Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 63: He’s dead

Knox POV

My mind was still processing what happened tonight. Why did Kyle do it? He tried to kidnap Sheryl, threatened to kill her and don’t even get me started on the sick things he insinuated doing to Max.

I couldn’t help but wonder if I failed him growing up. I was his big brother, how did I not see him going down this dark path? Could I have been a better role model for him?

I knew I should have stopped Max from killing Kyle, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I kept imagining the scenario involving Chloe and Cameron. Would I deprive Chloe of getting her revenge? I don’t even have to think about that one, the answer was an obvious, no.

I knew there would be consequences for what happened tonight , but I would deal with that when the time came. The council would certainly replace out about the death of my brother and have questions for me. I’ll have to make sure I’m prepared to answer them.

Chloe was beyond angry, I had to physically hold her back from going after Kyle. It was obvious that she felt her friends pain and wanted him to pay as much as Max and Jo did. I held her back because it wasn’t her fight. This one was all on Max and no one should take that privilege from her.

When I felt that the situation was under control, I carried a kicking and screaming Chloe back to the pack house. Kyle deserved whatever was coming, but I still didn’t want to watch. He was my brother after all and although he deserves whatever Max did to him, somewhere in my heart it still hurt.

When we arrived at the pack house my parents were waiting for me by the front doors. By the looks on their faces, it was clear they already knew something bad had happened. I told them to wait for me in my office while I brought Chloe up to our room.

She had calmed down at the point and her anger was replaced with tears. She seemed exhausted and as soon as I laid in bed with her, she instantly relaxed.

I held her in my arms and let her cry into my shoulder until she eventually fell asleep. When I was confident that she was in a deep sleep, I laid her down on the bed, before leaving the room.

I let out a heavy sigh as I made my way towards my office. I knew this was going to be a hard conversation to have with my parents. They lost a son tonight, it doesn’t matter how evil he was, he was still their youngest child. I kept wondering if I did the right thing, but every time I doubted myself my wolf reminded me of Chloe and the doubt would vanished.

Once I opened my office door, I found my father sitting across from my desk, while my mother paced behind him.

“Knox, what happened?” My mother asked worriedly.

“Sit mother, you’re not going to like what I have to say.” I replied and the concern on her face only intensified. She did comply and took a seat next to my father.

I made my way around the desk and took my seat. How do I even start this conversation? I guess ripping the bandage off would probably be best. My parents were both watching me with anxious eyes waiting for me to speak.

“Kyle tried to kidnap Sheryl tonight and threatened to kill her and the pup.” I said and let out a heavy sigh. My mother gasped in shock, but my father remained silent.

“How could he do that?” My mother asked, but I knew the question was more to herself.

“Is Sheryl ok?” She added and her eyes shot up to meet mine.

“She will be. Her second chance mates are with her now.” I replied and a flash of curiosity crossed my mothers eyes, before the concern returned.

“What about Kyle? Where is he?” My father asked in a serious tone.

“What he did to Sheryl was only the beginning.” I replied and paused before continuing.

“He basically admitted to raping Max years ago.” I added and my mother’s hand shot up to cover her mouth.

“The rogue? I don’t believe it.” My father scoffed.

“Yes, the rogue and it’s true. There were several witnesses present when he said it. He was smug about it and there wasn’t even an ounce of regret in his voice when he taunted her.” I replied with an edge of irritation in my voice.

I don’t care if my father was in denial, there was no doubt in my mind after hearing Kyle tonight that he had hurt Max. My mother was bawling her eyes out at this point and I knew she would be disgusted with what Kyle did.

“Oh my goddess, how could he do that? What did we do wrong with him?” My mother sobbed.

“You did nothing wrong, Kyle did this to himself.” I said pointedly. My father’s eyebrows were furrowed and he looked deep in thought.

“Where is he now?” My father eventually asked and I sucked in a deep breath before replying.

“Dead.” I replied and my mothers sobs got louder.

“This can’t be happening.” She whispered while covering her faces with her hands. My father had an angry expression on his face and I was struggling to figure out what was going through his mind.

“You killed him?” He asked, the anger was clear in his tone.

“No I didn’t, I let Max decide his fate. I will admit though, I wanted to kill him myself after what he did to Sheryl.” I replied sternly. It was the truth, if Max didn’t kill him, I probably would have after what he did.

I noticed my mother’s sobs had gone quiet and looked over to see that the expression on her face had hardened.

“I can’t believe you let some rogue kill your own brother.” My father spat out with disgust in his tone, as he pushed his chair back and stood up abruptly.

“Shut up, Frederick.” My mother barked back and it took me by surprise. My mother never spoke to my father like that.

“Have you not heard a word he said?” She asked and her once sad demeanour was replaced with anger. My father stood there with his mouth partially opened looking completely shocked.

“He was a monster. Son or not, he deserved what he got. He had already hurt Sheryl and almost made her miscarry. Now he dared try to kidnap her, threaten to kill not only her, but their pup as well. Hearing what he did to that poor girl, Max, makes me sick to my stomach.” My mother added, while standing from her seat and challenging my father with her dark, determined eyes.

“Connie, don’t speak to me like that. You may be upset because you lost your son, but I will not tolerate such disrespect.” My father growled.

“I didn’t lose a son, a monster like him doesn’t deserve that title.” She spat back defiantly.

“I blame you for how he turned out. Your infidelity and lack of respect for your own mate clearly rubbed off on him. I hope you’re proud of yourself.” She added and stormed out of the room before my father could say a word.

I was shocked by my mothers words. I knew my father wasn’t the best mate, but definitely wasn’t aware that he had been unfaithful to her. I felt another wave of anger rush through me. Was he still cheating on my mother?

“You better contact the council about this or I will.” My father seethed, while turning his attention towards me.

“I’m the Alpha of this pack, I’ll do what’s best for my people.” I gritted out and my father turned to leave the office, but stopped when I spoke up.

“If what she said is true, you don’t deserve her and I swear to the moon goddess, if you ever hurt her again, I’ll f*****g kill you myself.” I threatened. He stayed at the door with his back turned towards me for a few seconds, before eventually leaving without saying anything.

I let out a breath once I was finally alone. What a mess this turned out to be. I hated to admitted it, but my father was right. It would be better if I contacted the council before they found out and came snooping around my territory. I was brought out of my thoughts when I received a mind-link.

‘Are you still up?’ Jo asked through the link.

‘Ya, I’m in my office. Everything ok with you and Max?’ I asked in a concerned tone. I knew Max was very similar to Chloe and could only imagine how she reacted after we left them with Kyle.

‘Ya, she’s sleeping. I’ll come down and see you.’ He replied and cut the link.

A few minutes later there was a light knock on the door.

“Come in” I announced and Jo walked in looking stressed. He immediately took a seat across from me.

“How’s Max?” I asked.

“Hurting.” He replied with a pained sigh.

“Man, I’m so sorry…” I started but was cut off.

“You didn’t hurt her, he did.” Jo replied and I nodded.

“I need to tell the council what happened. If I don’t they’ll get suspicious.” I informed him and I watched his eyebrows furrow together.

“What about Max? Jo asked in a concerned tone.

“I think we need to ask the council to conduct a proper investigation for Max’s case. There were several of us that witnessed what Kyle said tonight. I think if we bring it up to the council before they come looking, we stand a better chance at convincing them.” I replied.

“I don’t know, Knox. Max won’t like that idea.” Jo said with a concerned frown.

“I know it’s not ideal, but all the witnesses tonight will only help her case. What else is she going to do? Run and hide for the rest of her life?” I asked and he let out a defeated sigh.

“I know we have to face them at some point, I just don’t want her doing anything rash.” He replied, while rubbing his hands down his face.

“I’ll call them in the morning and get a feel for what they think, then we can decide what to do.” I added.

“Thanks, Knox. I still can’t believe what happened to her. Who can do that to their own mate?” He replied and I could see the anger in his eyes.

“I don’t know, it’s sick and twisted. Max and Chloe are by far the strongest women I’ve ever met. Not only did they survive what they went through, but they aren’t letting their past control their future.” I said and he nodded.

“You got that right. I only spent a couple days in rogue territory and it was horrible. I don’t know how they did it for all those years and alone on top of that. I’m actually not confident I would have survived if I had been in their shoes.” He replied, before shaking his head in disbelief.

“I hear ya, man. They’re survivors that’s for sure.” I added.

“I promise, I’ll do everything I can to protect Max. If I get a bad feeling when I speak with the council, I’ll let you know.” I added.

“Thanks… Oh, there’s one more thing. After Max fell asleep I went back to deal with Kyle’s body. I found this.” He replied and pulled out a black smart phone from his pocket.

“What’s that?“ I asked with a curious frown.

“Kyle’s cellphone. It’s locked, but shouldn’t be that difficult for one of our tech guys to break in. I’m sure that rogue, Bert, could probably figured it out within seconds.” Jo replied.

“Thanks. I’ll get someone working on it in the morning. Maybe there’s something useful on it.” I said before taking the phone from him.

“I know this is probably going to bite me in the a*s, but I don’t want Max to know about the council just yet. I want to hear what they say before I tell her. If it sounds like she’s going to be locked up or worse, sent back to Alpha Alec’s pack, I want to know. I won’t let them punish her for something she did in self defence.” He stated firmly.

“Absolutely, that’s understandable. Let’s see what they say, if I get any inclination that they plan on locking her up, we can contact Alpha Victor. He was willing to help hide her, I’m sure he still would be.” I replied and he nodded.

“It’s been a long night, I’m going to check on my mate.” He said with a heavy sigh, before standing from his seat.

“I hear ya, I need to do the same.” I replied.

“One more thing.” I said and Jo paused at the door, before looking back at me over his shoulder.

“Nice mark.” I said and watched a proud grin spread across his face.

“Thanks.” He replied, before leaving my office with an extra bounce to his step.

I’m glad that even though tonight was horrible for him and Max, it seemed to have brought them closer together. I knew Jo was the right man to help Max heal and I’m happy she was finally realizing that. She wouldn’t have marked him otherwise, now we just need to make sure the council believes our evidence and doesn’t lock her up.
