Sold To The Billionaire Alpha -
Chapter 23
Orion’s POV
I needed reinforcements to handle the situation with Orchid. I really wanted her unadulterated love. I needed it. I picked up the phone. It was a special phone, enchanted, to make inter-realm calls. Expensive as f**k.
“Mrs Whimsy,” I said over the phone.
“Orion,” she said stiffly
I knew she was not my biggest fan. She had been reluctant to let Orchid come with me. She had only agreed because the alternative would have been death for Mr Whimsy at the hands of the ruthless werewolf casino loan sharks.
“What’s wrong? Is Orchid all right? Can I speak to her?” She said when I was quiet for a moment.
Orchid was asleep in the bed behind me. I didn’t want to wake her but I hadn’t been a very good judge of Orchid’s wants and needs so far.
“She’s ok. You can speak to her. Just wanted to ask a favour first,” I said.
Silence.
“I need Mighty and the cats to come live here with Orchid so she will be happier!” I said.
“Those cats won’t go with you! They barely come to me,” she said grouchily.
“Mighty has been pining for Orchid though. You’ll have to bring Orchid here to see the cats,” said Mrs Whimsy.
“So Mighty can come live with us?” I said eagerly.
“Yes,” she said.
“I’ll arrange a fair price,” I said.
“I don’t want anymore of your money and please don’t tell my husband you offered it,” she said stiffly.
“Ok,” I said.
“Orchid!” She remained me.
I looked at my angel sleeping so peacefully for once. She had had a nightmare and woke me up because she was scared. She had let me hold her while I told her a story my mother always told me.
“If Orchid is asleep does she usually want to be awoken for something like this or not. I’m asking. You know her longer,” I said.
“Wake her up. But she usually doesn’t want to be awoken but she’s never been…away from home this long so…” said Mrs Whimsy.
“I’ll wake her. One more thing! Does Orchid have friends?” I asked.
“Excuse me,” she said.
Did humans not have friends? I was confused.
“Does your daughter have friends…like…companions, people who share common interests of whom she is mutually fond of…” I said, trying to explain friendship.
“Yes,” she said sighing.
“I want to arrange for her friends to come see her on the same day that Mighty is to see her. You know her birthday is coming up!” I said excitedly.
“Yes, I know, she’s my only child. I gave birth to her on that day twenty-six years ago,” she said dryly.
“Yes, she’ll be twenty six,” was my only response. “So on that day, I want her dog to wake her up. Then when she exits her room, her friends will be right there and then…” I began revealing what I had envisioned.
“Let me speak to her,” cried Mrs Whimsy.
She sounded desperate. She must think me a monster. I went to Orchid and kissed her forehead. I whispered in her ear.
“Orchid, Baby,” I said, moving her hair to one side. I pinched her cheek.
She stirred.
“What?” She asked grumpily.
“Sorry to wake you, Baby,” I said softly.
She huffed and turned away, hiding her face under a pillow.
“Your mother is on the phone,” I said.
She shot out of bed so fast she even made me, a war Alpha, jump. She snatched the phone.
“You’re not f*****g with me, right?” She asked.
I was shocked to hear her speak so plainly. She was usually a bit more formal with me. I smiled.
I shook my head and kissed her forehead.
“Mom?” She said on the phone.
“Orchid!!!” I heard her Mom screech.
“Mom!” Said Orchid happily, her face breaking into a huge smile.
I pulled her to me and held her close, burying my nose in her hair.
“I will give you some privacy,” I whispered in her free ear.
She nodded to show she understood. Her mother was talking a mile a minute but I knew Orchid would have difficult things she wanted to discuss. She stood on tip-toe and kissed the tip of my nose.
“Thank you,” she said softly.
I love you.
“You’re welcome,” was all I said.
I would plan the birthday surprise with her mother later. I had so many things I wanted to give Orchid for her birthday. I decided to talk to my own mother while she was on the phone with hers.
“How long do I have?” She called after me as I opened the door.
“Unlimited inter-realm calls!” I said with a smile. “As long as you want.”
She grinned. I shut the door and mind-linked two trusted warriors, one of them being Magnus.
Magnus arrived first. The other guard came a few seconds after.
“My reason for being is in there on the phone,” I informed them.
Magnus nodded. “Luna Orchid,” he said. The other guard, a new but naturally gifted fighter appropriately named Cerberus, just looked at me.
“As always the punishment for anything befalling Orchid is death,” I said.
Magnus grinned, nodding eagerly. He was anxious to impress me and move up in the ranks. Cerberus looked at Magnus as though he were crazy.
“Yes, Alpha,” said Cerberus softly.
I nodded and walked down the hallway.
“Lighten up, Devil Dog,” I heard Magus say to Cerberus as he clapped him on the back.
My mother’s quarters were on the opposite wing. I put Orchid as far away from her as possible in this huge estate on purpose. I did not use my werewolf speed. I took ny time. Orchid probably wanted at least an hour or more to talk to her mother. When I finally reached my mother’s room, I knocked on the door to her chambers. Guards patrolling the hallways looked shocked to see me. They nodded and bowed their heads respectfully. “Alpha,” they said softly.
A lady’s maid opened the door. Should Orchid have lady’s maids. I assumed she would replace them annoying. I also hadn’t wanted a lot of people around to interrupt all the love-making I had thought we would have been doing.
“Alpha!” Exclaimed the lady’s maid, bowing deeply.
Wait this wasn’t a lady’s maid. I recognised her.
Bisa!” I said, if my memory served me correctly.
She nodded, shocked I knew her name.
“May I ask, how is Luna Orchid?” She asked, her eyes wide.
“She’s much better,” I said. “What’re you doing here?”
“Um, serving the prior Luna,” she said.
“But you’re a kitchen worker?” I said.
“She requested me,” said Bisa.
“Why?” I asked dryly.
I didn’t trust my mother one bit.
Bisa grinned. “It was a reward for assisting the new Luna!”
“I don’t want you working for my mother,” I said.
Bisa looked terrified. Was I terrifying?
“Who do you like better my mother or Orchid?” I asked.
Bisa looked like she would keel over in fright.
“It’s not a trick question,” I said dryly.
“Orchid,” she whispered and then flinched as if waiting for something. She opened her eyes, one at a time, peeking at me.
“Would you like another promotion?” I asked.
She nodded.
“You’re now the current Luna’s head lady-in-waiting. You’ll be in charge of selecting other ladies-in-waiting and lady’s maids to serve you and and the Luna, with my explicit approval of course,” I decreed.
Bisa’s jaw dropped.
“Now, go!” I said.
Bisa ran down the hallway. “THANK YOU, ALPHA!” She yelled after me, without stopping.
I mind-linked Magnus and told him to expect Bisa.
I walked right into my mother’s chambers.
“Excuse me,” said my mother when she head the sound of footsteps.
She was at her vanity brushing her long blonde hair. She dropped the brush.
“Son! Orion!” She said, shocked.
She reached upwards and cupped my face in her hands.
“Mother,” I said.
