Smiling, she countered, “I should buy you dinner because you lost the bid to Greer Group. Isn’t thatso?”

“No difference. Let’s replace comfort in each other.” He shrugged, indicating that both of them were

unlucky.

Resting her chin in her palm, Millie looked out of the car window. The light in her eyes dimmed.

Simon repeatedly stole glances at Millie and looked away. While waiting at the red light, hesuddenly called out to her, “Millie.”

“Hm?”

A short silence later, he adjusted his gold–rimmed glasses and pursed his lips. After somehesitation, he blurted out, “Shall we give it a try?”
