand our hesitation at first.” Colin stated.

“Of course and I appreciate you guys agreeing to meet with me.” I replied.

“Now, you said this matter concerned Alpha Cameron. Do you mind telling us why you asked for this meeting?” Colin asked.

“This might come as a surprise to you all, but Alpha Cameron is actually our half brother. We have the same father, but different mothers.” I replied and instantly saw the shock spread across each of their faces.

“How’s that possible?” Brett asked.

“Our mother was an Omega. Alpha Warren got her pregnant and made her promise not to tell anyone that he was the father. He later met his mate and had Cameron.” I replied.

“How did you two become rogues?” Troy asked skeptically.

“Alpha Warren and his son, Cameron, thought that we might try and claim our rightful place as Alphas of the pack. They ordered a few warriors to dispose of us. They killed our mother and left us for death in rogue territory. They probably thought we would never survive alone.” I replied bitterly.

“That’s an interesting story, but why should we believe you? You could be making this up for all we know.” Zeus asked with his head tilted to the side.

“This right here has the proof.” I said with a smirk, while holding up the thumb drive.

“And if this isn’t enough, order a DNA test.” I added.

“What exactly do want to see happen?” Colin asked.

“It’s simple, we want what’s rightfully ours, the Desert Hill Pack. We are the rightful heirs.” I replied pointedly.

“That might be true, but you’ve been living as rogues since the age of 16. You don’t know anything about running a pack.” Zeus scoffed. He appeared to be the most skeptical out of the five of them.

“We know everything there is to know about being good leaders. I think anyone could do a better job than Cameron.” I retorted.

“Plus, you might be interested in some tax related documents on this drive. It seems like Cameron has been committing fraud for a very long time.” I added and watched them glance between each other. I knew my words would catch their attention.

The council was almost like the government in the werewolf world. They collected taxes from all the packs and that money was used to run the council.

“We will need to see what’s on that thumb drive.” Colin stated.

“Absolutely, you can keep it. I’ve already made a copy.” I replied.

“Give us a day to go over the evidence and do our own investigation. We’ll contact you when we have a decision.” Troy said thoughtfully.

“No problem, you have my number.” I replied.

“Sasha will show you out.” He said as the door opened and the same she-wolf from early walked in.

“Thank you.” I said and bowed before making my way to the door.

The she-wolf they called Sasha; led me to the front doors and I thanked her before leaving the building.

As soon as I stepped outside I let out a deep breath. I was glad the meeting was over, but I also had no clue how it went. The councilmen all had blank expressions on their faces and they didn’t really say much during the meeting. I could only hope that I provided enough evidence to win them over.

Sheryl POV

I was at the hospital for another doctors appointment. The doctor had been keeping a close eye on my pregnancy because of all the stress Kyle had put me through.

While we waited in the examination room, I felt my wolf become restless. I figured she was just stressed about the appointment like I was. She was very protective of our pup and with everything that happened, it’s been hard for her to relax. We both just wanted our baby to be healthy, so I completely understand where she was coming from.

“Good morning Sheryl, are you ready to see your little pup?” The doctor asked, as he walked into the room.

“Good morning, I am.” I replied with a soft smile.

He took a seat next to the hospital bed, where there was an ultrasound machine already waiting.

It didn’t take long for him to start the scan and for my sweet baby boy to appear on the screen. I could hear the whooshing sound of little heart beating. Happy tears started falling from my eyes. I already loved this baby so much. I couldn’t wait to finally hold him in my arms.

I will protect you little one, no one will ever hurt you. I thought to myself as the doctor continued with the scan.

“He seems healthy and happy in there.” The doctor remarked with a smile.

“That’s great. Thank you doctor.” I replied as he handed me a towel to wipe the gel off my belly.

He’s growing at a good rate and I think he’s going to be a big pup.” The doctor added and I smiled.

“I want to see you again next week, so make an appointment with the receptionist before you leave.” The doctor added before standing from his chair.

“Ok, I will.” I replied and he left the room.

I finished wiping my stomach before leaving the room. As I made my way down the hall, my wolf started acting up again.

I was about to ask what her problem was, when I noticed a nurse at the very end of the hall pushing a stretcher into a room. For some reason I felt drawn towards it. As I got closer, I was hit with the most intoxicating scent, It was both woodsy and musky. I noticed the man laying on the stretcher was either asleep or unconscious and his abdomen was completely wrapped with gauze.

When the door closed behind them, I froze in my tracks. The realization of what was happening hit me like a brick. I knew who that man was to me before my wolf even said the word. He was our second chance mate. No this can’t be happened.

How was this possible? I can’t have a second chance mate. This is bad, so bad. My wolf didn’t agree, she thought this was fantastic and was prancing around excitedly in my head.

I don’t know how long I had been standing in the hallway, before the same nurse exited the room.

“Excuse me? What happened to him?” I asked her softly.

“He was shot with a silver bullet, he almost died last night.” She replied with a sad smile.

“That’s horrible.” I practically whispered. My heart was breaking for this complete stranger. Who was he? Why was he on our territory?

“The poor guy’s probably going to be in a coma for days.” She added with a sad smile, before walking away from me. Leaving me once again alone with my thoughts.

Without even realizing it, I had walked up to his door and my hand was now resting on the handle.

I just wanted to see him once, even if it was only for a second. He was unconscious after all, he wouldn’t even know I was there. My wolf was screaming for me to open the door, she desperately wanted her mate.

I took a deep breath before opened the door.

My eyes scanned the room before they stopped on the unconscious man laying on the bed. He was breathtakingly handsome. He had short brown hair and a little stubble on his jawline. His features were very manly and sharp. He had wide shoulders and from what I could see, he was extremely muscular and tall.

I felt drawn to him like a moth to a flame. My feet moved on their own accord and suddenly I was standing next to the bed.

The only sound in the room was the steady beeping of his heart monitor. A whirlwind of emotions hit me and my own heart started beating erratically. Why would the moon goddess do this to me?

“Maybe you and I could have been happy together if I had met you before Kyle?” I said softly as I took a seat next to the bed.

“Maybe you would have even loved me?” I added and the thought alone broke my heart. That’s all I ever wanted, a mate to love and cherished me. Kyle never did, I was nothing but a possession to him.

“Now I’m nothing but used goods. Who would want a mate who’s pregnant with another man’s baby?” I whispered in a shaky voice.

It was true, who would ever want me now? Even if he accepted me, he would never accept my baby.

Without even realizing what I was doing, my hand reached up to his face and I brushed his cheek with my shaky fingers

When I touched his skin, I felt the familiar tingles of the mate bond. The beeping of his heart monitor sped up and I instantly froze. Did I cause that?

He stared to stir and his eyebrows furrowed together, before his jaw clenched. What the hell? He was suppose to be unconscious for days, he can’t be waking up already.

He couldn’t see me, not yet. I couldn’t go through another rejection, my baby might not make it through the pain this time.

Before he could wake up, I ran out of the room.

I saw the doctor running towards me so I turned and headed in the opposite direction.

As soon as I stepped outside the hospital, I let out a breath I didn’t realize I had been holding in.

Tears ran down my cheeks as my emotions spiralled out of control. Why was I going through this again? Why couldn’t I be left alone? It wasn’t fair, I desperately wanted a mate that would love me unconditionally, but felt like I didn’t deserve one.

“You ok?“ I heard a familiar voice ask.

“Ya, I’m fine.” I replied while wiping my tears and turned around to see Max standing there.

“You don’t look fine.” She argued and crossed her arms over her chest.

“Is the baby ok?“ She asked cautiously.

“Ya, the baby‘s doing great. I’m just emotional that’s all.” I replied with a smile that didn’t reach my eyes.

“Ok.” She said as she examined me skeptically. I could tell she didn’t believe me.

“I have to go, I’ll see you around.” I said and quickly walked away before she could ask me anymore questions.

What am I going to do? How do I avoid him until my baby is born? I wish he had been my first mate, maybe he would have actually loved me. My wolf whimpered in my head at the thought.
