I headed to Gerald's office as always, that man is an alcoholic. I bet that is a life that Shawn definitely does not want to have. His life was very boring for someone that can literally buy anything he wants or go

everywhere he wishes. It made me realize that rich people's lives are not always that amusing.

"I heard that Shawn broke up with his girlfriend. You did a great job." he started while he got up from his desk chair to sit on the couch motioning for me to join him.

"I only did what I had to do, I want to speak with you regarding Shawn as well. Allow me to speak honestly, sir."

"I am all ears, go ahead," he responded.

"Shawn had made it clear to me the other day that he holds you responsible for his mother's death, I know I am bringing up a sensitive topic here but it's all for a greater purpose. He also did not appreciate how he spent his life growing up and even though he does not replace himself at college with younger students. He still is being obnoxious about getting back to work." I explained.

"He is an adult who would like to operate things on his own as well, I bet he misses the company he started himself," I added.

"So what are you suggesting?"

"I suggest that you talk it out with him calmly aiming that he feels touched with your conversation. If you talked about his mom and showed him that you are as much hurt as he is, and how she would be proud of him when she sees his accomplishments, I think that he would change his mind."

"Shawn is no kid, Lily. He knows what he should do, my words won't have any effect, you have to convince him yourself," he replied.

He was not being cooperative at all. Did he even try to convince Shawn to begin with?

"Ahh, I forgot. Do you need help to get rid of that boy?" he suddenly asked.

I think he is talking about no one other than Jack.

"No, I will take care of it on my own. I appreciate your consideration." I answered wondering if anything slips from reaching his ears.

"You can go finish your business, Lily."

I got out of the room; he knew that I had to go solve the issue of mine. The driver took me to the hospital where Jack is admitted. I asked the nurses about the whereabouts of his room.

"Follow me." The nurse said. We soon reached his bed, tears were about to escape his eyes when he saw me. I can't lie and say that I didn't pity him, people usually get disgusted by their stalkers especially if they weren't that good looking but I wasn't.

Growing up in an ambiance like ours leaves no one with his full sanity; abusive parents, alcoholic and corrupted dads, single moms who sell their bodies, and friends whom you know die out of hunger while you are witness of it all. Jack was left with huge debt as soon as his dad died, he was abused his whole life by loan sharks and never had a fixed home.

I can't blame him for the person he has become since I never went through what he faced in his life to know how would I have reacted.

"I thought I was being obvious when I told you to forget all about me, Jack."

"Please, Lily. I stayed for half a year in prison before I got out, I wanted to pay for my wrongdoings just as you have mentioned. I couldn't resist not seeing you though so I had to get out." he clarified.

"Do you know that I barely stopped Gerald from getting you in prison again, you know that this time you will rot away forever. Those people don't joke around."

"That man is dangerous, you have to run away with me. I know that he is keeping you there against your will, that he is feeding and taking care of you but it is just so fishy."

He was right, I had no choice though. I am being watched 24/7 and if I run away it will be a matter of no time before he reaches me with the amount of money I have.

"I need money," I thought not realizing that I said that out loud.

"I can help you, I can rob your father. It is said that he gained a handsome amount of money from one of his gambles..."

"We can't do that, forget about it. Let me just tell you this... If you promise me that you won't create any more problems, I will come up with an escape plan in a week." I assured him. I gave myself that period o time hoping that I would convince Shawn in this same period.

"Five days," Jack argued.

"Five days it is,"

Jack tormented me throughout my high school life, I can't remember a single good memory when I am with him but I still cannot get myself to hate him since he was a poor pathetic soul.

On my way out, I sneaked to the storage room of the hospital wearing a doctor's gown that I stole from the staff room. I dodged being caught on CCTVs as I filled my wide coat pockets with different drugs that induce sleep alongside anesthetics and even put my hands on scalpels.

I hid them in my clothes and exited the hospital's premises riding in the car. I have a chance of escaping now with this kind of stuff. I will use it when it is the right time but before that, I will have to try to convince Shawn to set me free. I do not want to stop attending college after all. I am not ready to give up my future because of some psycho who captured me for his own unknown advantage.

I wished that everything would end up smoothly but deep inside I recalled that nothing I wished for, ever came true, that is the curse of my life.000000
