Chapter 139

“Grandma, that’s enough!” Winston shot up from his seat and intimidated the people around thedining table with his stern and frigid tone.

That earned him a glare from Selma. “Why? Are you speaking

p for that seductive bitch?”

“Watch your language,” he said softly, attempting to communicate with Selma.

Narrowing her eyes, she challenged him, “I can be meaner than that. Try me.”

“Grandma!” He frowned, his patience wearing thin.

Slamming her fist on the table, she stood up and warned him, “Winston Greer, remember, you’re amarried man!”

“But Millie and I have no feelings for each other.” He frowned, as he was initially unwilling to statethat aloud in Millie’s presence.

Meanwhile, Millie seemed unfazed at his remark.

However, the couple’s feelings were the least of Selma’s concerns. Pointing at Joanna, she staredsquarely at Winston. “You can marry her over my dead body.”

Selma and Winston were trapped in a staring match. He was confused by his family’s staunchrejection of Joanna. What had she done wrong to deserve that treatment?

Sobbing, Joanna tugged at his sleeve. “Win, don’t fight with your grandma over me. I shouldn’t haveshown up today…”

Selma glowered at Joanna, thinking, “Oh, how dare she act like a bitch? It’s so infuriating!” Shepressed a hand on her chest, clearly frustrated at the situation.

Seeing that, Millie went over to support Selma, worried for Selma’s health. “Grandma, please don’tbe angry, It’s not good for your health.”

She looked at Winston and Joanna. Then, she said flatly, “We’re all adults here. We can handle ourrelationship issues. Your health is the utmost priority. Please don’t fret over our problems.”

Millie’s gentle tone was akin to a soft breeze in the middle of the tense situation, and it broughtcomfort to Selma.

“Seel That’s the difference between Millie and Joanna!” she thought.

All Joanna knew was to coyly call for Winston, something Millie would never do.

“Sorry, Mrs. Greer Senior. I shall not visit anymore.” Nodding, Joanna shed a tear before turning toleave.

Millie cast a complicated look at her. For a second, she empathized with Joanna, as she had arrivedat the Greer family with the same humble attitude years ago.

Winston tried to go after Joanna, only to have Selma bellow at him, “Do you want me dead, yourascal?

Feeling depressed, he snapped, “Grandma, how long do you plan to keep this going?”

Did it please her to see the three of them suffering?

“Winston, do you think I’m wrong for throwing a tantrum, or do you think you’re wrong for testing thelimits after that bitch seduced you?” Selma shouted breathlessly.

“Grandma-”

“Grandma, he knows he’s at fault,” Millie cut him off. “He’ll keep a distance from Joanna. So, pleasedon’t be angry.”

Then, she glared at Winston. How could he talk back to Selma when the poor old lady wassuffering? Would he only be satisfied seeing Selma hospitalized?

Choking on his emotions, he had nowhere to release his anger. Everyone seemed to be putting the

blame on him.

He believed he was destined to marry Joanna, for she had once saved his life. And he had nochoice.

These years, he was trapped between the two women. On top of that, he was inundated by familyand work stress. Had anyone attempted to listen and empathize with him?

Later, Millie helped Selma settle in bed. She instructed the butler to keep an eye on her and takeher to the hospital if anything happened.

Selma was sighing and lamenting.

Millie shut the door to Selma’s room. Winston, who was on the first floor, stared at his phone andcussed, “Damn it!”

His phone had broken.

Speechless at his outburst, she cleared her throat and approached him. ‘Grandma is in bed. Youmay leave now.”

He cast a look at her before leaving Selma’s place. Since Millie did not drive herself over, she hadto leave in Winston’s car.

Selma’s villa was quite remote, making it challenging to hail a cab. Meanwhile, waiting for Marvin topick her up would take at least half an hour.

Sensing Millie’s hesitation, Winston pulled his car to her side and rolled down the window. Shejoined him in his car and gently thanked him for the ride.

Winston then called Joanna with his secondary phone. Millie could hear every single word clearlyfrom the front passenger seat.

Crying, Joanna questioned, “What can I do to win your grandma’s heart? Win, I love you, and I wantto be with you. What have I done wrong?”

Millie stared out at the passing shops and trees, her heart aching. She had wanted to express thesame feelings as Joanna.
