Chapter 394
Millle added, “Everyone in Yerwick knows Winston was kidnapped once.”
A hint of surprise flickered in Eli’s eyes. But it disappeared as quickly as it came after he heard whatMillie said. Indeed, everyone was aware of Winston’s abduction.
“Ms. Caldwell, the butterfly tattoo on your back is beautiful,” Eli commented. “I don’t rememberseeing it before.”
Millie instinctively touched her back and let out a casual “Oh.” As she pushed open the door of theward, she replied, “I didn’t have this tattoo before.”
She pointed inside. “This is Sonny’s ward.”
The nurses had already cleaned it, and it was now empty. Eli inspected the room thoroughly, checking every corner. Yet, he found nothing.
“Are you looking for something?” Millie asked him.
Eli hummed in response before asking, “Did you replace anything that Sonny might have left behindwhile you were cleaning the bathroom?”
“No.” Millie shook her head.
Eli fell silent for a moment. Then, he nodded lightly.
“What are you searching for? Can I help with anything?” Millie offered.
Eli sighed inwardly, his expression reflecting a mix of emotions. After that, he looked at Millie anddecided to ask, “Ms. Caldwell, I’m not sure if I should ask this.”
“Go ahead,” Millie replied straightforwardly.
“Do you know your back-” Eli began, but his words were interrupted by the ringing of his phone.
He retrieved the device and told Millie, “Sorry, I need to take this call.”
Millie nodded and quietly leaned against the headboard. What was Eli about to ask? Was he goingto bring up the scar on her back? Why was he as fixated on its origin as Winston had been?
As the thought crossed her mind, Millie’s heart skipped a beat. Did this mean they were unawarethat she had been the one who had saved Winston all those years ago?
After ending the call, Eli gently uttered, “Ms. Caldwell, I have something to attend to. We’ll talk later.
“Alright.” Millie nodded and didn’t say more.
Eli gave her one last look before sighing and striding out.
A male doctor in a white coat was waiting for Eli at the emergency department. As Eli approached, the doctor handed him a file, saying, “Here’s Ms. Lowell’s medical record.

“It states that she was admitted with a severe back injury and significant blood loss that night. Dr.Newton was on the night shift, and he treated her.”
After saying that, the doctor suddenly pointed to another male doctor nearby and called out, “Dr.Newton, come over here.”
Anthony Newton was a man in his 40s. He sported a crew cut and appeared to be a down–to–earth
man.
“Dr. Newton, this is Mr. Eli Barnes, Mr. Greer’s assistant,” the doctor introduced them.
He then asked Anthony, “Dr. Newton, you were the one who treated Ms. Lowell after she wasinjured on the night Mr. Greer was abducted, right?”
Anthony sized Eli up. His gaze darkened slightly as he nodded and cautiously answered, “Yes, thewound is on her right side. Here.”
Anthony pointed to the back of his shoulder and neck as he spoke. “There’s a scar. Occasionally, she still comes in for check–ups, saying the wound still hurts.”
Eli stared intently at Anthony and asked in a low voice, “Are you sure about that?”
“Of course I am. Everyone at the hospital back then knew Ms. Lowell was the one who saved Mr.Greer,” Anthony responded with a hearty laugh.
His laughter felt oddly mismatched with his plain appearance.
“What about Ms. Caldwell’s medical records?” Eli asked the other doctor.
The doctor shook his head. “I searched for a long time but couldn’t replace it. There were no records ofher at all for a month or two before and after Mr. Greer’s incident.”
Eli sighed. With the “L” Sonny traced on Winston’s palm and Joanna’s medical records, thereseemed to be no point in wasting any more time on this matter.
