Axel POV

If looks could kill, I would be six feet under, I realize as I look at Philip. I cannot tell if he is glaring at me because Mandy told him the truth or because I managed to legally get Moonstone out of their contract.

I do know one thing; the feeling is mutual. The world would be a better place without him in it. I know he is behind this attack - he is the only one with a motive and a vendetta to go to such extremes.

It pains me to inform the clients about the attack without telling them Philip is responsible. I am not too fond of the idea that Philip thinks he has the upper hand. But my gut feeling is hardly proof. Philip is also blissfully unaware that I know about his activities, and I would like to keep it that way. The longer he sees me as clueless and harmless, the longer my family is safe.

Philip gives me an annoyed look when I smile at him and take out my phone. At least I can irritate him. It makes me feel better.

"Liana," I turn my back towards Philip and keep my voice low. "I need you to take my parents and Connor and get to safety. Moonstone is under attack, and I cannot guarantee that we're not next."

"That son of a b!tch," she exclaims. "It's Philip, isn't it?"

"I have no proof, but who else?" I sigh

"Don't worry about Clear Moon," she says adamantly. "I got this. I'll double the security at our borders and send guards your way. You get out of there alive."

"Thanks," I cannot contain my smile. She is no longer the scared little human I fell in love with. "But please don't join the fight. Our children need you, and so do I."

"I promise, I won't do anything stupid or reckless," she says before disconnecting the call and I groan inwardly. She did not promise to get to safety. But I trust her, she will not jeopardise anybody's safety - including her own.

"Ladies and gentlemen," I address the crowd. "May I please have your attention."

A soft murmur erupts as I inform them of the attack.

"For those of you who want to join the fight, you're more than welcome," I continue. "If not, please enjoy the food.

But you'll have to excuse me, I'm going to support Alpha Adele."

I am pleasantly surprised when more than half of our clients get up and take off their jackets. They all seem eager and excited. It has been decades since there was a pack war, and it is only the elder generations that have bragging rights on surviving an attack. I look at Philip and smirk as I take off my shirt. I am onto you, asshole.

Philip POV

It is with great annoyance that I watch the visiting alphas leave to join the attack. This is not what I had in mind. Hell, I do not care if they live or die but it irks me that Adele and Axel have so much support.

"We need to leave," I whisper to Mandy.

"Now that would be stupid," she rolls her eyes.

"That will instantly incriminate you."

"They already know it's me," I grunt. "Didn't you see the alphas joining them? It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure it out."

"Not everybody joined," she frowns.

"Because they're fvcking ancient," I hiss, grab her hand and storm outside.

"They're physically incapable. I am not sacrificing my men for nothing. I'm going to even the score and kill the alphas and you're going to help."

"Me?" She gasps flabbergasted. "I don't know the first thing about combat."

"This was your idea, sweetheart," I smirk. "So, buckle up."

Liana POV

Is everybody ready? I mind-link as I get into the car with Mike.

Yes, Luna, they reply in unison.

"Step on it," I ordered David and put on my safety belt.

"Alpha is not going to like this," Mike says softly as our convoy starts moving. "He would've wanted you to leave with his mother and Connor to a safe house."

"As long as I don't die, he'll be fine," I huff. "And I don't have any intention of dying. Besides, I have you to keep me alive.

"You can't shift," Mike argues.

"But I can shoot," I smirk and point to the crossbow on the backseat. "Stop arguing and drive faster. They need us."

Adele POV

I run as fast as I can towards the main gates. The metallic smell of blood is thick in the air and my heart pounds heavily in anticipation of what I will see when I get there.

Oh, dear goddess, I whimper when I stumble upon the first body. He is one of ours and practically still a boy. He turned eighteen a month ago and joined the guards last week. I nudge him with my snout and relief washes over me when he moans softly. Send EMTs to the main gates, I mind-link as I continue running.

It breaks my heart to leave him, but I have no choice. If we cannot stop the attack, there will be more bodies to mourn.

I pass a tree and see one of our wolves pinned to the floor.

His attacker is ready to finish him, and I leap forward. I sink my teeth into his neck and close my jaws with all my might before I yank viciously. The attacker yelps once before I snap his spine and toss him aside.

Alpha, I can't move, the wolf mind-links me in panic. Their paws are laced with wolfsbane, and I'll be paralysed until it wears off.

The situation is much more dire than I anticipated, I realise as I drag the wolf into the bushes to hide him. With one cut from the attackers, our guards are useless.

Avoid their claws, I mind-link the pack. Try to side-step and get onto their backs. It's your safest option.

A wolf storms at me and I apply my own advice. The second before he attacks, I jump to the side and bite into his hind leg. I master all my strength and swing his head into a tree before I jump on him and claw his throat open.

I turn around just in time to dodge another wolf. His claws miss me by inches, and I ready myself for his next move.

Out of nowhere, another wolf crushes into him from the side.

Axel! I recognise his wolf as they tumble in the dirt. I jump in and bite the first body part I can get hold of. The attacker howls in pain when I rip his ear off, and Axel silences his cries when he gashes his belly open.

The earth rumbles beneath my feet as a pack of wolves runs towards us. It is the alphas and their entourages. They are all here to help.

Quickly, I shift back and hold up my hand to stop them. "Beware of the paws," I yell. "It's laced with wolfsbane." They howl in reply and push past me towards the gates.

"Thanks, Axel," I smile before shifting back.

Stay in pairs, I mind-link my pack as Axel and I run. One distracts and the other attacks. And be on the lookout for our visitors. They're here to help.

It is absolute chaos when we reach the gates. Bodies are scattered and the ground is soaked in blood. Axel and I storm forward and kill a wolf before we move on to the next one. But it feels like for every wolf we kill, two more emerge.

I know we are fighting a losing battle, but I refuse to give up. Philip's pack is not much bigger than Moonstone, but they have the element of surprise, and they are eliminating our guards so fast with the wolfsbane, that we will never get ahead. It will not even help if the other alphas call for help - their packs are too far away. Clear Moon is the closest and our only hope for survival.

An arrow whooshes past me and I duck instantly. A wolf lands almost on top of me with a thud, an arrow right between his eyes. If it were not for the arrow, I would have been paralysed or dead.

Dumbstruck I turn towards the direction where the arrow came from, and my eyes widen when I see Liana. Only she knows how she can keep her balance while pregnant and standing in the passenger seat. She stuck her head and upper body through the sunroof and was already aiming at another wolf.

"Got you, fucker," she grins when she hits her target and reloads.

I turn to Axel and even in his wolf form, I sense his pride and admiration for his mate. I take only a second to rejoice in the fact that these are my friends before I bite into a wolf's leg. We might just win this after all.
