So, Shall We Get Married? -
Chapter 39
-You’re not going to have any trouble, with her,” Caleb stares at her. I promise you won’t. It’s going to be all right, Olivia.
She wasn’t convinced, because she was marrying for love, while he was marrying for commitment. What if he was still in love with his wife, what if she showed up and he let her into his life, of course the only one who would lose out would be her, for falling in love alone.
However, he was the father of her baby, and she was like an idiot in love with him. If she could get Caleb to fall in love with her, she might be able to get him to change his feelings for her during the time they were married.
There was a good chance that she could do it, they got along very well in bed, they had a great rapport and the chemistry was on another level. Of course, she wasn’t stupid, s*x and love were two different things. But at least she could try, since she had that good base.
She would do it, she was going to risk marrying this man and set out to make him fall in love with her… yes, it was the stupidest decision she could make, but she believed he was worth it. Who wouldn’t fight for his family.
-All right, let’s get married.
[…]That night, Caleb had ordered dinner to be prepared at home. The CEO was rather uneasy about it, but it was necessary, since that night, he would inform his daughters that he was getting married again.
For the time being, he did not think it wise to tell them about the baby. It was best to wait a little longer, until they were comfortable with Olivia.
It had been two weeks since he and the brunette had talked about the wedding, and since then, they’d been seeing a lot of each other. Caleb couldn’t deny it, he was having a great time in the brunette’s company, and he even thought the marriage wasn’t going to go so badly.
But that night, well, that night was something else… he had to face his daughters, in this case, Talia. She was the one who could be the most trouble. Olivia told him that Alma had befriended her during her time at the school, that she always visited her in the office until Talia discovered them and well, she ended up getting fired.
Caleb stood up, grabbed his car keys, it was time to pick Olivia up from her house. He thought about sending her to pick her up with the driver, but with how little he knew her, he knew she was a nervous wreck. It was better if she went straight to him to make her feel safer.
[…]The girls waited impatiently for their father in the dining room, neither of them having any idea what their father was up to, since he never hosted a dinner party in the house. Suddenly, Talia’s light bulb went off.
-I know why Dad is hosting this dinner! -She exclaims, getting to her feet, her little sister looks at her dumbfounded.
-Why?
-He’s found Mummy, and he’s prepared all this for her. He wants to surprise her, and us, too.
The little girl frowns, the pleasure with which her sister spoke of her mother did not make Alma happy. She was a child, but she suspected that her father had arranged nothing of the sort for her mother.
Sometimes Talia was too naïve, the little girl denied, while still sitting on the sofa waiting for her father.
-Aren’t you glad he’s going to replace mum? -Talia asks, seeing her not at all excited.
-You shouldn’t be celebrating, we don’t know what dad is up to. Maybe they’re going to send you to boarding school.
The blonde looks at her sister with astonishment, she didn’t think about that, the truth is that it was the least she was imagining. Her dad wouldn’t organise a dinner to tell her that she would be sent to boarding school if she was behaving well.
-Don’t talk rubbish, of course that’s not why….
Just then, the door to the house opens and the first one in is Caleb….
-Daddy, where have you been? -asks the youngest.
-It took you so long, were you looking for someone? -The older one asks enthusiastically.
-Hi girls, well, yes, I was looking for someone who was missing for dinner.
-I knew it! -Talia shouts.
The girl and her father look at the blonde, but Caleb ignores his daughter’s excitement and ushers Olivia into the house, both holding hands?
Talia looked at Olivia dumbfounded, she wondered, what the hell was that woman doing in their house? And why was she arriving with her father? Where was her mum?
-What’s the meaning of this, dad?! -The blonde takes a step towards the couple.
-Oliviaaaaaaaaaaaaa! -Alma runs up to her and with a smile on her lips hugs her.
-Olivia will be joining us for dinner tonight,” Caleb says deadly serious.
-Why? Why did you bring this woman here? -Talia was starting to get hysterical.
-Girls, we need to talk. The four of them.
After Caleb carefully explained to his daughters the decision he had made, leaving out the part about Olivia expecting a baby, the first to object was Talia. Who Caleb thought would be the first to do so.
-How can you even think about marrying this one, Dad? Don’t you realize she’s an opportunist, and all she’s after is your money,” the young woman stands up angrily.
-Talia, I won’t allow you to talk to Olivia like that.
-There’s no reason why they have to get married, what about mum? -Olivia looks quickly at Caleb, and he notices her concern.
-Your mother’s not coming back, and I have to start getting my life together. So I’m hoping you’ll be a little more understanding with me, Talia.
The teenager looks at her father angrily, she couldn’t stop him from marrying the nanny. She was just a child, and he was the adult in that argument; but the blonde knew she was making a big mistake by messing with that woman.
She looked back at Olivia, who was staring at her expectantly.
< What the hell do you want me to say to her? What can I congratulate her on her great deed? What can I do for her is to throw a plate of food on her?
-I don’t agree with this, I will never accept her as your wife. And you will never be my mother, much less my friend. I hate you! -He says to her with evident contempt.
-TALIA! ENOUGH!” Caleb stands up and looks at his daughter seriously.
She gulps at the tone of her father’s voice, she rarely hears him speak in that tone. He was very angry, so she remained silent.
-You will not speak to her in that tone anymore, is that clear to you?
-But she…
-Olivia won’t become your mother, or Alma’s mother. But she can be a friend to both of you, you can try to get along, and since we’ll all be living under the same roof soon, you’d better get used to seeing her.
-What?
-And I don’t want any more practical jokes, remember the warning I gave you. I won’t hesitate for a minute to make it real.
The girl lifts her chin, her father wasn’t beating around the bush. Apparently the presence of this woman turned him into someone else.
-Come on, Alma, it seems we’re too many at this dinner,” she urges her sister to leave with her.
-I want to stay here with Olivia and Papa.
The older sister looks at the younger sister, dumbfounded, Alma approving of her father’s decision. She didn’t care if her mother showed up and found her father married to someone else. She was alone, looks up and sees her father.
-Daughter, please, let’s make this right. For the family.
-What family? This isn’t a family, since mum left, we’re nothing.
Caleb watches his daughter walk away and feels very sad, he had hoped that she would support him in his decision, but he couldn’t even get that from his daughter. She was determined that her mother was going to come back, and that wasn’t going to happen.
It was sad that Talia didn’t want to fix things…
-Caleb, if you want, I can leave, I understand that things aren’t…
-No,” she interrupted the brunette’s words. “You don’t have to go, we’re going to finish dinner. Besides, Alma has decided to join us.
-I do want you two to get married, although I don’t understand why you’re doing it. Are you in love? -The girl looks at them with wide eyes.
Olivia’s cheeks lit up at the girl’s comment, she glances sideways at Caleb and realizes that he was looking at her. That made the situation worse, as her ears and the rest of her body began to boil.
-I don’t think these are appropriate topics for a child,” the CEO smiles at the blonde, but still looks at his fiancée.
-Dad, is Olivia going to live here?
-Yes, she is…
-Can she sleep in my room?
How could he explain to his daughter that he wouldn’t let her out of her room at night?
-Well, daughter, we’d better wait until we get married.
-Don’t you want to sleep with me, Olivia? -Alma asks a little disappointed.
-Of course I do,” the brunette replies. Yes, I’ll sleep with you.
Caleb looks at the brunette, asking her with his eyes what the f**k she was saying, what do you mean, sleep with his daughter? What about him, but she chooses to ignore him. He would settle that matter with her later.
-Well, we’d better have dinner.
[…]Two weeks after the dinner disaster and the attempt to get along better with Talia, everything was set for Olivia and Caleb’s wedding. Since the CEO was a very important businessman, the news of their marriage was made public a week before. Olivia didn’t agree with the news getting out, but what else could she do, when her fiancé was well known.
That afternoon, the brunette was preparing to celebrate her wedding to Caleb. She was very nervous, but the wedding would not be attended by many people. Mostly Caleb’s associates or other friends. But nothing outlandish, and it was the brunette’s decision, she wanted a quiet wedding with no fuss.
To please her, Caleb agreed to her conditions that nothing would get out of hand. They already had a lot to live up to, having been featured in the gossip magazines as the wedding of the year.
Olivia stared at her reflection in the mirror, that wedding dress was unbelievably beautiful. It was so delicate and elegant, she was afraid to go out in it. Caleb had picked it out for her, and it was that way, since she insisted on wearing any wedding dress that wasn’t outlandish.
But Caleb told her that since she wasn’t going to have a big wedding, she should at least wear a beautiful dress. And as much as she objected to him not paying for it, he wouldn’t, and ended up footing the bill.
So, she had no choice but to put it on… it was a fortune she was wearing, though it was a little tight, she figured it was because her belly was starting to grow. She stands in profile and details her abdomen.
-I can’t hide it any longer.
-Hide what? -Olivia gasps as she sees Alma standing in the doorway.
