After saying that, Xavier shifted his glance away from the reporters.

He put his arm around Winnie's shoulders and held her tightly.

While all the cameras were pointed at them, they walked a full circle toward Xavier's VVIP elevator.

In the elevator, Josiah questioned, "Did you purposely stop on the first floor to show off Dumbo to those reporters? You already knew the reporters are there, right?"

Furrowing his brows, Xavier replied, "No. You're wrong."

"Oh?"

Hearing Xavier denying it, Josiah and Winnie looked at Xavier with puzzled looks.

If it's not because of that, then what? Their curiosity was piqued.

Xavier did not like how similar Josiah and Winnie's reactions were, and he got jealous.

With that, he tightened his arm around Winnie's waist.

"I went to show off Mrs. Fairchild," he said to Josiah with tightly knitted brows.

He specifically emphasized on the words "Mrs. Fairchild."

Then, Xavier continued, "Josiah, even though you're my best friend, I will not allow you to call my wife 'Dumbo.' That is my special nickname for her. It's a pet name that we use when we get intimate. You shouldn't chime in on our affairs."

At his words, Winnie had the urge to spew blood.

The first part of what Xavier said sounded all right. Introducing one's significant other in public was a way to show how much they respected and cared for their beloved.

However, when he suddenly talked about pet names and being intimate in such a serious tone, she did not know how to react.

Josiah, who heard Xavier's words, was fluctuating between being pale and being flushed.

Clearing his throat, he responded, "Do you have to be so love-struck? Fine, I won't call her that anymore. Also, when did I ever chime in on your affairs? If the reporters heard what you said, they're going to drag me down for being a paramour!"

Xavier furrowed his brows as he questioned, "Paramour? You have that in mind?"

Is he being serious? Did his intelligence go down the drain?

Truthfully, Josiah did feel a little bit guilty. Otherwise, he would not have lost his cool.

However, he knew that his best friend had no ill intentions; Xavier was just affected by the drug.

In a way, Xavier was a victim.

Noticing how the atmosphere in the elevator was getting tenser, Winnie decided to speak up.

Looking at Josiah, she uttered, "We're all best friends, but there's a limit to what we can joke about. The circumstances are a bit unique at the moment, so don't mind him."

"Understood," Josiah replied with a nod.

Feeling unhappy, Xavier raised Winnie's chin. His dark eyes exuded a strong sense of annoyance.

"What are you doing, Dumbo? Why are you only consoling him, not me? Am I not comparable to a rascal like Josiah?"

One by one, Winnie pried open Xavier's fingers from her chin. Chuckling wryly, she answered, "That's because everything you said is correct. There's no need for consolation if you don't need one, right?" Satisfied by Winnie's reply, Xavier proudly said, "Heh, so you do know how to please me, after all. Very good. As expected from my woman!"

There he goes again, blurting out cringy CEO lines.

Winnie calmed herself down. If Xavier was not ill, she would have given him a strong punch.

Soon, the elevator reached the eighteenth floor. Winnie and Josiah could finally escape the suffocating atmosphere.

This was not Josiah's first time coming to Xavier's office. Hence, he was familiar with the layout.

After exiting the elevator, he directly headed left.

On the other hand, Xavier and Winnie headed right.

After everything that happened today, Josiah did not feel like talking to Xavier anymore.

He dragged Louis, who was behind Xavier and Winnie, with him.

Curious, Josiah asked, "Where is he going? Isn't that the employee working area? Aren't we supposed to be heading to his office?"

"That's the senior executives working area," Louis explained. "Mr. Fairchild wants to introduce Mrs. Fairchild to everyone in Fairchild Corporation."

Josiah grumbled, "How childish. Didn't he do enough in front of the reporters just now? Once the articles are out, everyone in the country would know they made out in the elevator. Everyone would know how intimate they are with each other. Oh well, I'm not getting involved in this one. Tell him I'll be waiting in his office."

"All right. Do you want anything to drink? I'll get a secretary to prepare it for you."

"No need. You guys just be quick."

Louis nodded.

A thought then came to his mind, and he uttered, "Dr. Houghton, please don't take to heart what Mr. Fairchild had said to you before. From what I can see, Mr. Fairchild is just very sensitive when it comes to matters regarding Mrs. Fairchild. He's no different from usual when dealing with work."

"Don't worry. I don't mind at all," Josiah replied smilingly. "We've been best friends for decades. I'm not going to be pissed just because of a few words."

I can only say that Xavier is too obsessed with Dumbo now.

In the meantime, after walking around in a circle, Winnie probably knew every senior executive in Fairchild Corporation now, and she understood Xavier's reason for doing so.

While on the way to Xavier's office, Winnie had a discussion with the former.

"When you plan to do something like this next time, you should discuss it with me first. I'm not mentally prepared at all."

"What do you need to prepare?" The man frowned. "Whatever I give you, you can just take it. Just like how..." he trailed off, leaning closer to Winnie. "Just like how you took it last night."

Winnie gritted her teeth upon hearing that. Now's not the time to be flirting!

"Louis, bring me to his office now!" Winnie shoved Xavier aside and walked straight ahead.

By the time the three of them reached the office, Josiah had already discovered some information.

When he saw Winnie and Xavier, he hastily told them what he discovered.

"I surfed the web and went through some articles and videos. I've locked my sight on a few sources. Among those, some accounts are quite influential. They have over a million followers. If we begin our investigation from them, I'm sure we can replace the mastermind."

Nodding, Winnie said to Xavier, "Get your PR department to investigate. I know your company's PR department is proficient in this."

Xavier hummed in acknowledgment and immediately ordered Louis, "Do as she says."

"Yes, Mr. Fairchild," Louis answered before leaving to make the arrangements.

At this time, Xavier crossed his arms and looked at Josiah and Winnie with furrowed brows.

"Now can you guys tell me what happened at the airport?" he questioned. Spread the love
