She Cried Wolf (OLD) -
Part 14
Ashley
When my eyes open, I’m laying in Jackson’s bed. My body aches and I whimper at the bright light. As I close my eyes again, my ears pick up a noise. I sit up and swing my legs over the bed. The world whooshes by as I take my first step out of the door.
“It takes a while to get used to, but eventually you’ll get the hang of it,” I squeak at the voice behind me. I turn around and fall because the world spins. I close my eyes and brace for the impact. Instead, hands grab hold of my shoulders. I peak one eye open and see a girl. I blush when she chuckles. “W-what?” I question. “You have heightened senses. It’s overwhelming at first but it gets better,” I take a moment to study her. She has long curly brown hair and beautiful blue eyes. “I was just coming to check on you. Alpha is going to be glad you’re awake. He can finally stop worrying. I’m Chelsey by the way,” Her words come out all in one breath. “I-I’m Ashley” she nods. “I know,”
It clicks when I realize she’s one of the girls who hangs out with Jackson’s friends. “Do you want me to take you to your mate?” I nod shyly before something she said Perks my attention. “Umm, w-what did you m-mean by he c-can finally stop w-worrying?” we start walking. “Oh, well, you’ve kinda been asleep for three days,” My eyes widen. “Three days?” she nods “Your shift was long and your body needed time to recover,” I shudder at the memory of pain. That’s all I remember from that day is pain.
Chelsey stops in front of a round wooden door. She knocks before a voice answers “Come in,” She opens the door and my heart skips a beat at the man in front of me. He’s looking down at something on his desk, so I take a moment to study him. Someone purrs in the back of my mind. “I have a gift for you!” Chelsey squeals before pushing me forward.
Jackson looks up and his face brightens I glance at Chelsey behind me. “T-thank y-you,” I stutter. She nods before heading back down the hallway. I turn my attention back to Jackson. I smile unconsciously at his happy expression. “Kitten. You’re awake!” I have a very strong urge to go to him and suddenly get flustered.
“Go to mate!” the voice that I recognize as Raja says. The urge gets stronger and my eyes well with tears. I’m confused at my emotions. Jackson’s face falls as he rushes over to my side. “Kitten, What’s wrong?” I shrug, so he wraps his arms around my body and I bury my face into his neck. My emotions calm when I inhale cinnamon and pine.
I gently shove him away and reach up to kiss him. I wrap my arms around his neck as he deepens the kiss. After a while we pull away. He looks at me with a smile. “Better?” he asks. “Yeah. What were you working on?” I question. His face brightens even more. “Nothing!” he quickly grabs my shoulders and leads me out of his office. “Are you lying to me Jackson?” I tease. “Possibly,” he teases back. I huff dramatically and roll my eyes.
“How are you feeling, kitten?” Jackson asks. “A little sore, and overwhelmed. My emotions are all over the place,” I reply. “That’s normal for a first time shift. After you shift a few more times it gets better,” he says back and I nod. “That’s what everyone has been saying,” I reply.
We stop in the kitchen where the group sits. Among the group sits a few men I don’t know. Everyone looks over, and I give a shy wave. It is now that I realize I’m wearing only Jackson’s hoodie which falls mid thigh. I nudge Jackson’s shoulder. “Umm, Jackson?” He turns to face me. “Yes Kitten?” He questions. “I-umm,” I gesture to my outfit and his eyes darken. He growls slightly and moves to block my body.
“Oh, Alpha can we take her shopping?” Chelsey squeals excitedly. Jackson answers immediately. “No,” Chelsey frowns
“But Alpha, she needs a dress Anyway for the ball. Besides you have Alpha business to catch up on,” Hannah adds. My eyebrows furrow. “W-what ball?” I question.
Jackson sighs. “I forgot to tell you about the Winter ball. It’s something the pack has done for years. It’s always held on Christmas,” my eyes widen. Christmas is just a week away. “Jackson! Why didn’t you tell me about this?” I snap with mock anger. He smiles. “You’ve been through a lot in the past few weeks. And it never really came up,” his reply is logical.
“Well then. I’m going shopping,” he opens his mouth to argue but I cut him off. “I need a dress for the ball, and I need clothes of my own,” I look up at him with pleading eyes. I do an internal happy dance when his face softens. “Fine, but I’m sending Daniel with you.” I grin. “Thank you Jackson!” I squeal. “And you need to put different clothes on,”
