Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 85: You have some explaining to do

Chloe POV

After Max and Jo left our room we took another shower before getting dressed and headed downstairs. I was anxious to see everyone and their reactions when they saw that I was still alive.

Knox held onto my hand tightly as we descended the stairs.

“Are you ready?” He asked and I nodded. My heart was beating fast. It was 5:30pm and I knew the dining hall would be full at that time.

Knox guided me through the doors and as soon as I stepped into the room everything went silent. I heard several shocked gasps amongst the crowd.

“Oh my Goddess, how is this possible?” Was heard from a few different people in the room.

“Listen up everyone, as you can see your Luna is still very much alive and here with us. She was saved by a couple rogues after she was shot and they nursed her back to health. She came home to us today after waking up from a coma. I know everyone is excited to see her, but please give her a little space, she’s been through a lot.” Knox announced.

“Yes Alpha.” Several pack members replied.

“Luna, I think I can safely say this on behalf of everyone here. Welcome home.” One of the warriors stated with a genuine smile on his face before the room erupted in applause.

“Thank you, I’m so happy to be back.” I replied with my own smile.

“As you were.” Knox announced and everyone went back to eating and chatting amongst themselves.

“How is this possible?” I heard a familiar voice ask from somewhere behind me.

I turned around and found Connie with her hand covering her mouth. She had tears streaming down her cheeks.

“The Moon goddess was watching over me.” I told her softly.

“That she was, that she was.” Connie replied before wrapping me in her arms. I returned the hug by wrapping my own arms around her.

“Your father is going to be beside himself when he replaces out.” She said excitedly.

“Where is he? I’m dying to see him again.” I asked, while scanning the crowd for any signs of him.

“Mmmmm… He’s looking after something for me on another territory. We will go see him tomorrow, I promise.” Knox replied nervously. I could tell he was keeping something from me by the way he was acting.

“What territory?” I asked with furrowed brows.

“I’m drawing a blank, I can’t remember the name of the pack.” Knox replied trying to look deep in thought. I knew he was lying to me, but decided not to push it. Obviously there was a reason why he didn’t want to tell me and I would play along with his little game, for now.

“You made it! I wasn’t sure if Knox was going to let you leave that room.” Max said as she walked into the dining hall and joined us.

“Of course I came. There’s not a lock in this world strong enough to keep a determined Max out. If I didn’t show up you would have dragged me down here anyway.” I joked and she shrugged her shoulders admittedly.

“Oh my goddess, Chloe, you’re alive.” I heard a squealing Tessa and turned my head just in time to see her running towards me before jumping into my arms.

“How is it possible?” Jag asked in a shocked tone as he following close behind her.

“She’ll explain everything, let’s take a seat first.” Knox suggested and everyone nodded.

We went and took a seat at the head table. Throughout dinner some of the pack members came over to greet me. They all seemed extremely happy that I was back. It was actually really heartwarming to know how much I was missed.

Now that everything was finally behind us, I could focus more of my time and attention on getting to know everyone better.

“I’m dying to hear about your first death experience? What was it like? Who saved you? Where have you been staying for the last week and half?“ max asked, blurting out question after question. Everyone chuckled but waited patiently for me to answer them.

I told them everything that happened, starting from the moment I was shot, till the moment I woke up in the cave. I told them about Toby and Freda and everything they did to save me. Everyone listened intently as I told my story.

“Wow, that’s crazy. I still can’t believe you actually died and came back to life. That’s like straight out of a movie kind of thing.” Max mumbled, but more to herself.

“But Chloe, what happened that night? The night the pack was attacked? Why did you and Max end up going South by yourselves?” Jag asked and the question made me think back to that night. I immediately frowned, there was one thing about that night that didn’t sit well with me. It was Veronica, she reported being attacked, but it wasn’t adding up in my head. Why was she outside in the first place? I had ordered everyone to remain in the pack house.

“That night, Veronica came up to me and said that she was attacked in the South, that the attackers were closing in on the pack house. Max and I wanted to make sure they didn’t make it to the bunker, so we went out to help our warriors. Turns out most of our men had gone to help in the North and by the time we reached the South, the few warriors that were left were sadly already dead.” I replied and everyone was silent for a moment. It was heartbreaking to think of all the lives lost that night. It should have never happened in the first place.

“Interesting…” Connie stated looking deep in thought.

“What is it, mother?” Knox asked.

“I’m sure it’s nothing, but after I locked everyone in the bunker, I noticed that Veronica was covered in b***d. I was worried about her, so asked to see her wounds. She said she didn’t have any and that she was tending to an injured warrior that’s how she got covered in b***d.” Connie stated and my b***d started to boil. Why would she have lied to me about being attacked?

“I didn’t know about the Veronica part. Do you think she intentionally sent us to the South?” Max asked with a frown.

“I’m not sure, but I know how I’m going to replace out.” I replied as I abruptly stood from my chair.

“Where are you going?” Knox asked sounding concerned.

“There’s someone I need to have a chat with.” I replied as I made my way towards the kitchen.

Veronica was still on Omega duties and would more than likely be in the kitchen helping with the dinner rush. I heard several foot steps behind me and knew that everyone from our table had followed me.

I pushed the kitchen door open roughly causing everyone inside to jump in surprise. My eyes scanned the kitchen till I found the person I was looking for. Her eyes went wide when they locked with mine. I could see the fear swirling within them and knew by the look on her face that she had set me up. She had that very obvious guilty look.

I stalked towards her like a true predator. Tatiana was pushing forward wanting to take control. We nearly died because of this b***h. We both wanted to end her.

“L-Luna, y-you’re a-alive.” She stuttered.

I didn’t reply right away, instead I grabbed her by the throat and slammed her into the closest wall. Hard enough that I heard a crack and knew her head had broken through the wood.

“You have some explaining to do, Veronica.” I gritted out.

“W-What d-do you m-mean?” She asked, playing dumb.

“What do I mean?” I scoffed.

“Why the hell did you send me to the South that night?” I asked, anger lacing my words.

“I-I don’t k-know what y-you’re…” She started but I squeeze her throat tighter, cutting off her airway.

“Chloe, what’s going on?” Knox asked sounding concerned.

“You wanted to replace out who your dirty little rat is? Here you go, ask her yourself who tipped off Cameron.” I replied, never taking my eyes off Veronica. The fear seeping from her pores was suffocating.

I loosened my grip on her throat just enough so she could once again breath.

“Tell him, Veronica. You knew exactly what was waiting for me in the South. Didn’t you?” I spat out the question.

“I-I d-don’t know w-what…” she started and I pulled my other fist back before slamming it into her face.

“Lie to me again and it will be the last words to leave your mouth.” I warned in a dangerously calm tone.

“Fine! I did set you up, but I didn’t think they were going to kill you. I swear.” She said in between sobs.

“I would shred you to pieces right here and now for that betrayal, but that would be too easy. I want you to spend the rest of your life locked away in a dark, cold cell with nothing but your own thoughts.” I stated, only inches away from her face.

“Please, I didn’t think they were going to hurt you.” She begged.

“Take her to the dungeon.” I heard Knox command from somewhere behind me before two warriors stepped forward and grabbed ahold of Veronica. They dragged her off as she screamed and pleaded for my forgiveness. She must have been on crack if she thought I would forgive her after what she did.

“Well s**t. I think you’ve been hanging out with me for too long, that was straight up savage.” Max stated with an amused smirk on her face.

“I had a feeling in my gut that she was involved, but when I saw the fear on her face when she first saw me, it only confirmed my suspicion.” I replied.

“I can’t believe she would do that. Yet again, I’ve had that thought a lot lately.” Connie stated.

“Are you ok?” Knox asked with a frown.

“Better now that we’ve handled that problem.” I admitted.

“Handled? Hell ya, you handled that like a boss.” Jo said with a big grin on his face.

“Seriously, can you teach me how to throw a punch like that?” Tessa asked with wide eyes, clearly still shocked by what happened.

“Of course.” I replied with a chuckle.

“Well guys, I think that’s enough excitement for one day. I’m going to take Chloe up to bed.” Knox announced.

“Awww… Not yet, I have so many more questions about the after life and stuff.” Max pouted.

“She can tell you all about it when we go visit the… I mean visit Vincent.” Knox said and I didn’t miss his little word fumble. What was he hiding from me.

“You mean at the …” Max started and Jo covered her mouth with his hand, preventing her from finishing her sentence.

“What are you hiding?” I asked, while looking at Knox with pinched eyes.

“You’ll see.” He replied and I saw his lips twitch upward. What ever he was hiding he seemed excited about it. I guess it was some kind of surprise. Now I’m dying to replace out. What would my father have to do with it?

“Let’s go to bed.” Knox stated as he wrapped his arms around my waist and guided me towards the door.

“Goodnight guys, see you tomorrow.” I said and everyone said goodnight back.

We left the dining hall and headed toward our room. I was completely exhausted after today. I still couldn’t believe that Veronica would set me up like that. I guess she really held a grudge after Kyle was killed and Knox turned her down. She definitely learned something tonight and that was not to mess with me.
