Selling Myself To The Alpha -
Chapter 167
Axel POV
"That was such an anti-****x," Adele complains as we watch Sheldon and his family board the plane. "I was ready to kick his a*s and then he just rolls over and surrendered."
"It's a tactic," I cross my arms in front of my chest. "He doesn't want to die."
"How do you figure that?" She looks at me surprised.
"Think about it," I look at her. "It's easier to forgive when you're not mad. When your child makes a mistake and he or she is defiant, it angers you more, and punishment comes easily. But when the child is remorseful and apologetic, your heart softens. Sheldon knows he's in trouble. Now he is cooperative and pleading for his children, hoping that we will show mercy."
"Diabolical," Adele shakes her head and reaches for her phone when it starts ringing.
"Hi, Rena," she answers the phone and walks away.
I close my eyes briefly and rub my forehead. It does not matter which tactic Sheldon tries, his fate is sealed but his wife and children.. what are we supposed to do with the children?
Sheldon is right about one thing - they are innocent and will be the ones paying the ultimate price for their father's sins.
"Good news from Rena," Adele smiles. "It was smooth sailing all the way and they have The Enforcer and his family. And Parker found the others. Within twenty-four hours, we will have all of them behind bars at Clear Moon." "Excellent," I smile at her. "Are you ready to board?"
"Fvck, no," she huffs. "But let's do it anyway."
Luther POV
Missy's restaurant is busy as always when I walk inside and request a table.
"Are you here to pester me about Reese?" Missy asks as she takes a seat. "Because if you are, I will spare you the effort and tell you to leave."
"That's not why I'm here," I smile. "Adele and Axel are busy locking up bad guys and seeing the uncertainty and fear on the children's faces... I couldn't stand it any longer. So, I hoped one of your deserts might cheer me up." "What are they going to do with them?" Missy asks sympathetically.
"The kids will go to family," I reply. "Fortunately, they all have a grandmother or aunt who is willing to take them in.
But it's not the same as your parents. Up till a moment ago, they were one happy family. The children didn't see this coming. They're scared and confused."
"That's tough," Missy agrees. "I remember how I felt when my mom died. I was suddenly alone in the world. Good people wanted to help and care for me, but it's not the same. It's not your mother."
"Any advice on how to make it easier for them?" I look at her hopeful.
"Some things in life cannot be fixed," she smiles sadly."
Those kids shouldn't stay at Clear Moon or Moonstone. If I were one of them, you'd be the last person I turn to. You're the ones tearing their family apart. They will never trust you. It doesn't matter if their parents are at fault. They did terrible things, but that didn't make them bad parents. And even if they were bad parents, they are the only parents those kids know. Were all the mothers involved?"
"Yes," I sigh heavily. "The wives knew what their husbands were doing. Hell, some of them even helped."
"Those kids will all need therapy," Missy says softly. "Not only to cope with the loss of their families but also to process the information that people who loved them, are capable of such atrocities. It's not an easy thing to learn your hero has flaws." "Tell me about it," I roll my eyes. "I idolised my father and I was a young adult when I learned the truth about him. He wasn't even a monster like The Enforcers, and I still can't forgive him."
"You should," Missy reaches over the table and takes my hand. "Being angry at the past is not helping anyone. Least of all, you."
"But look what it's done to you," I say. "You want to reject your mate because of him."
"To me, yes," she pulls back her hand. "Not to you. Blaming him isn't going to get either of us anywhere. If I hadn't clung to the past for so long, I would've been able to accept Reese. I would've been over my issues. We're adults, Luther, at one point we must stop blaming others and take control of our lives. Forgive him and learn from his mistakes. Be better and be happy."
"Are you going to practice what you preach?" I raise my elbows.
"I'm trying to," she sighs. "The point is, were all going to make a mistake at one point. You're going to fvck up with the significant other and your children and you're going to want them to forgive you. How can you expect forgiveness if you're unwilling to give it?" "So, you're going to accept Reese?" I ask hopefully. He is a good guy and I want her to be happy like I am with Adele.
"I haven't rejected him," she blushes slightly. "We're still talking and negotiating. I don't want him to resign. A true mate wouldn't expect such a sacrifice but it's going to take me a minute to wrap my mind around the fact that I must leave." "You're going to make an exceptional Luna," I smile lovingly at her.
Axel POV
"That's it," I exhale deeply and slump onto the couch in my office. "All The Enforcers and their accomplices are behind bars and ready for their punishment."
"Look at this," Liana hands me a document and sits down next to me. "A list of all the hunters from Fantasy Island.
Philip kept detailed records about everything. Even the names of all the women he fvcked and killed over the years."
"Idiot," I snort and page through the document. "Keeping incriminating details and records is just stupid."
"It's all about his ego," Liana shakes her head. "It's like he relived the event by documenting it. He even rated each occurrence according to pleasure and satisfaction. The more the victim struggled and cried, the higher the rating. It's more a journal than record keeping. He's truly a sick individual."
"Getting to the hunters isn't going to be easy," I frown and put the document aside. "Most of the hunters are rich humans, people will come looking for them. Not to mention that they're from all over the world."
"I would love to look them in the eye and take the time to kill them slowly," Liana sighs. "But I must be realistic. We need to attack from a distance. Like the anthrax letter attacks from 2001. We should consider a similar road."
"That's too risky," I shake my head. "Wives, secretaries, even their children could fall victim to such an attack. Not even to mention that people are using e-mails these days."
"I didn't say we should do exactly that," she rolls her eyes at me. "But we know who they are and where they live. We have Philip's computer and can send a mail from his address. The recipient won't breathe a word about it because he knows what Philip is about. All we need to do is make contact and be creative. Introduce them to an aggravated and poisonous scorpion or snake while they're sleeping in their hotel room. As long as it is indigenous to the area, none will be the wiser."
"That's going to take time and resources," I say as I overthink her words.
"We should make them pay for it," she says excitedly. "It's the perfect payback. We invite them to a special hunt in which they will pay a deposit. We can use that money to organise their demise."
"And if they decline the invitation?" I raise my eyebrows.
"According to their feedback, they're all dying to do it again," she grunts. "But if they decline, we go to them."
"Well," I pick up the document and look at the names with renewed interest. "My guards are always ready for new challenges. Let's hunt the hunters."
