Chapter 77

In a flash, another hand shot out, catching Shane’s wrist mid–air.

Shane scowled at the interruption, his voice edged with annoyance. “What are your doing here?”

Yara’s voice was barely above a whisper. “Professor Shelton, why are you-

She nearly broke down.

Wade looked at her, concern etched on his face. “You okay?”

Yara managed a nod. “Yeah.” Her voice betrayed her, thick with unshed tears.

Yeah, right.

Wade said, “My car’s just over there. Need a lift?”

“Sure, that’d be great. Thanks.”

As Wade wrapped an arm around her, ready to walk away, Yara felt like a pebble teetering on a cliff’s edge, about to tumble into the abyss. With Wade’s arrival, though, she finally found solid ground.

*Professor Shelton, why are you here?”

A swanky hotel was next to the estate, where he was attending a conference. He had stepped out for a breather and stumbled upon the scene.

“I had a conference,” he said.

“Hold on-” Shane hurried after them. “Wade, you lost or something? The conference is next door. This is my place.”

Wade stopped, and so did Yara.

Shane said, “She’s my guest. I’ll take care of her. No need for you to step in,

Professor.

Wade turned, his gaze cool as he looked at Shane. “Did you even ask her what she wanted?”

Without missing a beat, Yara said, “I’m going with Professor Shelton.”

Shane was left speechless. “Yara…”

Wade said, “Let’s an

With a nod, Yara agreed.

“Freeze!” Yale could not hold back as he faced Yara and the two guys, who were all mixed up in this mess.

“Yara, where do you think you’re off to?”

“Home.”

“Right. To this guy’s place, huh?” Yale jabbed a finger at Wade, his voice dripping with

scorn.

“Is that it? You can’t stand being alone? Were you already messing around behind my back before we split?

“Yara, you’ve outdone yourself! I get it now. You walked away so easily because you had your next victim lined up? You didn’t even spare my friends. You’re sickening!“.

Fury clouded Yale’s judgment, and he only wanted to shame that ungrateful, fickle woman as harshly as he could.

He glared at Shane and Wade. “You’re fighting over my leftovers? Really? Is she worth it?”

Yara shook uncontrollably, each word from Yale cutting into her like a knife, her heart. bleeding out.

It turned out that when the pain was too much, all she was left with was numbness.

Her red and swollen eyes locked onto Yale’s twisted face. Her teeth chattered in the cold, and her whole body felt like it had been dunked in an ice bath. For a second, she almost lost all feeling.

Wade’s brow furrowed as he watched Yara’s delicate form shivering in the biting. wind, looking like she might fall over with just a nudge.

“I thought that after six years, what we had was real. But now, I see just how little I meant to you.” Her voice was low, broken by sobs, and a bitter smile played on her lips.

“It turned out I chose wrong from the very beginning, and one wrong step led to another until I was past the point of no return…

Yale’s heart clenched as he took in her pale face, red eyes, and the tears that would not stop. It was like a blow to the head, leaving him gasping for air.

He fumbled with his words, his lips quivering as he tried to latch onto anything, but

no words came out.
