Chapter 20
Five
Ada’s words hit me like a punch to the face. It feels like a boxer has physically knocked me back. All the air rushes out of my lungs, and I suddenly feel like crying. The old me would. But the new me? My wolf is snarling within my mind. My frustration is building up, replacing the sadness until all I want is to flip Ada off. Possibly even punch her.
“Ada,” Logan growls, his voice low and threatening. “You will keep your comments to yourself and not speak to your Alpha and his future Luna in a disrespectful way.”
“But-”
“Know your place,” I’ve never seen Logan this angry before. It’s usually Eric losing his temper, but it seems Logan is capable of being angry and overprotective too.
Am I terrible for replaceing it sexy? I know I should be a strong woman and independent and all of that shit. But having my mate be angry at my expense is oddly satisfying. Gosh, I’m so toxic. Yet I can’t help the thrill shooting through me.
“But you can’t mate with someone like her!” Ada exclaims, stomping her foot like a petulant child throwing a tantrum. Her eyes are sullen, and she is glaring at me with her lower lip jutting out far from her face. As if that will convince Logan to pick her instead of
- me.
“It’s not up for discussion,” Logan’s voice takes on a dangerous tone, the kind you don’t
want to mess with. The kind that makes you want to shrink back.
Ada, however, isn’t frightened. Her face contorts into a furious expression. “I’m not going to stand here while you pick the most pathetic mate possible! I hope you come to your senses before it’s too late,” she turns and storms away, her group of followers following her like sheep.

exhale in relief once Ada and her groupies are far from sight. It feels like someone just lifted a huge weight off my shoulders, and now I can breathe again.
“That was nerve–wracking,” Logan comments as he lowers his arm. He turns to me and
places his hand on my shoulder. “I’m sorry about that. I didn’t think she would react so badly to the news we are a thing.”
I crane my neck back in mock surprise, placing my hand over my chest as I gasp. “You mean to tell me you didn’t know Ada wanted to be your mate?”
He lets out a sad chuckle. “Most people in our pack want to be with me and Eric, because
we’re Alphas, not because of who we are. I don’t think Ada actually likes either of us; she
just wants the power of being an Alpha’s mate.”
Yikes. The idea never occurred to me until now, but it must be incredibly challenging to be an Alpha and not know whether someone is being sincere or if they are just using you for their gain. I suppose I was so focused on the struggles of being an Omega that I never
even considered the hardships that come with being at the top.
“Anyway, you ready for your seminar?” Logan’s eyes spark with mischief as he winks at me. “Think I can use my undeniable charm to make your professor let me sit beside you?”
I laugh at him, flexing his arm for fun, and shake my head. He is so seductive and fun–l
wouldn’t be surprised if he could coerce a thief into turning themselves in.
“Probably,” I say. “You’re eye candy and I bet my professor won’t mind having you inside
the lecture room.”
Logan grins, and we head inside the building hand in hand. As we walk, I can’t help but feel grateful for him actually trying to be a better person for my sake.
As we take our seats for the seminar, Logan sneaks a hand onto my thigh, and I can feel his warmth through the fabric of my thick jeans. I shoot him a warning look, but he just

The professor begins her lecture, and Logan’s hand starts to roam higher up my thigh. I can feel myself getting wet between my legs, and I shift in my seat, trying to ignore Logan’s wandering fingers.
Suddenly, he leans in close to me and whispers in my ear, “I can smell how wet you are for
me, baby. Do you want me to take care of that for you?”
I bite my lip, trying to maintain my composure. I want him to go further with me, but
that’s when I hear a silent gasp from a girl on my other side. Logan immediately sinks back
into his seat, and I hastily turn around to see a girl with glasses smiling radiantly at me.
Her face is beautiful in spite of the spots and blemishes that pepper her face. The gentle
waves of her black hair have a natural curl to them, and she is curvier than most girls I’ve
seen on campus. The color of her eyes is as dark as the hue of her skin, and I smell a faint hint of wolf. Yet, despite her being supernatural, I’ve never seen her before.
“I can’t believe I’ve found another werewolf so fast,” she whispers in an excited voice
while our professor is talking. I don’t mind the interruption. I stopped listening ages ago, and now my sole focus is on the black–haired girl with glasses that takes a seat beside me before shooting out her hand. “My name is Lexie. I’m new here.”
I shake her hand and introduce myself with a smile. “I’m Five. Nice to meet you, Lexie.”
As soon as we finish our pleasantries, Logan leans in and greets her, his charming smile in full effect. “Logan. A pleasure to meet you, Lexie.”
Lexie’s eyes light up at the sight of him, and I can’t blame her. Logan is a sight to behold with his chiseled jaw and sunkissed skin. The intensity of his dark gaze draws you in and locks you in its depths. Escape is impossible.
“So, what brings you to this seminar, Lexie?” I ask, trying to start a conversation and shake

off the lingering arousal that Logan’s earlier actions caused.

“I’m actually a transfer student, and I’m trying to catch up on some subjects,” she explains. “I heard this one was interesting, and I wanted to give it a shot.”
“Well, you came to the right place,” Logan chimes in, his voice smooth as silk. “Our professors ate this campus are the best in the business.”
The three of us continue to chat, and I can’t help but notice the way that Logan keeps sneaking glances at Lexie. It’s not like him to be so obvious, and I can’t help but feel a pang of jealousy.
As the seminar comes to an end, Lexie stands up and turns towards us. “Hey, do you guys want to grab lunch together? There’s a great falafel place a few blocks from here.”
Logan and I exchange a glance, and I can see the hunger in his eyes. “Sure, we’d love to,” he says, and I can’t help but feel another stab of jealousy pierce my heart.
Jesus. When did I become so suspicious all of a sudden?! I need to chill and relax.
“I could go for food,” I say. “I’m actually starving.”
We walk to the falafel place, the three of us chatting and laughing the whole way. I can’t
deny the chemistry between Logan and Lexie, but I push the thought to the back of my mind. I’m happy just to be spending time with them both.
Once we arrive, we order our food and take a seat outside. The sun is shining, and the
breeze carries the tempting scent of falafel. As we eat, the conversation flows easily between us. It’s clear that Lexie is smart and funny, and I can’t help but be drawn to her magnetic personality.
After we finish eating, Logan excuses himself and walk to the bathrooms of the place where we ordered the food. I’m left alone with Lexie, who is biting her lower lip. She looks

like she wants to ask me something.
I blurt out, “What?” my voice coming out a bit too sharp for the situation. It’s probably due to my insecurity. Logan and I have just started dating, and Lexie’s presence has me feeling threatened. I’m acting like a bitch.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” Lexie quickly says before adding, “I was just wondering if Logan was single. He is so handsome. The guy must be visiting the gym A LOT. And he smells good.”
I feel a pang of jealousy again, but this time I manage to suppress it. “Nah, he’s not single,” I say, trying to sound casual. “We’re actually seeing each other.”
Lexie’s eyes widen in surprise, and I can see her cheeks turning a bit pink. “Oh, I didn’t know. I’m sorry. You didn’t mention it.”
I shrug. “It’s no big deal. We’re still figuring things out, you know how it is.”
Lexie nods, but I can tell that there’s something else on her mind. “Can I ask you a personal question?” she says hesitantly.
“Sure, go ahead.”
She takes a deep breath. “Did I ruin my chances of making friends with you by being attracted to your boyfriend? Please say no. I didn’t know you were a thing!”
“It’s okay,” I say, “I understand. You didn’t know. It’s fine.” I pause to gauge her reaction. It
seems like she’s not done talking.
“But… I don’t want us to be on bad terms,” she says, looking down at her feet. “I’m bad at making friends.”
That speaks to me on a deeper level, and I sigh. “I’ve actually never had a friend. My two mates are the only people that I actually speak to.”

I blink at her. “Yeah? Logan and his twin brother Eric are both my fated mates. They are
the Alphas of my pack.”
Lexie almost chokes. “Lucky girl…”
I laugh and dismiss her words with my hand. “I wouldn’t call myself lucky. They were both
assholes before my wolf awakened. Bullied me in my earlier years and so on… it’s only now they are trying to do better.”
”
“Well, at least you know who you belong to. I wish I had a mate,” Lexie says with a sigh. “I’m eighteen but haven’t felt that zing with anyone yet.”
I give her a soft smile. “It will happen. Trust me. The moon goddess has a plan for all of

Lexie’s face brightens up. “You

Lexie beams at me. It seems I’ve managed to cheer her up, and when I hastily turn around,
I catch the sight of Logan leaning his back against the wall of the falafel place with his big
arms crossed over his T–shirt. There is a lazy grin tugging on his lips, and somehow, I know
what he is saying without actually saying it out loud.
You’ve made a friend, Five–your first one. I’m proud.
