He walked toward me and kissed my cheek. "You're so pretty, babe. I have a present for you. Close your eyes."

"But I want to see you take it out."

Colin kissed between my eyes and coaxed, "Be a good girl and close your eyes."

I couldn't say no to his cajoling. He smelled so good too. I snuggled in his embrace and closed my eyes obediently. I felt something touching my ears. When I opened my eyes, I found myself wearing a pair of brand-new earrings.

Pearls dangled from them. Be it the color or the texture, they looked so good with my dress. I had just thought that matching earrings would look good on me after I put on the dress.

And somehow, Colin could read my mind. He had already bought the matching earrings. I didn't even know when or how he got them for me. Urgh, I was so lucky. So many people pampered me, including Colin and my parents.

"Colin..." I croaked, a catch in my throat. My voice was as sweet as honey, and my eyes turned glossy. I was blushing.

He gave me a peck on my cheeks and eyes, the areas I had yet to apply makeup to. Then, tenderly, he uttered, "My little dummy, you're my girlfriend. We can read each other's minds. Of course, I know what you want."

"Huh? You can read my mind?" I asked gingerly, worried that he had read all the little thoughts I had about him.

He pinched my nose playfully and said, "No, this is called telepathy."

I once asked him much later how he obtained the power of telepathy.

He told me that when one revolved one's world around another person to the point that one only ever saw the other person in one's world, the other person's thoughts and demands would be conveyed to one's mind instantaneously.

I supposed telepathy was the pinnacle of a romantic relationship.

As Colin had expected, Jasmine shed her image of an ordinary girl next door and held her birthday party at the event hall in the most luxurious hotel in Jinovy. The theme was purity and innocence.

The venue was huge. I could tell that she had spent a fortune to secure the venue. I wonder how she managed to oversee the whole thing herself. The world of the rich was often enigmatic to poor people like

me.

Unfortunately for her, as an art student, I found it incongruous and ironic to adorn majestic decorations with cute trinkets.

Perhaps she stubbornly chose to bring out a certain vibe, thinking that it would change a certain perception of her. But all the decorations ever achieved was backfiring on her. I shook my head and lamented. She had ruined the beauty of such a classy hotel.

Maybe the rich secretly loved to spend money to turn an art piece into something gaudy. Colin tilted his head and looked at me, his lips puckering up. He perused the venue and shook his head disapprovingly

too.

When we arrived, there were already a lot of people in the event hall. Some of them approached and greeted Colin. Colin was startled at first, but then he began engaging in casual chit-chat with them.
