Chapter 45
Ciara closed her eyes for only a moment. She was swept away and found herself staring down a long hallway. Curiously, as she proceeded, the sound of her shoes echoing off the empty walls disturbed her. She saw a stairwell and continued forward until she found herself face to face with a strange old man who seemed surprised to see her.
“Kira!” The man exclaimed.
“Ciara,” She replied correcting him.
He sighed, “So it is true then.”
“I do not understand what you mean.” She replied.
“You are my daughter. Your memory was taken from you. Please you must remember. I know the power is within you to do so.” The man urged.
She backed away slowly. “This is all just a dream.”
“It is not. You are Kira, queen of Avalon. This is your home. The man you are with has taken this from you. Do not trust him. Fight to remember.” He urged.
“No,” She shook her head. “Wake up Ciara.”
When she opened her eyes again Ciara was still in the hospital bed. Derek was just making his way back into the room as she wiped the sweat away with a trembling hand.
He set the bag down with a concerned look and asked, “What’s wrong darling?”
“I had a bad dream.” She smiled. “It’s over now though, I’m alright.”
“Want to talk about it?” He asked as he sat on the bed and took her by the hand.
“No, it was silly. There was no logic to it at all.” She rolled her eyes.
“You look like you’re ready to get out of here.” The nurse smiled as she came in carrying a clipboard.
“Absolutely,” Ciara replied thankful for the change of subject.
The nurse pulled out the IV needle and bandaged Ciara’s hand. Then she handed her the clipboard.
“Here are your discharge instructions. Be sure you get to a doctor for regular checkups on your pregnancy. Take the Tylenol as needed for the pain.” She explained.
Ciara signed the papers and replied. “Sounds easy enough. Thank you.”
“You also need to stop back at our neurologist for a follow up on the head injury. Other than that you’re good to go.” The nurse replied taking the papers and leaving Ciara with her copy.
“Thank you very much.” Ciara crawled out of bed.
“You’re welcome. Take care of yourself now.” The nurse smiled and exited the room closing the door behind her.
Derek picked up the bag and pulled out a slender red sundress followed by a pair of matching heels. Ciara slipped into them easily. She felt a bit awkward as they made their way down the hall. The heels echoed reminding her of the dream. She shivered and shook away the thought.
“You wait here darling.” He smiled. “I’ll bring the car around.”
“Yes dear,” She replied and then sat down on a bench to wait for his return.
Derek pulled up in a pickup truck. He exited the vehicle and walked around to hold the door open for Ciara. He helped hoist her up into the seat then closed the door when she was safely inside. He made his way back around and into the driver’s seat. He then proceeded to make his way to the highway. Ciara reached over and turned up the radio blasting her favorite country station then leaned back to enjoy the long ride back to their home.
