Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier) -
Chapter 237
Xavier typed: Look into Zyon's background again. For example, replace out if it's possible that the hospital he was born in mistook him for someone else.
The person he was messaging soon replied: Roger! So far, we've discovered that Jacinta's true birthplace may be somewhere else. I believe we'll be able to replace out where it is soon!
Xavier: Do it quickly! After reading the reply to his order, Xavier frowned slightly. It seems like there is more than meets the eye to Jacinta.
Pondering the matter in detail for a moment, he then gestured for his bodyguard to follow him.
He brought the bodyguard to a spot far away from Jacinta's ward because he didn't want the people inside to hear what he had to say next. "I'm going to ask you a few questions, and I expect you to answer them truthfully. Don't hold back, understand?"
His overly serious tone terrified the bodyguard. "I-I understand, Mr. Fairchild. I'll answer your questions truthfully."
"Good." Xavier raised his eyebrow and looked at the bodyguard. "When you were chasing after Mdm. Sumner, did she really fall down the stairs by accident? Or did she pretend to do so? You don't need to worry about anything. Just tell me exactly what happened."
With furrowed eyebrows, the bodyguard answered, "That, I am not sure. There were a lot of people at the station back then, so I couldn't clearly see how she fell down the stairs. According to what she said, she was tripped by someone and fell. She was already at the bottom of the stairs when I caught up to her."
"Okay. Did she contact anyone after she woke up? Or did anyone call her?"
"Nope!" That word left the bodyguard's mouth instantly because he was very certain about that.
"Mhm. In that case, just protect Mdm. Sumner for the time being. Additionally, I want you to pay attention to her every move."
"Roger!"
"One last thing," Xavier hastily added with an incredibly serious expression. "Do not let Winnie learn about our conversation! Not even a single word of it! Do you understand?"
"I do! Don't worry, Mr. Fairchild. I can definitely do that."
Xavier nodded. "Very well. Go and guard the entrance now. If Winnie asks about me, tell her I went to the restroom."
With that said, he ambled in the direction of the restroom.
That was because he was suddenly experiencing discomfort. It was as though the blood in his entire body was getting restless, which was a sign that his condition was about to act up. Thus, he needed to go to the restroom immediately and wash his face with cold water to calm himself down.
After more than a dozen minutes had passed, Winnie stepped out of the ward.
When the bodyguard saw her, he promptly explained, "Mr. Fairchild went to the restroom, Mrs. Fairchild. He'll be back soon. Why don't you sit here and wait for him?"
"It's fine." She was planning to go to the restroom anyway. "You just need to focus on protecting Granny well. There's no need to pay attention to anything else."
The instant she ended her sentence, she saw Xavier approaching her.
Winnie strode toward him. "Where's the restroom? Take me there."
Then she eyed him and asked, "What happened to your hair? Why is it so wet?"
"I accidentally drenched my hair when I was washing my face. It's way too hot here. I'm soaked with sweat," Xavier explained casually.
He wasn't technically wrong. Although, the sweat on his body wasn't just because of the heat. It was also due to his attempt at concealing his relapse.
His reason for not telling Winnie the truth was that he didn't want her to worry about him when there were already so many troubling things demanding her attention.
Additionally, he only had to endure for a while before that sense of restlessness left him. That made him believe he wouldn't relapse any time soon.
After Winnie went to the restroom, both of them swiftly left the hospital and returned to the hotel because Mason and Greta were still waiting for her there.
What she was about to discuss with them was pretty confidential, so she didn't want Xavier to know.
Hence, her mind was busy on the way back to the hotel. She was thinking about what she should say to make her excuse sound reasonable to Xavier.
After all, she had already lied to Xavier that she had asked Mason to investigate Yulissa, and technically, she had no reason to hide any details about the matter from him.
What happened in the end surprised Winnie. Xavier said he wanted to take a shower to wash away his sweat and suggested she meet with Mason and Greta first.
Thus, she hurriedly went looking for Greta and Mason to ask them about the situation, not giving Xavier's absence a second thought.
After all, it was pretty rare for him to sweat that much when they were in their home country. Additionally, she knew he was a bit of a clean freak, so she didn't replace anything wrong with him taking a shower after sweating a lot.
"Take your time with your shower. I'll head to the neighboring room first," Winnie informed.
"Okay." Xavier's voice sounded slightly deeper because he felt his body spiraling out of control again.
He knew the veins on his forehead were bulging, which was why he had been talking to Winnie with his back to her. "You should go. I'll be right there."
"It's okay. There's no rush."
"Mhm!" Xavier didn't have the willpower to hold back in front of her any longer, so he took off his shirt and went straight into the bathroom.
Noting how anxious he was, Winnie grew worried as she thought he was going to finish his shower quickly to join her in the neighboring room. Thus, she acted fast and darted over to meet with Mason and Greta.
The moment she saw the two of them, she blurted, "We don't have much time, so get to the point."
Mason answered immediately, "We did replace a bit of information. Our preliminary analysis informed us that it is the person you're looking for. However, there's too little information about that person, so we can't tell for sure. Most importantly, though, the information you provided us isn't much either."
"I see." She was aware that the original information she gave them wasn't plenty. "Tell me what you found."
"Okay. The Southeast Aploth market and Adrune market aren't the same. There is a difference in terms of the drugs' purity and composition. While we didn't replace any unfamiliar faces coming from Adrune during this period, we did get our hands on some of Adrune's drugs. It's relatively rare in this area, so we followed the lead and found some information. However, the information is so meager that I'm not sure if this is useful to you at all."
"I understand." Winnie nodded. "Continue."
"We continued to investigate those Adrune drugs and found a name. Or perhaps it is more appropriate to say that it's a codename-Big Black Bear. Sadly, we couldn't replace out what they look like, how old they are, or if they are even a man or woman. Don't bother asking us about their tracks. We couldn't replace any."
"Very good!" Just hearing the words “Big Black Bear" was enough for Winnie to know that her employment of Mason and Greta wasn't in vain. "Before you two arrived, I received some news, too. Unfortunately, the information I obtained was more or less the same as what you two found. Aside from that codename, I know nothing else about this person. However, I'm fine with the lack of information so long as I know for sure they're here. Oh yeah, about the Adrune drugs you mentioned earlier. Where did it initially come from? If we can figure that out, we'll be able to get a better grasp of Big Black Bear's whereabouts." "According to the information we found, the goods came from Lightspring. However, Lightspring is a place with a lot of human traffic, so I can't be sure if he's still there or not. At this point, he may not even still be in Jipsdale."
"I understand." Winnie's eyebrows furrowed slightly. "Regardless, there's no doubt that Lightspring is close to where the three most powerful drug lords in Jipsdale are located, right?" "Yep, there's no doubt about that."
"That's good enough for me. I already have a plan. I'll need you two's help for what comes next-"
Winnie's sentence was cut short by a loud bang from the neighboring room, startling her.
Since she was the only one sitting against the wall at the moment, she was the one who heard the sound the clearest.
Mason and Greta were shocked, too. They even went so far as to pull out their guns.
"What's happening?" Greta couldn't help but ask.
In the blink of an eye, Winnie returned to her senses and stood. "The sound came from the room next to this! I think something happened to my husband!"
Before the duo could even see her expression and movements, she practically flew out of the room the second she stopped speaking.
When the duo arrived at the neighboring room, Winnie was already heading into the bathroom.
The showerhead inside the bathroom was still turned on. However, there wasn't even a bit of warmth in the tiny bathroom. From that, it was obvious the water was cold.
The explosion-proof glass used as the shower partition was shattered. There was even blood amidst the glass fragments.
As for Xavier, his body was being pressed down on the wet floor by Winnie. He was moving as though he wasn't in control of his body. His bloodshot eyes certainly strengthened that impression. "Should we... send him to the hospital?" Greta asked. "How did this explosion-proof glass just explode?"
"No need! Quickly, help me secure him and move him to the bed!" Winnie was aware the glass hadn't exploded for no reason.
She was certain Xavier had punched the glass when his condition acted up, as evidenced by his bleeding right knuckles.
Winnie, Mason, and Greta worked together and quickly brought Xavier to the bed.
While Mason wasn't as tall as Xavier, he was still pretty burly. However, the relapsing Xavier was still plenty strong.
It took the combined strength of Mason and Greta to hold Xavier down, just barely.
Greta was a woman, so after restricting Xavier for a while as he violently struggled to break free, she swiftly began to feel tired. "What do we do next, Ms. Garland?"
"D*mn it! Where are my needles? Why can't I replace them?" As Winnie spoke, she searched through the room.
"What needles?"
Winnie was in such dismay that she didn't hear what Greta said.
Luckily, realization dawned on her soon enough. Wait! The room I stayed in last night was the one next to this one! All my important luggage is there, not here!
Without delay, she bolted to the other room, grabbed her needles, and stabbed them into Xavier's body.
The effect of her acupuncture was immediate. By the time she stabbed the seventh needle into his body, he was gradually drifting off. After the tenth needle, his eyelids were completely shut. Winnie let out a sigh of relief when she saw that.
Wiping the sweat on her forehead away, she calmly stabbed the rest of the needles into more than a dozen acupoints on his head.
Greta watched Winnie work from the side, dumbfounded. "Is this Chanaea's traditional medicine, Ms. Garland? It's that powerful?"
"Of course." Winnie felt like her body was almost completely drained of energy upon jabbing the last needle. "This is the quintessence of my country's culture."
"Awesome!" Unable to hold herself back, Greta gave Winnie a thumbs up. Then she thought about it and asked, "What kind of sickness does your husband have, Ms. Garland? His eyes were red like a vampire's. It looked so demonic."
Her words ticked Winnie off. With furrowed eyebrows, she glanced at Greta and uttered coldly, "Don't pry into matters you don't need to know. Go back to the neighboring room. I'll brief you two about your next mission."
When Xavier came to, it was already three in the afternoon.
He felt like he had had a very chaotic dream. However, he couldn't remember any details.
As his temples throbbed, he moved to caress his head, only to notice his hand was wrapped in thick gauze.
It was a long while later before he felt the sensation of pain coming from his hand.
Then, Winnie's voice traveled into his ears. "You're finally awake."
With a smile, Xavier grabbed her hand. "Winnie."
There was a complicated look in her eyes as she stared at him. "Were you already feeling unwell back when we were in the hospital? Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Seems like I can't hide anything from you. Granny's issue still hasn't been resolved, and I know you're feeling overwhelmed, so I didn't want to add to your worries."
"You should've told me! It's dangerous if no one's around you when your condition acts up. You may end up hurting yourself or even others as a result. Do you know what you did just now?"
"No." Xavier shook his head. "Although, based on my hand's injury, I think I only hurt myself. Thankfully, I didn't hurt you."
"Are you stupid? You punched the bathroom's explosion-proof glass into pieces in a single blow! Look at how many cuts there are on your body. What if the shards had pricked your eyes or any other important body parts? You'd be disabled!"
Xavier hummed in response, still grinning as he pulled Winnie's hand to his lips and gave it a gentle kiss. "Strange. You seem very gentle even when you're reprimanding me today. Why's that? Did you do something bad?"
"I don't think it is."
"Hmm?" Immediately, Xavier frowned. "So you're saying you did do something bad? What did you do?"
"I want to go to the Horton residence! Yulissa is as elusive as quicksilver, and her whereabouts are too hard to pin down. We've only been here for five days, but she has lived here for five years. I don't think it'l be easy to track her down. There's an eighty percent chance that the venom she injected into you was made by her grandfather, and I know he's being held captive by Harold right now. That's why I want to go to the Horton residence and replace Professor White as soon as possible to cure you. You're lucky this time since you only suffered minor injuries after hitting the glass. However, if your condition acts up again, you may not be as fortunate. I don't want you to keep living in this extremely unstable condition! Don't look at me like that. You know there's no stopping me once I put my mind to doing something."
Silence filled the air for a brief moment before he broke it. "I understand. Can I at least know your plan?"
