Chapter 135

A picture was worth a thousand words. The photo of Winston shoving her into the car was crystalclear.

In no time, the entire clinic was abuzz

Vanessa was the first one to comment. “Jeez! The media really loves to photograph everythingWhat’s wrong with a couple spicing things up a bit?*

“Mr. Greer and Dr. Caldwell are truly a match made in heaven, whether it’s their height orappearance,” another doctor chimed in with a smile.

Amidst the excitement over the juicy gossip, Joanna, who had seen the photos the night before, couldn’t bring herself to smile. Her expression darkened while everyone discussed it.

She had thrown herself at Winston the previous night. She even went as far as to almost stripherself to seduce him.

However, Winston hurled her into the freezing bathtub and left without a backward glance.

Joanna’s face flushed red with embarrassment as she thought about it. She had done so much, yetWinston still refused to be intimate with her. If word got out, wouldn’t she become a laughingstock?Especially to Millie; if she were to replace out Joanna had thrown herself at Winston and he rejectedher, she would surely mock her.

Suddenly, Lainey called out, “Millie, it’s time for our rounds.”

Millie nodded in acknowledgment and followed her out.

Joanna stared at Millie’s workstation. A hint of resentment appeared in her eyes as she muttered,Millie Caldwell, I’ve tolerated you long enough! Don’t push your luck!”

Meanwhile, the moment Millie and Lainey walked out, they saw a furious Terrence storming toward

them.

“Millie Caldwell, get over here!” he bellowed.

Millie froze in place.

Everyone around immediately turned their attention to the father and daughter. Millie knew exactlywhy Terrence was so enraged. She was certain he had seen the news.

“Dad, please let me explain. I went out to have dinner with Rachel, and I happened to run intoWinston, “Millie said as Terrence pulled her to a secluded corner.

But when he turned to look at her, Millie swallowed the words on the tip of her tongue. She cast acautious glance at her father, unable to speak.

“Mills, do you remember what you told me yesterday? You said you won’t let the same man hurt youtwice!”

Then, he picked up his phone and pointed at the pictures showing Millie and Winston sharing a

passionate kiss. Terrence couldn’t understand the situation.

“What does the jerk want from you? He doesn’t love you, yet he refuses to let you go!

Terrence’s face reddened in fury as he uttered those words.

Millie was embarrassed. Her father was worried about her because she failed to handle herrelationship with Winston well.

“There won’t be a next time, Dad,” Millie vowed, her right hand raised.

Despite that, Terrence was still overwhelmed with rage. He glared at Millie and felt the urge to yell ather but couldn’t bring himself to do it.

Millie lowered her head. “I’m sorry, Dad.”

Yet, he didn’t accept her apology and walked away without looking back.

Millie watched Terrence’s retreating figure, feeling a profound sense of anguish. At that moment, herphone rang. Without looking at the caller ID, Millie picked up, “Hello, this is-”

“Mills, it’s me! Grandma!”

A cheerful voice came from the other end of the line. Millie glanced at her phone and realized it wasSelma. She was sure Selma had seen the news as well.

“Why don’t you and Win come over for dinner tonight? A friend of mine just sent some freshingredients over!”

Millie placed her hand on her forehead and began, “Grandma, tonight, I-”

Knowing that a firm approach wouldn’t work with Millie, Selma softened her tone. “Please don’t sayno. It’ll make me sad. I’ll ask Win to pick you up tonight, okay?”

Selma added with a pleading tone, “I really want to see you.”

Millie hesitated momentarily. She couldn’t help but think her soft–heartedness was a curse. In theend, she obediently replied, “Alright, Grandma.”

After ending the call, Millie slapped her forehead, silently reprimanding herself for not knowing howto decline. If Terrence were to learn about this, he would surely berate her for being useless.

Millie felt that her life was too tough. She pressed her forehead against the wall and pounded it withfrustration.
