Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 80: Attack part 2

Chloe POV

As soon as Knox and the warriors left the territory it started raining. A storm was brewing in the sky and it caused a cold shiver to rundown my spine. I felt uneasy, probably because I was worried for my mate and pack.

I had everyone except for the warriors gathered in the pack house, that way if something happened we could quickly get them into the bunker. The atmosphere was tense, I did my best to reassure the elders and children, but they were still worried.

Even though my Luna ceremony was rushed and tense, I’m glad we did it. At least now I could communicate through mind-link with the warriors. They were instructed to contact me if they came across anything suspicious.

“Dear, you ok?” Connie asked as she walked over to me. I was standing next to the living room window watching the rain storm that was going on outside.

“Ya, I’m ok.” I replied with a heavy sigh.

“It will all be over soon, try not to stress.” She stated and gently squeezed my shoulder.

“I’m going to make some tea, would you like a cup?” She asked.

“I’m ok, thank you.” I replied with a soft smile and she nodded before walking away.

I continued to watch out the window. The rain had really picked up and I could even hear a thunderstorm in the distance. It wouldn’t be long before that storm was over top of us.

I could see warriors patrolling along the edge of the forest and I knew there were several more hidden inside of it.

“Goddess, I wish I could have gone with them. Why do they get to have all the fun while we stay here and babysit?” Max whined as she walked over to me.

“Our job here is important, Max. These people are relying on us to keep them safe.” I replied pointedly.

“I guess so.” Max grumbled.

Our conversation was interrupted when I received a mind-link.

‘Luna, get everyone in the bunker. We’re under attack from the North’. One of the warriors announced. My b***d immediately ran cold. Who was attacking us.

‘How many’? I asked.

‘At least 100, I smell some of Alpha Cameron and Alec’s men’, he replied, his voice laced with concern.

‘We’ll be out to help as soon as we get everyone in the bunker.’ I replied.

‘No Luna, there’s too many. Stay in the bunker with the others.’ The warrior pleaded, but I cut the link.

“What is it? I don’t like the look on your face.” Max asked with a frown.

“We’re under attack. North end of the territory.” I replied as quickly moved into the middle of the room.

“Listen up! We’re under attack, I need everyone into the basement, now! If you need help getting down there ask someone.” I announced and heard several shocked gasps throughout the room.

Everyone got up from their seats and hurriedly made their way into the basement.

“Who’s attacking us?” Connie asked in a panicked tone.

“Cameron and Alec’s men.” I replied as I helped an elderly woman down the stairs.

“But, how is that possible?” She asked.

“I don’t know but I need you to take care of things in the bunker. Tessa can help you.” I replied.

“Where are you going?” She asked.

“To help the warriors.” I replied and I glanced over to see the concern in her eyes. I could tell she wanted to argue but now wasn’t the time. We needed to make sure everyone got into the bunker safely.

“Luna! They’re attacking from the south as well.” A familiar female voice stated and turned to see Veronica panting heavily. Her clothes were torn and she was covered in b***d.

“What were you doing out there?” I questioned. I had asked everyone to stay in the pack house, but she clearly didn’t listen.

“I just went outside for some fresh air and was attacked. Some of the warriors intervened, but they’re getting closer to the pack house.” She replied sounding panicked.

s**t, they can’t make it to the pack house. We have to help the warriors.

“Will you guys be ok? We have to go and help them.” I asked Connie.

“Yes, everyone’s here, I think. I’ll do a head count and lock the door.” She replied.

“Good, we need to go.” I said.

“Be careful.” Connie said as she grabbed my arm. Her eyes were filled with concern.

“I will.” I replied before turning around and running up the stairs.

I got up to the main level and found Max fastening the machete to her belt.

“You ready? We need to go help the warriors to the south.” I asked.

“I was born ready.” She replied confidently.

We quickly made our way to the backdoor and outside. The sound of wolves fighting immediately assaulted my ears. There was lots of growling, yelping and snarling echoing around us.

‘Max and I are going to help the warriors to the south. When things are under control to the North send your men our way.’ I informed the head warrior.

‘Luna, most of the warriors to the South came to help us in the North. We’re outnumbered.’ He replied, his voice sounding slightly panicked.

“s**t, I don’t know how many of our warriors are left in the South. Some went to help fight in the North.” I told Max.

“I guess we’re about to replace out.” She replied as she drew her machete.

I stripped out of my clothes and shifted into my wolf. Tatiana was ready to fight. Max on the other hand, stayed in her human form. I wasn’t surprised by that. She had gotten use to fighting as a human and she still preferred it over her wolf form.

I took off running and Max followed behind. She was fast in her human form, but I still slowed my pace slightly so that we could stick together.

Once we reached the tree line, the smell of b***d invaded my nose. We moved through the trees toward the sound of fighting. The coppery smell got stronger the deeper we got.

I spotted a body laying on the ground a few feet away from us. As we got closer, I recognize it as being one of our warriors, Baron. His body was torn to shreds and it was clear just by looking at him that he was already dead. My heart sank as reality sunk in. I wasn’t sure we could win this fight with the majority of our pack away.

We kept moving through the forest and came across more of our warriors deceased bodies. The sound of fighting was dying down and I was getting a bad feeling in my gut. Were we losing?

“If we go down, we go down together.” Max stated firmly, clearly getting the same bad feeling as I was.

We continued moving through the forest, when I picked up the smell of wolves, lots of them.

I glanced over at Max and knew she had smelt them too since her machete was now raised in front of her and she was on high alert.

A twig snapped to our left and we both spun around in a defensive stance. Within seconds, 5 wolves came into view, growling and snarling at us.

I then heard another twig snap behind us and watched Max turn towards it. We were now back to back.

“5 more on this side, Red.” Max stated in a dangerously calm voice. That was one of the things I loved about Max, no matter how stressful a situation got she always had her head on straight.

It didn’t take long for the wolves surrounding us to attack. Even though we were severely outnumbered, we were still ready to put up a fight.

I lunged forward and met the first wolf mid air. Our opened jaws collided as we fell to the ground. I felt a sting on my shoulder and realized that another wolf had taken advantage of the fact that I was distracted and bit down on my flesh.

I turned my attention to the first wolf who was now laying underneath me. I sunk my teeth into his neck and heard a painful yelp leave his muzzle before his body went limp. I knew I had administered a fatal blow.

I turned my attention to the wolf that still latched onto my shoulder, he was sinking his teeth in deeper, only fuelling my rage. I was about to throw myself back first into a tree, when I heard an all too familiar voice.

“I want her alive, you i***t!” He said making my b***d run cold.

The wolf that was still biting me, whimpered before loosening his hold. I took his distracted state to my advantage and pulled away from him. I spun around and sunk my teeth into his throat before ripping it out. The wolf’s lifeless body dropped to the ground with a thud.

I turned around to see a cocky looking Cameron standing only 10 feet away with 4 other men at his side. I spat the throat of his warrior towards him and growled viciously.

‘If we die, we’re taking him with us.’ I said to Tatiana in my head.

‘You know it.’ She growled back.

I couldn’t even see Max anymore, I had no idea where she was or if she was ok. We must have gotten separated in the fight. I really hoped she was ok. I didn’t have much time to think about it when Cameron brought me out of my thoughts.

“Looks like you’re a little outnumbered. Do you want to do this the easy way or hard way?” He asked, with an evil smirk on his face. I looked around me and he was right. I was surrounded by 3 wolves and 5 men.

I growled and bared my teeth at him.

“I thought you might pick the hard way.” He replied with a chuckle before pulling out a syringe from his pocket. s**t, not this again.

I noticed a small space between two of his men. If I moved fast enough, I might be able to squeeze by them before they get a chance to react.

I let out a big huff to make it look like I was giving up.

“Good girl.” He said as he got closer, but before he could reach me, I darted between his men and took off away from the territory. I was heading towards the border. At least if I drew them away, it would be less men for our warriors to worry about.

I tried mine-linking the warriors, but got no answer. I hoped that it was just because we were too far apart and not because they were dead. That thought alone broke my heart.

“Get her!” Cameron shouted, before I heard several howls and the sound of paws hitting the ground behind me.

I wasn’t very familiar with the southern territory. I use to live in the North when I was a rogue and never came this far south.

I was thankful for Tatiana’s speed right now. I could still hear the wolves behind me, but they weren’t gaining on me. We had crossed over the border a long time ago and were still heading south.

Maybe I still had a chance. I thought to myself at the exact moment I emerged from some bushes and came to a screeching halt at the edge of a cliff. The fall was at least 250 feet and below was a fast flowing river. The cliff went on for miles in both directions. f**k! This was literally the worst case scenario. The fall alone looked deadly, but if you managed to somehow survive, the rough water below would definitely drag you under.

I heard paws slowing behind me and knew they had caught up. Now I had two choice, I jump and die or fight and possibly still die. Of course I picked the latter. If I’m dying anyway, I plan on taking as many of these asshats with me.

I turned around to face the wolves behind me, there were only 4 of them. I wondered where the others went. I didn’t have much time to think about it before Cameron came into view.

“This is exactly why I picked the south, I knew you wouldn’t make it far.” He taunted.

f**k, I really wanted to bite his face off right now.

“Now, let’s try this again, shall we?” He said as him and the four wolves inched closer to me. He had already pulled out the syringe. Coward, I thought to myself.

“Hey Red, you look like you’re about to have some fun without me. That’s not fair.” I heard Max’s pouty voice and glanced behind the wolves to see her casually leaning again a tree. Somehow she ended up completely naked and covered in b***d. Her presence gave me that boost of energy I needed, we still had a chance to win.

“Kill that one! I got this one.” Cameron ordered, without taking his disgusting eyes off me.

The 4 wolves turned towards Max and lunged at her. I immediately heard a yelp and knew she had landed a hit with her machete.

“Little wolf, do you really think you can win against me?” Cameron asked and chuckled darkly. My eyes remained locked with the hand in which he was holding the syringe. I needed to avoid that syringe or it was all over for me.

Before he could get another word in, I lunged at him. He moved out of the way before I could bite down on his flesh.

I turned around just as he tried to jab the needle into my back and latched my teeth into his forearm.

“Awwwww” he gritted out in pain before dropping the syringe. He used his other fist to punch me in the head. The blow was enough to make my grip loosen on his arm.

He got out of my hold and shifted into his wolf. His wolf was barely bigger than mine, but I knew I could take him. Living as a rogue for so long has it’s benefits, you learn to fight if you want to survive.

He lunged at me and I side stepped his attack. He growled in frustration before turning around to face me. We circled each other before I lunged at him. He tried to move, but I was faster and I bit into his shoulder ferociously . He yelped in pain before throwing himself backwards on top of me. The impact caused me to lose my grip and he broke free.

Before I could get back up on all fours. He latched his teeth into my hind leg. The pain only fuelled my desire to kill him. How does the saying go? What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.

While he was latched onto my hind leg, I swung my head around and bit into his h*p with as much force as I could. He yelped and immediately released his hold on me. I tore a good chunk of flesh and spat it out. I noticed he was limping now. Good, I thought to myself.

He tried to lunge, but his movements were slow now. It was easy to avoid and as he slid past me, I latched onto his other h*p. Another yelp left his muzzle as I tore another chunk of flesh from his body.

He could barely walk anymore and it made me happy inside. I didn’t want this to be fast. I wanted him to suffer, we all knew he deserved it.

The injuries must have been severe, because suddenly he shifted into his naked human form. His body was covered in b***d.

“You bitch.” He seethed, as I circled him like a predator would with it’s pray.

He tried to stand up, but I lunged and bit down on his calf. He screamed in pain as I sunk my teeth in deeper. He tried punching my head several times, but I wasn’t letting go. This fight was mine and he didn’t stand a chance anymore.

His punches became weak so I finally released him. He was a panting, bloody mess laying there in front of me. I could tell by the expression on his face that he knew he had lost.

“You’ll never get away with this.” He gritted out. If a wolf could grin, that was exactly what I did.

‘End him.’ I told Tatiana in my head.

‘With pleasure.’ She growled back before we lunged at him.

Our teeth sunk into his throat, but not deep enough to kill him. He gasped for air and struggled to break free, but there was no use. I wasn’t letting go even if my life depended on it.

After a few minutes his body stilled and his breathing became laboured. That’s when I bit down hard and heard the sickening sound of his neck snapping. When I let go, his lifeless body fell to the ground in front of me.

Relief washed over me as the realization that I had won sunk in. Cameron would never be able to torment me again. He would never hurt anyone I loved ever again.

“You know, it’s not polite to play with your food.” I heard Max’s amused voice coming from somewhere behind me.

I turned around and found her standing 5 feet away surround by dead bodies.

I shifted into my human form before smiling at her.

“Let’s go check on the pack.” I said and before she could reply. I heard the sound of a gun shot.

Max’s eyes widened, before her body fell to the ground. What the hell was going on?

I looked up to see Troy standing behind her with a gun pointed at me.

“You two have cost me everything. Did you think I was just going to let it go?” He asked in a bitter tone.

I had backed away from him, but knew I was getting close to the edge of the cliff. Crap, was this old man going to be the one that actually killed me?

Knox POV

We got back to our territory as the battle ended. We had lost some warriors, but luckily won the fight.

My head warrior told me that Chloe and Max had headed south and hadn’t been heard of since. Panic rushed through me, was she ok? Why weren’t my warriors with her?

I didn’t have time to ask questions as I took off at a full sprint to the south. Jo, Jag, Xander and Vincent followed behind.

We came across several deceased warriors and some of Cameron’s men. It was a total b***d bath which only added to my anxiety.

Suddenly I heard a gun shot and Jo whimpered before his wolf fell to the ground in pain. I knew what that meant, Max must have gotten hurt.

I pushed myself harder, I needed to get to them.

As we approached the cliff to the south, I heard Chloe.

“f**k you! I’m glad we brought your corrupt a*s down.” She spat out.

I cleared some bushes and froze at the sight in front of me. Chloe was standing at the edge of the cliff and Troy was pointing a gun at her. Max was laying in between them and she was completely unresponsive.

I quickly shifted into my human form.

“Don’t do it, Troy, it’s not worth it.” I said and watching his head snap in my direction.

“Oh, on the contrary, it is worth it.” He said as an evil grin spread across his face and he pulled the trigger. The loud “bang” of the gun echos throughout the canyon.

I watched as Chloe’s eyes widened in shock before her body fell backwards and over the cliff.

“No!!!!” I shouted as I ran towards her.

Vincent had ran passed me and tackled Troy. I could hear the sickening sound of flesh being torn, but I couldn’t care less about that right now. My mate was all I could think about.

I felt two sets of hands grab ahold of me before I jumped over the cliff after her. They held me back as I watched her body hit the water and disappear into the depths.

“Let go of me!” I demanded.

“No, we’ll replace another way down to the river. Jumping is suicide.” Xander said firmly but I could hear the pain in his voice.

“We need to replace her. She’s still alive.” I pleaded.

I would have felt the bond break if she had died. Almost at the exact moment those thoughts crossed my mind, it hit me. The most excruciating pain I had ever felt. It was like someone had torn my heart right out of my body. I instantly fell to the ground and clutched my chest. It can’t be, she can’t be dead.

I knew what I was feeling and I didn’t want to believe it. Our bond, it was broken. My wolf was howling in pain. He had also felt the bond snap.

“Get some warriors down to the river and replace her!” I barely heard Xander command before the pain from my broken heart consumed me and darkness took over.
