64- Silence and sass

Bellamy sighs and takes me by the hand. He leads me to the living room and sits on the couch, dragging me to sit next to him.

“I don’t want to argue. Let’s talk about this properly.” He insists. I sigh and nod my agreement.

“I just really don’t think I need them.” I start. Bellamy nods.

“I understand that. But I can’t trust that you’re safe when I can’t see you. I might be overreacting, Iprobably am. But my sister was just nearly killed by her fiancé and that was in a room full of peoplewho care about her. Someone has already threatened you once and I’m on edge. I can’t stand the ideaof leaving you unprotected. I have plenty of enemies and while people might not really know about usyet they’re still a threat to you. I couldn’t live with myself if something happened to you because of me.”It’s really hard to hold firm to my argument after his confession, I’m wavering and I know it. I try not tocompletely give up.

“Surely we can come to some kind of compromise? What about something like what Megan has whereshe only has a guard when she goes out?” I suggest. Bellamy scrunches up his face

and shakes his head.

“Your home isn’t as safe as it is here.” He complains. I sigh.

“I’m trying here Bellamy, give me something.” We fall into a contemplative silence for a few minutes. When Bellamy finally answers me his tone is begrudging.

“I suppose you could have a guard during the daytime only if your home was safer. Security windows, abetter lock and an alarm system so that it’s properly secure. I could have the guys set it up.” He

responds. I think for a moment. It’s not the worst compromise, if an alarm and a better lock will makehim feel secure then it’s not really that much of a problem for me.

“I would be okay with that, as long as Maggie approved it of course, it is her building.” I agree. Bellamysmiles at me.

“I’ll have it installed today. I’ll talk to her myself if I have to.” He pulls me into a tight hug

and I relax against his chest.

“Thankyou for putting up with this.” He mumbles into my hair. I pull back and sigh.

“Just don’t make me regret it.”

Bellamy calls Aaron to come pick me up then steps into his office and begins making calls, I assume toarrange my new security system. I head back up to Megan’s room to get my shoes and bag. It takesme a few minutes because I can’t seem to replace one of my socks anywhere. Eventually I replace it on thefloor underneath Megan’s discarded pyjamas. Finally dressed I briefly borrow Megan’s hairbrush andrun it through my hair before heading back downstairs. Aaron is already waiting. Bellamy is already inhis office on a call. He holds out an arm for me and I give him a hug and a quick kiss on the cheekbefore I step away. I can’t help but make at quick glance at Aaron who is waiting for me in the hall. Helooks unsurprised. He gives me his arm as we head out to the car in silence. I ask him to take mestraight home. I want to shower and change my clothes before I worry about shopping and cleaning. The drive is comfortably silent. I’m still not sure I’m completely happy with the while securityarrangement, but that’s now Bellamy’s life is and since I want to be part of it I should try and acceptwhat I can. I don’t think he’s completely happy with our compromise either so I guess that means it’s

successful? I do think that maybe I need to think about ways Bellamy can fit into my life as well so Idon’t have to feel as weird about shoving my way into his. Or being. dragged into his, honestly I’m noteven sure what’s happening. A lot had changed in a short amount of time. Bellamy comes with a hugeamount of extras; family, friends, responsibilities. I’ve only ever really been responsible for myself. I dobelieve I can handle it all, but maybe not all at once. Figuring out an acceptable security arrangement isan okay start, maybe next we can work out a routine that we both replace comfortable. As much as I enjoyspending time at the Kane household, I do have my own home and responsibilities. I

need to take a break sometimes.

Aaron parks the car and wordlessly offers me his arm as I climb out. I take it and we begin the hike upthe stairs to my front door. I unlock it and invite Aaron in behind me. “Feel free to take a seat orwhatever, i’d say grab a drink or something but I have literally nothing. I need to go shopping after I’vegotten myself cleaned up a bit.” I hesitate a moment then turn to face him properly, my face is probablyburning red.

“Also… I’m sorry about the last few months. I was upset and I made you stay outside while you werejust doing your job. It was unkind of me.” I apologise. Aaron gives me a nod and look that night mean‘No problem you don’t even need to apologise‘ or it might mean ‘really

you think that lame apology is going to make that up to me?” Okay so I don’t actually know what it’smeant to mean. I know if I ask he will probably answer but I’m not sure I want to know. I’ll just have tobe extra nice to him from here on out to make up for my awful behaviour before. I’m about to step intomy room when Aaron clears his throat behind me. I pause and look back over my shoulder. Aaron

gestures to one of the chairs at my little table. He wants me to sit. I approach it curiously and he pulls itout for me to sit. As soon as I do, he takes the other seat across from me. I wait to see what he wants.

“With your approval I have requested to become your permanent guard.” He states. His voice is quietand assured. I’m shocked.

“You… you want to do this permanently?” I question. Aaron nods. I chew my lip and tilt my

head.

“Did you need to ask Bellamy? I mean he’s your Alpha, it’s up to him isn’t it?” Aaron nods

again.

“Alpha Kane approved.” He answers.

“Oh, well okay then. If you want to then I’m okay with it. I think you’re the only guard that doesn’tconstantly address me as ‘Miss Gale‘ every two seconds. Probably because you barely ever talk, butit’s definitely a nice change, it freaks me out when you guys are all… obedient?” I smile at him. Aaron’sface doesn’t change, he nods again and I get up to go shower.

“I won’t be long then we can go get some actual supplies for this house, make yourself at home.” As Iclose my bedroom door I think I hear Aaron respond.

“Of course Miss Gale.” I swing the door open and stare at him suspiciously. Aaron is still sitting where Ileft him, looking at me blankly, no sign of having spoke. I close the door again. but either I’m imaginingthings or Aaron is sassing me. I can’t help but laugh.
