Chapter 27

Sensing the tension in the air, Joanna immediately jumped in, Winston, why do you always arguewith Mills when you see her?”
Winston looked away. His face was clouded with anger.
Joanna forced herself to smile and added, “You two were lovers once. Even if you no longer havefeelings for her, Mills is still a woman… Can’t you just leave her be?”
Millie became irritated hearing Joanna’s words. While Joanna seemed to be advising Winston toease the tension, she was actually mocking Millie. Millie knew exactly if Winston still had feelings forher, and she didn’t appreciate Joanna being a busybody.
Joanna approached Millie with a friendly tone of voice. “What a coincidence to run into you here,Mills! How about a friendly game. of golf? The loser must do a dare. What do you say?”
Millie smirked as she realized that Joanna was once again playing the role of mediator.
Joanna, who knew Millie was good at almost everything but golf, blinked and feigned ignorance.“Mills, do you have any doubts? Can’t you play golf?”
“Surely you know I can’t play golf,” Millie replied.
Her unexpected toughness caught Joanna off guard. Joanna pursed her lips and instinctively puther arm around Winston’s.
Millie couldn’t get rid of the bitterness and jealousy she felt toward Joanna. No matter if Joanna wascausing trouble or if she was being mistreated, Winston would always have her back as long as sheleaned on him.
“Is she supposed to know if you can play golf?” Winston questioned firmly.
A whirlwind of emotions swirled inside Millie as she glanced at Winston. He had always been onJoanna’s side, Mille loved him but she didn’t deserve to be treated that way.
“Mills isn’t much of a golfer. Ms. Lowell, how about 1 join you for a round of golf?” Simon chimed in,shielding, Millie behind his back.
Suddenly, Millie felt a sense of security flood through. She’d never felt anything like it before,Overwhelmed with gratitude, she gazed at his back before lowering, her head.
Winston’s eyes burned fiercely as he glared at Simon.
Joanna looked at Simon, then turned to Millie with a smile and said, “I’d still like to play with Mills, though.” She was confident that Winston would support her no matter what she did. If she wanted tobe arrogant and bossy, she could.
“Ms. Lowell, don’t you think you’re going too far?” Simon smiled thinly.
“She came here to enjoy herself, right? So how is it going too far when we’re all just here to have agood time?” Joanna shot him a smug, challenging look,
Millie stared at her in silence, She was at a loss for words. She couldn’t believe how distant theyhad become. They used to be inseparable skipping school together, dressing alike, and evenbuying matching jewelry. They once shared a bond that seemed unbreakable, but now….
“How about serving me drinks if you don’t want to play, Mills?” Joanna raised an eyebrow. A hint ofresentment flickered in her eyes,
Millie’s expression turned icy in response.
“Ms. Lowell, do you realize that she’s Millie? How dare you ask her to serve you?” Simon’s eyeshardened.
“Mill, did you come here just to fort with guys? You’re not willing to join me or serve me,” Joannasnapped, her words growing
harsher.
Frustrated with the conversation, Millie responded coldly, “Fine, I’ll join” She was strong–willed andunafraid to take risks. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have married Winston in the first place,
Winston furrowed his brows. He was surprised that Millie agreed.
Joanna narrowed her eyes and scoffed at what she perceived as Millie’s foolishness. Millie hadbarely touched a golf club, yet she dared to challenge Joanna, who was a seasoned player.
All right, then! Let’s make it big while we’re at it! How about the loser has to kiss the first guy shesees after leaving here?” Joanna suggested.
