Rose’s POV

07:04

After leaving Lydia to rest and freshen up in her room, I took some time to do the same by having a quick shower and changing in to something more comfy.

It was an opportunity for me to clear my head, as the events of the day had left me emotionally drained and shattered–something I hadn’t at all prepared for leading up to visiting her at the salon.

I wanted to be strong for Lydia, to help her through this as some sort of new friend, but it was challenging to push away my own self doubt – what if I’m not strong enough to comfort and help her in the way that she needs?

I can barely take care of myself…

As I stood under the warm water of the shower, I let the steaming droplets cascade over me, washing away the tension in my muscles as I sigh heavily. The pack house had a way of making me feel safe, and I knew that Lydia was in good hands here.

Once I had showered and changed into my comfortable outfit, I made my way to Lydia’s room. I wanted to check on her and see how she was doing after the emotional turmoil she had been through. I knocked gently on her door and, after receiving a soft response, I entered willingly….

Lydia was sitting on the edge of the bed, dressed in the fresh clothes I had brought down for her earlier, and her hair was still slightly damp from her shower

She already looked much better, regardless of her wounds still showing through. Lydia looked a bit more relaxed now compared to before, and I couldn’t help but smile at the sight of her. “Feeling a little better?” I asked as I approached, earning a small sigh

She nodded, offering me a small but genuine smile. “Yes actually, thank you, Rose. Your kindness really does mean the world to me right now… nobody has ever went to this length to help me.” She trails off sadly.

I take a seat beside her, our shoulders touching lightly. “You don’t have to thank me, really. We can look out for each other around here. You’re part of this pack and so am I now.” I nod firmly, trying my best to be helpful.

As we sat there, the conversation shifted into a more personal direction, and I felt an urge to share my own experiences. It was almost as if Lydia’s presence had opened a door I had long kept locked, and now, I felt the need to unburden myself to someone who might just fully understand…

“If you don’t mind me asking

g Rose… why did you move to our pack? I haven’t seen you around here before now?” Lydia questions gently, shifting slightly to get a little bit more comfortable in the process.

I took a deep breath, my heart pounding as I prepared to reveal a part of myself I had hidden away since arriving here.

It was hard to explain, but I really did feel like a true imposter being here sometimes…..

Almost as though I was living a lie..

at my old pack, I… I wasn’t treated very well.” I begin, as Lydia’s lips part slightly in shock.

“R–Really? You? I can’t even in

it even imagine!” Lydia

gasps, as I chuckle dryly.

If only the would have seen me before I got here… she would understand then why they hated me!

“It’s true… I was taken in as a young child there, and they practically jumped at the chance to make me in to a little servant for them… even at a young they just didn’t care for me at all, nobody did!” I bite my lip slightly to stop it from quivering, as Lydia nods and urges for me to continue on.

“My given rotse was Tragedy. That was seriously my real name back there. Ashton was the one who changed it when I had first arrived here… he was the one who decided to name me Roar! I explalii, as Lydia follows along with my story – her eyes growing wider at my woul

in beat

Lydia face filled with sympathy as she listened, before she reached out to place a comforting hand on my shoulder. That’s terriblet I’m so sorry to hear about how badly you were treated before, Rose. You fit in so much better ansund here anyway!” Lydia comments, as I susile alightly at her words,

I nod, my throat tight with the memories. “I lived with that name for years, enduring hardships and cruelty every single day. But then, everything changed when I met Alpha Ashton. He really did save me from my old life, I was pretty much thrown out and left for dead before he took me in.” I rub my arm, feeling a slight chill creep up on mi

Lydia’s curiosity was piqued. “If you don’t mind me asking… how did you end up here? What made you leave your old pack and come to this one instead?” Lydia speaks her thoughts and asks me.

A bittersweet smile tugged at the corners of my lips as I recalled the very day that I had left that dreadful pack only weeks ago.

“I left because of my ex–mate, Derrick Colt. He was set to be my mate, but he rejected me only seconds after locking eyes with me, claiming that I was an insult to him. I was then banished from the land which meant that I didn’t have much time to leave or else they would have hunted me down as a rogue to kill me.” I clear my throat, fighting back the tears that threaten to build in my eyes.

What?! That is awful! I’m so sorry!” Lydia covers her mouth and gasps loudly, as I shake my head and wave her off

It wasn’t her fault… it was Derricks… and his whole pitiful pack who treated me badly…..

“You see, Derrick was the soon–to–be Alpha, and his decision was final. He’s a proud man Lydia, far too proud to consider a runt maid to be his mate.”1 scoff and roll my eyes, as Lydia shakes her head at my words.

*So, you came here all on your own after that?” Lydia pushes on, as I nod and shrug slightly.

“Yeah that’s right. I hopped on a random train and ended up here, not knowing where else to go. Ashton thankfully took me in and gave me a chance at a new life and a fresh start here. He’s a great Alpha, which is why I’m certain that he will stop at nothing to help you out too!” I confirm my words with

a nod.

Lydia’s face softened, and she squeezed my shoulder in understanding. You’ve been through so much, Rose. But I’m glad that we met. Especially now. I really needed this time to think and talk things out with somebody who really gets it. Lydia sighs, as I offer her a smile.

“Can I tell you another secret?” I test, as she nods eagerly and perks up at my ask

Lydia leans forward ever so slightly, intrigued to hear mate. “Of course! What is it?”

Taking a deep breath, I finally confessed, “Lydia, Ashton and L.. we’ve mated… only recently though! But I’m going to be introduced to the pack tomorrow as his new mate.I whisper, as though somebody might hear.

Lydia’s eyes widen, and her jaw drops down in utter surprise. “You’re… you’re going to be my new Luna? That’s incredible! You’ll be perfect for this pack!” She practically squealed, her earlier fears and worries momentarily forgotten as I chuckle at her genuine response.

I liked her….

I couldn’t help but laugh at her enthusiasm, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. “I’m glad that you’re happy about it, Lydia. It means a lot. I seriously don’t know what to think or feel about it all. I’m just grateful for the fresh start.” I conclude, as Lydia nods in understanding.

“Rose, that’s seriously wonderful news! I can’t wait to see you as our Luna. You’ll be amazing. I’m sure of it, despite us having only just met! I just know already that you’re a good person.” Lydia compliments, as I almost push at her words.

Her genuine happiness for my news was contagious, and I found myself smiling more genuinely than I had in a long long time.

Was this the s

start of my first ever friendship with a girl my own age? Somebody

y to share secrets

Is with? 5

Somebody to laugh with? Freally do hope so…

I had already opened up to Lydia about my past, and instead of judgment or pity, I found support and friendship.

As we continued talking about random stuff, using anything as a distraction for Lydia, the door to the room creaked open slightly, and Ashton’s voice broke into our conversation. “I’m sorry to interrupt you ladies, but dinner is waiting for you both.” Ashton states, as I stand up pulling Lydia up with

The food here is like no other!” I tell her confidently, as we both follow behind Ashtons large strides towards the dining hall.

was now quiet and free of any lingering staff, which meant that we could all relax and move around a little more freely.

Lydia es brightened at the suggestion, as she nodded eagerly. “That sounds good. Im starving She comments, as I nad in agreement.

Lydia seemed a bit overwhelmed by the attention, but she smiled in return. “Thank you, Alpha Ashton, for allowing me to share a dinner with you bonh tonight.“ Lydia tells him gratefully, as he waves her off.

“No need to thank me.” He states, as I smile at him for making the effort to comfort her during her time here at his home.

As we took our seats and got comfortable, I couldn’t help but notice Lydia’s reaction to the grandeur of the dining hall.

The room was adorned with elegant decorations, and the long table was set with an array of Mexican dishes, from tacos and nachos to enchiladas and more. The chefs had outdone themselves, and the feast before us was a sight to behold.

Lydia’s eyes widened in awe as she looked around, clearly not accustomed to such opulence that the Alpha had day in and day out.

I relayed to Lydia more than she knew…

We tucked into the dishes, as I refrained from moaning aloud at the bursts of flavour exploding in my mouth after each bite!

This was seriously all I had hoped for… to make a female friend my own age and to have Lydia over for a nice dinner… despite the circumstances before hand.

The conversation flowed easily as we continued to serve ourselves from the delicious spread,

Ashton made small talk, asking Lydia about her interests and sharing stories about the pack. Lydia, still somewhat reserved, answered his questions politely but didn’t reveal too much about herself

“Lydia, I wanted to ask if there’s anything you need or if there are belongings you’d like for us to retrieve from your home. We want you to be comfortable here.”

Lydia paused, her fork hovering over her plate as she considered the offer. After a moment, she shook her head. “No, Alpha, I don’t actually think there’s anything I need from there. I just want to put that part of my life behind me at least for tonight. Anything important to me is kept in the salon

anyway.

Ashton nodded in understanding, a look of determination in his eyes. “Of course, Lydia. We’ll make sure that you’re safe here.”
