Saving His Feral Mate -
Chapter 7: An acquaintance
Tatiana POV
I woke at nightfall, after I had fallen asleep on Betty and Tom’s front porch. I got up and left the area, as much as I like them, I was now a lone wolf and better off on my own. I don’t like spending to much time in one spot, it puts a target on my back. I knew alpha Cameron was still looking for me. I had come across a few of his men over the past few years and while torturing one, he confessed that I was a target. It made my b***d boil, I can’t wait for the day that I get revenge.
I made my way to a creek and had a drink of water, before it was time to hunt down dinner.
As I was about to leave, I heard a woman’s voice. It didn’t take long for me to recognize who it was, It was another rogue, her name is Max. Well, her full name is Maxine, but she calls herself Max. She always talked to herself. We aren’t friends or anything, but I’ve run into her several times over the past two years. We seem to stick around the same areas. We have an unspoken agreement, that we stay out of each other’s way.
The woman is definitely odd. She’s a few fries short of a full meal deal, if you know what I mean. But some people would say the same thing about me, so who am I to judge. She never wears any clothes, the only thing she ever has on, is pair of cowboy boots and a belt with a machete holster. I don’t know how she became a rogue, I can only imagine that at some point in her life, she’s suffered like I have. Female rogues are rare, they usually don’t survive long as a lone wolf. They are either killed or taken as playthings by male rogues. Max and I, seem to be the exception to the rule.
She’s innocent enough, we’ve even helped each other out during rogue attacks, but I wouldn’t say we are friends. At this point in my life, I’ve accepted my fate as a feral wolf. The only reason I’m still alive, is to seek revenge.
I tried to turn away before Max noticed me, but I was to late.
“Hey Red, what’s cooking?” She asked, while bathing herself in the creek.
She knew I wouldn’t respond. Like always, I stay in my wolf form and she stayed in human form. I’ve seen her fight many times and she’s good, but not once has she shifted into her wolf. She always has a machete and it seems to be her weapon of choice.
I kept walking and ignored her words, like I always do.
“Good chat, Red.” She shouted, while laughing to herself. She calls me Red, it’s a nickname she’s given me based on the colour of my fur.
I continued to move through the forest. It was time to replace something to eat, my stomach was rumbling.
I crouched down in some tall grass, hiding myself from any potential prey and waited. I was hoping maybe a rabbit or squirrel would pass by me.
After 20 minutes, I was about to give up, when I hurt a twig snap. My ears perked up and I licked my lips in anticipation of a good meal.
Shortly after, I heard a few more twigs snap and some ruffling in the bushes. I quickly realized, that whatever was making that noise, was bigger than what I wanted for dinner.
I became on high alert, listening and smelling everything around me. That’s when I smelt it, a wolf, not just any wolf, but someone from Alpha Cameron’s pack. Each pack has their own distinct scent, that mixes in with your own personal scent. That way, when you come across another wolf, you can recognize which pack they belong to. Panic took over, as I wondered if Alpha Cameron had sent more of his men after me.
I remained hidden in the tall grass, hoping that they would keep moving past my location.
But unfortunately for me, I wasn’t that lucky. A wolf came into sight, he was a decent size wolf and I knew right away that he was a warrior. I didn’t recognize him, but that didn’t surprise me. I was pretty sheltered at my old pack and didn’t know all the members. The wolf hadn’t spotted me yet, but he was sniffing the air, as if he could sense my presence.
He shifted into his human form. He was tall, around 6’2, with shoulder length dark brown hair and a muscular build. He was looking around the general area where I was hiding. My heart beat picked up, as he got closer and closer.
I was getting ready to take him out, thinking he was alone, when six more wolves came into sight. s**t, I’m completely outnumbered, I thought to myself.
I decided to stay hidden for now. If they replace me, I won’t go down without a fight. Over my dead body, will I ever go back to that hellhole.
“She’s near here, I can smell her.” The now naked man said. They were only 20 feet away at this point and heading directly towards where I was hiding.
All of a sudden, I heard Max coming towards us humming the song, Born to be Wild. She sounded oblivious and I internally cringed. s**t, she’s going to walk right into this mess, I thought to myself. I got into position ready to fight, if it came down to that.
The naked man and wolves, all froze when they heard Max humming and turned towards where she was coming from.
“Oh, hey fellas. I seemed to have lost my way. Would y’all mind pointing me towards the closest City?” She asked, in a southern ascent, while batting her eye lashes and making herself look innocent.
Max is around my age, maybe a year or two older. She’s tall, around 5’8 with long raven black hair, that she always has in a braid over her shoulder. She’s got a perfect body, with big boobs, a tiny waist and a good size booty. Crazy or not, she’s hot. I wasn’t sure what she was playing at right now, but she certainly wasn’t acting herself.
I noticed the wolves were looking at her with l**t filled eyes. It was clear she got their attention and they didn’t feel threatening by her presence. She was putting on a girlie persona, that was nothing like her true self.
The naked guy, chuckled dryly at her words and I could sense his bad intentions towards her. I sure hope she knows what she’s doing.
“How did a pretty little thing like you, end up out here, living like a rogue? Come here, I’ll show you the way.” The naked guy taunted, with a perverted smirk on his face. He moved towards Max, until he stood directly in front of her. He lifted his hand to grab ahold of her, she didn’t even flinch. I knew s**t was about to hit the fan and got myself ready to jump in if it did.
Just like that, using inhuman speed, Max drew her machete and severed the naked guys head from his body. After that, chaos erupted. All six remaining wolves attacked her. That was my cue, I didn’t waste anytime before joined the fight.
I saw the warriors stiffen, when they noticed me joining in. Two turned their attention towards me and attacked. I was bigger and faster, it didn’t take long for me to rip the throat out of one of the wolves, killing him instantly. The second wolf lunged at me, but I quickly moved out to the way. As he slid by, I extended my claws and tore through his abdomen. He yelped in pain, as he fell to the ground.
I turned around and saw that Max had killed two more of the wolves. We were down to one. We had him corned against a tree, his eyes were darting wildly between Max and I. He made a stupid move, by lunging towards me. I was ready to defend myself but before I could, Max had sliced through him like butter with her machete, killing him on the spot. I was slightly disappointed that she took that kill from me, so I let out an annoyed huff.
“Oh, come on Red. Don’t be like that.” She teased, as she walked over to one of the wolves that I had initially fought. That’s when I realized he was still alive. The injury to his abdomen was severe, causing him to forcefully shift into his human form, but it wasn’t fatal. He was still unconscious at the moment.
I watch curiously, as Max pulled out a silver collar from her shoulder bag and started to put it on the naked man’s neck. She then pulled out a leach. I growled at her, wanting to know what she’s doing.
“What, I thought I would keep this one as pet. Would be a shame to let that c**k go to waste.” She said, while wiggling her eyebrows and motioning to his large manhood.
I growled menacingly, not liking the idea of letting one of Alpha Cameron’s men live. What if he made it back somehow and told Alpha Cameron where I was hanging out.
“Ok, fine…Gosh, you can be a party pooper sometimes.” Max grumbled, while slicing the man’s throat with her machete, killing him instantly.
I nodded in satisfaction, before turning and walking away.
“What, you’re not gonna thank me? I totally just saved your a*s.” Max teased, while walking beside me. I snarled at her words. She didn’t save me, I had everything under control, at least that’s what I was telling myself.
“So what’s your deal, anyway? Never seen you in your human form. I bet you can’t shift, can you?” She asked, while glancing at me curiously. I just kept walking, no matter how many times I don’t answer, she still continues to ask questions.
“Hey I’m not judging, I’m in the same boat. Well sorta. I lost my wolf years ago, I can’t shift either.” She confessed. I couldn’t help but look over at her, I was a little curious about her story. She almost looked sad for a moment, catching me off guard. She was always carefree and nutty, seeing a vulnerable side was new.
“You know what I do when I replace myself missing my wolf?” She asked and paused before continuing. Now she had my curiosity. I’m always missing my human, I would take any tips on how to cope at this point.
“I don’t shave for a few weeks and it’s like she’s right back here with me.” She said with a grin. Yup, that’s the Max I know. I shook my head in disbelief, wondering how I thought something helpful would come out of her mouth.
“I guess you could do the opposite and shave off all your fur.” She said with a thoughtful frown, before stopping abruptly and scrunched her nose in disgust.
“Scratch that. I just got a visual image and you’d look more like one of those hairless cats. Those things are creepy.” She blurted out, while shuddering at the thought.
“Honestly, I’d take on the biggest wolf there is, but you put one of those hairless cats in front of me and I’m high tailing it out there as fast as possible.” She added, while shaking her head. Where does this women come up with this stuff? I guess living by yourself for so long makes you lose your sanity.
“Well, as usual Red, it’s been a great chat. See ya around.” Max said cheerfully, before saluting and walking off in the opposite direction.
She’s a different duck, but she’s proven herself to be helpful. I certainly appreciate having her as an acquaintance, in this cruel and unforgiving world.
