Like a stubborn pest that refused to die, that bitch would come back for the 101st time after 100 rejections. And this time, instead of a seductive scheme, she confessed honestly. She was hellbent on getting Colin.

I was mad. Her invitation to Colin to celebrate her birthday together was just the latest entry in her plan to take him from me. She had a naturally meek voice. And together with the heartfelt confession she uttered just now, she sounded vulnerable and fragile.

Especially the croaky voice toward the end. It sounded as if she was on the verge of tears. I would have felt bad for her if I hadn't known the full picture. None of the toxic men in the world could resist the urge to protect her.

The voice message lasted for around 50 seconds. When it ended, everyone at the dining table reacted differently.

Queenie was furious. Unable to vent her fury, she took the bread and bit a huge chunk of it. I assumed she was pretending that the bread was Jasmine and she was tearing her off with her teeth. Andrew, while young, was surprisingly calm.

He heard the whole confession and dismissed it casually. The corners of his eyes glanced at the phone screen. He grimaced, pretending to be puking. Queenie laughed out loud. She smiled from ear to ear like a vindicated heroine.

Colin, on the other hand, had the most amusing reaction. He didn't know Jasmine would confess to him over the phone and didn't anticipate I'd play it out loud in public. Three out of the four people present balked at the message, but none expressed their concerns about his situation.

Different emotions flashed on his face. The throbbing vein on his temples told me that he was about to lash out. He should lash out. I wanted him to lash out at Jasmine.

I figured I should return his phone and let him decide how to reply. However, I changed my mind. Didn't he say just now that he'd let me handle it? Fine. I would reluctantly get rid of this bitch for my boyfriend. It was my fault that he was in this mortifying situation, after all.

Now, this was my comeback.

"Sorry, Jasmine, Colin never hides anything, so I accidentally heard your confession. I'm so happy that someone else loves him as much as I do. In fact, I don't think that age differences will bring about more conflicts. I do have a tantrum, but that's because Colin indulges me. It can't be helped.

"And I must say, it feels good to be pampered by my boyfriend. Once you replace a boyfriend, Jasmine, you'll know what I mean. By the way, Colin and I are going strong. We might have a few quarrels here and there, but we'll be together till the end of time.

"Why? Because Colin won't let me leave him. You're a recovering patient, Jasmine, yet you're worried if Colin is well taken care of. You offered your service, and I thank you for that. Colin and I will remain stronger than before."

I used a sickening, cloy voice to talk to her to show that I, too, could be a hypocritical, backstabbing bitch like her. Maybe I wasn't as good as her, but I added my own twist to it.

"Oh, Jasmine, since it's your birthday tomorrow, Colin and I will be there to celebrate it with you. What do you like, Jasmine? Tell me and I'll buy you a birthday present."
