Never had I imagined that the easygoing, decisive Zara could be blinded by love. She forsook her own dignity for a man who didn't even love her. I was so mad that I slapped my knees out of frustration. "And you know what? Faye then claimed that she felt sick and threw herself into Chris' embrace. That fucker then abandoned everyone and sent her to the hospital. He was missing for three whole days. Zara called and texted him, but he never replied.

"Can you imagine how mad I was? I was there. If my mom hadn't stopped me, I would've kicked and slapped Chris to death."

I felt the same too. A toxic boyfriend like him should be slapped and kicked away. He should be locked away with his shameless childhood friend so that they would not pollute the dating pool.

"Zara broke up with him, yeah? Good. She doesn't need a man who stood her up during an important talk about their marriage."

"Chris sent Faye to the hospital, and the doctor said that she was allergic to the fabric she was wearing. He suggested she change into full cotton clothes. Guess what Chris did?"

"Don't tell me he helped her get changed too."

"Mhm, not only did he buy a cotton dress for her, but he even helped her get changed, including changing her undergarments."

I was furious. I wish I could kick Faye off a cliff. Why would he do that to Zara? Beneath his bespectacled and gentlemanly look, he had a wicked soul. He was a playboy. People like him should be thrown away or be fed to the wolves!

"Thank God that happened. Otherwise, Zara would still be stuck with him. It'd be too late to regret it if she married him. It's not worth it to spend your life with a man like that."

"I know, but Zara is devastated. Chris never liked, her so he's happy to be rid of her. Due to her heartbreak, Zara lost so much weight and looks like a zombie. I feel so sorry for her."

Upon knowing why Zara broke up with Chris, I felt more sorry for her than mad. Her devotion to him in the past few years was all for nothing.

"Chris will regret it."

"Does it matter? He has truly hurt Zara's feelings. No matter how hard he tries to redeem himself, Zara is not going back to him."

"I sure hope so. Zara, that poor girl."

"She's taking the breakup badly. But I'm sure she'll get through it in time."

"I think so too."

Zara's breakup cast gloomy clouds over my mood. I lost my appetite and only took a few bites of the soup. After absentmindedly poking at it, it had become a mess, just like Zara's previous relationship.

They could never return to the way they were before. Fortunately, it was a breakup, not a divorce. After

talking t&Jade over the phone, it et

was time for my afternoon class. I rushed back to the classroom and promptly forgot to ask Zara about Winston. Urgh, how forgetful of me.

Colin came home early that night. He told me that talks for the new project would begin in early December. Till then, he would be free and would spend those days hanging out with me. He said we could go on dates or visit my parents in Southsville.
