So, Shall We Get Married? -
Chapter 25
Deep in the middle of some paperwork, Caleb opted to occupy his mind for the entire trip with work.
-Mr Palmer, there’s a problem,” the CEO looks up to see the co-pilot. There’s a…
-Dad! I want to get off this plane now. Yes, please, order them to take off,” Talia insists from her seat, and Caleb listens and rolls his eyes.
-Can we take off? I need to leave right now.
[…]The driver was driving very fast, in fact, he was quite fast on the street. She was already getting scared by the speed. She didn’t think it was necessary to run that fast to get to the airport.
Olivia held on tightly to her seatbelt to avoid spinning around in that car, while her stomach was a total mess.
We’re almost there, I think you’ll be in time for take-off, miss.
The brunette didn’t answer, as her mind was occupied with trying not to vomit and also that she was just now remembering why she was on her way to the airport, when she had told her boss that she was resigning.
After the manager of the residence came to her flat to collect from her, she had no choice but to use the voucher Caleb had given her to pay off her debt. And when she saw that she had to pay off the money, she had no choice but to continue working for him.
She had no way to replace the money immediately, and after paying off her debt, seconds later she received a call from her boss. She didn’t want to answer, she didn’t really know what the hell to say to him. But Caleb left her a voicemail, and that’s when he explained the trouble he was in with a supposed business trip and taking care of his daughters.
When she finished listening to him, she let out her breath. She was going to have to go back to work anyway. Although the offer that she would be paid double for those days was tempting enough, unfortunately she was a fair person and would have to speak the truth to her boss.
After being cleared to cross to the airport, Olivia noticed many planes on the runway, and a few others taking off. For a moment she felt dizzy, what if her boss had already left? Could she work by the time they returned? I couldn’t pay that money, I didn’t have a dollar.
[…]Caleb watches the pilot for a millisecond, when out of the corner of his eye he notices out the window that one of his cars is approaching the plane. The CEO’s eyes widen and he thinks it might be Olivia, he wasn’t expecting anyone else but her.
-Wait a minute,” he orders, getting to his feet.
-Dad, what are you doing? It’s time to go.
The blond ignored his daughter, since he suspected that she knew about the proximity of that car. It was no wonder she was in such a hurry to leave.
As they step outside, Olivia gets out of the car… for a moment, the two of them stare at each other from a distance. Caleb’s heart raced to the max, he faithfully believed that she wouldn’t be coming back. But there she was, she would accompany him on his journey. He was relieved, and you could say glad.
The brunette approaches the plane, while the driver takes out his suitcase….
-I’m so sorry I’m late,” he apologises.
-What happened?
-We had an accident, Mr. Palmer. It was all my fault,” the chauffeur apologises. And we both left our mobiles behind in our haste.
-All right, put the lady’s bags in and go back to the house.
Olivia watches her boss’s employee, but she stays where she was. She looks up and notices Caleb looking at her in a strange way. She wonders if he was mad at her for yelling at him the day before about quitting, aside from the bunch of things he said about her daughters.
-Please, Olivia, get on the plane.
-Oh yes, I’m sorry,” he replies, climbing the steps, as he enters the tiny plane, he immediately notices the girls.
-Wow,” Talia exclaims, smiling.
Caleb looks furious at his daughter, and lets her know it with his eyes. So much so, that the young woman looked away and then put on her headphones.
-I’m so sorry about your hair.
The CEO apologises when he sees that she cut her hair to even out the mess she had. The truth is, she left it above her shoulders, and to be honest with himself, he preferred her hair long.
-It doesn’t matter, it’ll grow out.
-It’s just that…
-Sir, we have to take off now,” the pilot interrupts them. Sit down and fasten your seat belts.
-Yes, that’s fine.
[…]The flight was very quiet… Alma fell asleep, and Talia looked out of the window while listening to music. But the girl’s silence frightened Olivia, she knew her little, but she was aware that when she didn’t say or do anything, it was because she was plotting something much worse.
The best she could do was to be careful on this trip, and to keep a close eye on the girl’s every move. Of course, the little girl could not be left behind, she too was somewhat dangerous, though not as dangerous as her sister.
-We’ll be there in a few minutes,” Caleb commented as he read through a stack of papers.
Olivia prepared to grab her things and get off once the plane landed, but then she notices that Alma is still asleep. She looks over at the older sister and she had already gotten off, the dad, was talking to the pilot, so, well, that’s what she had gone on the trip for.
She took the little blonde in her arms, and she in turn wrapped her dainty little arms around Olivia’s neck. The brunette half smiles as she smells the girl’s natural scent, if she wasn’t influenced by her sister, Alma would be a very sweet girl.
The brunette holds her tightly to pull her out of the plane and guide her steps to the car…
No nanny had ever carried her daughter and smiled like that when she did it. Sure, they didn’t take long to get there, but Olivia, she always came back. Did she really care so much about that bonus she gave her? Was that the reason she came back that morning?
It’s just that she didn’t look like the interested parties, he was aware that she didn’t have a job, but… Caleb thought to himself, he was jumping to conclusions.
He walked to the limo, getting into it, there he noticed that the brunette was still holding her daughter in her arms.
-Do you want me to help her?
-She can wake up, let her stay a little longer.
-You don’t mind?
-Why would she?
-She just wants to look good for you dad, she’s not doing it in good faith.
-Talia! -The father rubs the bridge of his nose. I want you, this instant, to apologise to Olivia for what you’ve done to her hair.
-What?
The girl glares angrily at her father, then at the brunette. It was outrageous to her that her dad would ask her to do something like that, like he was asking her to stoop to apologising to an employee.
-He refused me.
-Talia! -He warns.
-I won’t.” She looks angrily at her father.
-You’ll do it because I say so, now you do it.
-No.
-Mr Palmer, I don’t want you to apologise to me. It wouldn’t be out of her anyway, you’re making her do it. I’m sure, when Talia feels it, she’ll really do it.
The young blonde looks at the brunette strangely, she didn’t expect her to say something like that. If she was convinced that she was a dead fly who only wanted to earn her father’s good faith. And with that she was showing that that was what she was after, she only wanted to look good with her father. She was a harpy she had to get out of the way.
-Olivia, please, you need to….
-It’s all right, it’s all right, it’s all right,” the brunette looked back at the window.
And it was true, there was no point in Talia apologizing if she didn’t mean it. Being forced to apologise didn’t mean she was being sincere. What these girls needed was time, and for their father to spend more time with them.
But she was no one to tell her boss what to do with her daughters – after all, she was only the nanny.
[…]Arriving at the hotel, everyone got out of the limousine. Alma was still in Olivia’s arms and Talia was still clinging to her father, chatting with the driver of the car.
Talia was so angry with her dad, but more so with that woman. She was a meddler, she could sense it, she was just an opportunist. He looked at her back, she was carrying his sister like she was his mum.
Suddenly, a taxi pulls up behind their limousine, just as their suitcases are being unloaded. The blonde spotted Olivia’s suitcase, and then looked at the taxi, which had already unloaded the luggage from the car.
On impulse, and when the bellhop got careless. The young woman grabbed Olivia’s suitcase and ran around the opposite side of the taxi. She put the suitcase inside the car and returned to follow her father.
She smiles, and pretends she didn’t do anything… so she couldn’t be blamed.
[…]-I hope your room is comfortable for you. It’s next to the girls, I don’t think she’ll have any problems with it at night, but I’ll still send her to ask her to stay nearby.
-You know you shouldn’t have done that, I could….
-This trip is on me, Olivia. I wasn’t planning to put her up anywhere else.
-But this room is so luxurious,” she says, looking around the room.
Both she and Caleb stood in the doorway of the room as they talked. Of course she was very nervous about the extreme closeness of the man, especially being almost inside such a luxurious and romantic room, but she tried to control herself.
-Don’t worry about that, I’ll take the limousine. But I have arranged a car for you and my daughters. They can go anywhere, as long as you accompany them. I’ll leave you my card so you can eat or buy things,” he holds out a gold card.
-I can’t take that card.
-Why not? -Caleb looked at her in confusion.
-It’s just that… well, I don’t know how to use that. And if your daughters replace out you left me your card, they’ll be furious.
The CEO looked at her in amazement at her answer, that woman was amazing, any other nanny would be happy to take her card and spend her head off. But not her, how different she was from the other women he had met.
