Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier) -
Chapter 227
Winnie wasn't really in the mood for intimacy that day, but she would still try to satisfy Xavier because she had wronged him.
To her surprise, however, all Xavier did was scrub her back.
Winnie turned around to look at him as she protested, "Are you trying to get your revenge on me? At this rate, you'll scrape the skin off my back!"
Xavier turned her head back to the front. "Don't turn around."
"Why? Are you shy or something? I can feel it even without looking, you know?" Winnie said with a chuckle.
With their bodies tightly pressed against each other, it was only natural that she could feel his erection.
"You smell like you haven't showered in days!" Xavier exclaimed, ignoring her statement completely.
Winnie gave him a light stomp on the foot. "It's not that bad, is it? Are you sure you're not imagining things?"
"I don't know. This is the first time I've scrubbed someone down in the shower, so be grateful!" Xavier snapped back at her.
Winnie let out a chuckle. "All right, then. Thank you for your kind service, Xavier!"
The two of them then fell silent after that.
Eventually, it was Winnie who broke the silence by saying, "Xavier, there's something I need to explain to you."
Xavier nodded and replied nonchalantly, "Go ahead. I'm listening."
"It's about me and Christopher. As you probably have guessed, he's carrying out a secret mission here. He saved my life when I happened to run into him last night. Nothing happened between us, though. He only said all that earlier to terrorize that pervert and ensure my safety," Winnie explained.
Xavier's hand, which was scrubbing Winnie's back, paused briefly before he said, "Oh, I know. I can tell. However, that kiss was definitely deliberate on his part."
Winnie found herself unable to deny his statement as that kiss did seem completely unnecessary.
After giving it some thought, she reminded him, "You can confront him about all you like after we return to Chanaea. He is currently risking his life for our country, so we mustn't expose his identity. As citizens of Chanaea, we have a responsibility and obligation to help keep this secret."
Xavier got angry when he heard that. "I understand. Do I look like someone who doesn't know his priorities? I was a little surprised when I saw him, but then you gave me that look... You were staring at me as though I would yell his name and betray him on the spot! Am I really that unreliable to you? Even if you don't trust me, you should at least trust your taste in men! Do you really think you'd fall for a man that stupid and irresponsible? Honestly, I feel like you'll give me a stroke someday!"
Winnie fell silent as she had nothing to say in response to that.
"You know what? Forget it. I'm done scrubbing you," Xavier said angrily as he tossed the loofah aside and grabbed the towel.
Fearing that he would get horny again and decide to punish her a second time, Winnie quickly wrapped a towel around herself and stepped outside.
While she was changing, she stole a few glances at Xavier's crotch and asked, "Are you sure you don't want to do it?"
Naturally, Xavier understood what she was talking about.
"I do, but I'm really angry right now. I'm afraid of accidentally hurting you. Unlike a certain someone, I care about the feelings of others!" he replied while tossing his towel onto the couch.
"Oh, come on! Don't say that!" Winnie walked up to him and smiled ingratiatingly as she continued, "You're my hubby! Stop being so petty and dramatic!"
"Hmm? What did you just call me?" Xavier asked with an eyebrow arched.
Winnie chuckled and made a beckoning gesture with her index finger.
As Xavier leaned in closer, she whispered into his ear, "Hubby!"
That was the day Winnie realized how easy it was to cheer Xavier up.
After getting dressed, Winnie went to visit Greta in her room.
Greta, who was polishing her gun at the time, quickly covered it with a rag when she saw Winnie come in.
"There's no need to hide it. It's not like I haven't seen a gun before," Winnie said as she sat down in front of her.
Greta let out a chuckle. "I know you have, but some people are a little sensitive around guns. They are weapons that have taken lives, after all. So, how did it go, Ms. Garland? Did you sort things out with your man?"
Winnie nodded. "Yes, I did. It was just a little misunderstanding, so it's all cleared up now. How is your injury? Do you need to go to a hospital?"
"Nah, it's nothing serious. I've already bandaged it. Just need to take some medication, and it'll heal in no time."
"All right, then. By the way, were you able to contact Mason and the others?"
"I was, but the Horton family's men are everywhere, so we can't get all of our men back just yet. They're going to be a huge target if they all return at the same time. This operation has failed; we'll need to come up with another plan."
"Oh, that can wait. There's something else I need you guys to do."
Being a smart woman, Greta caught on fairly quickly. "Why? Did Chris promise to help you out or something?"
Winnie flashed her a faint smile in response. "You're a mercenary, Greta. I believe you understand the dangers of knowing too much."
"I do, but I can tell you're not like the other employers. A woman's intuition is highly accurate. You're a woman, so I'm sure you can relate," Greta replied.
Winnie let out a soft chuckle. "You're very smart, Greta."
"So, I was right about it, then. Well, Chris is working for the Horton family, so it'll be a lot easier for him to carry out a rescue operation from the inside. He'll also be able to keep the number of casualties to a minimum. This is probably the best way to go about it."
"Yeah," Winnie mumbled.
In order to ensure she wouldn't reveal any information about Christopher, she quickly changed the topic by saying, "Contact your man and have him come over today as soon as possible. There's something I need him to do."
"What is it about? I know you warned me about asking questions, but I can't help it. You wanted us to help you save your family, but now, you want us to do something else? This place is a freaking drug den. What other business could you possibly have with this place?" Greta asked after a brief pause.
"What's the matter? Do I need to pay you guys extra for changing your mission?" Winnie asked nonchalantly.
"No, Ms. Garland. As I said, you're different from the other employers. I just can't help but feel like a beautiful woman of high status such as yourself shouldn't get involved in all this. You should be sipping a 1982 vintage at a fancy banquet like all the other wealthy women out there. Unlike us outlaws who have to risk our lives for money, you don't seem to have financial issues at all. Why must you get your hands dirty in a filthy place like this? You should just rescue your family and go back to your home country!" Greta replied with a sincere look on her face.
The smile on Winnie's face slowly vanished after she heard that.
"I know you're worried about me, but we all have our duties to fulfill. At the very least, I know what I'm doing is meaningful."
"Meaningful?" Greta mumbled repeatedly as she went into deep thought.
After what seemed like forever, she snapped out of her train of thought and asked, "Ms. Garland, do you know what makes you different from the other employers?" Winnie shook her head. "No. Why don't you go ahead and tell me?"
Greta's eyes lit up as she replied, "Unlike my previous employers, you have a sense of justice about you. If I had to describe it, I'd say you're like the morning sun!" "The morning sun? This is the first time I've heard such a description!" Winnie exclaimed with a chuckle.
Greta burst out laughing. "I just like the smell of sunshine. I hope that the sun will one day shine upon this land and light up every filthy corner in existence." Winnie simply flashed her a smile and kept quiet.
The next day, Winnie called the number Christopher gave her.
Unsure of whether it was Christopher on the other line, she called out to him, "Hey, Chris. It's me. Is it convenient for you to talk right now?"
"Aw, you miss me? Don't worry; I'll go and see you once I've taken care of things here." It was apparent that Christopher wasn't alone when he answered the call, because he spent a long while putting up an act. After excusing himself, he said, "I've been waiting for your call, you know?"
"What's wrong? Did something happen to my granny?" Winnie asked with a frown.
"I wouldn't say that. In fact, I think this counts as good news," Christopher replied.
"What happened?" Winnie was getting a little anxious.
"That girl named Rachel had measles all of a sudden, and your granny got infected too. There are lots of kids in the place they're currently staying at. As you know, kids have weak immune systems. So, those women suggested sending her and your granny away. Even the doctor wanted to have them quarantined."
"Have they been sent away yet? Where are they now?"
"Your call came in right on time. They were sent away a while ago, so they should be arriving at their destination soon."
"Who was it that sent them away? Was it your men? They're not going to kill them, are they?"
"It wasn't my men who did it. Besides, they wouldn't have taken them that far away if they were going to kill them. I'll provide you guys with the address. The place isn't heavily guarded, so you should be able to rescue them fairly easily. I won't be able to help you out this time, though. I've just completed my work, and I need to finish Zyon off before he gets back."
"All right, you go ahead and do what you have to do. Just send me the address; I'll take care of the rest."
A few minutes later, Winnie received an address from Christopher on her phone. This time, however, she chose to tell Xavier about it. The two then headed over to the specified location with the mercenaries. According to the information that Christopher provided, it was a small, stand-alone building that Zyon owned.
