Orchid

My heat lasted several days but I lost track of the exact number. All the days seemed to blur into one another. Orion kept me in our room. He was insistent that a Luna and her Alpha needed to spend the entire heat together, taking care of each other’s basic needs. We ate. We slept together literally. We slept together figuratively. We bathed together. We groomed each other. We talked. I had never felt quite so cared for and I had never had a man’s complete undivided attention and devotion in quite this way before either.

On my birthday, I was not well enough to attend my party so Orion postponed it and my surprises until after my heat. The pain had passed but I would still get really warm and flushed. I would have energy while we mated but then be completely drained after. I remembered the conversation we had on the morning of my birthday.

“I won’t be well enough for my surprises, will I?” I asked.

“I’m afraid not. Your heat needs to be spent with your Alpha. You need to rest and eat. Nothing else,” said Orion.

“One thing else,” I countered with a sly little smile.

“Ok, fine,” he chuckled. “Besides those three things: sleeping, eating, not sleeping…you won’t be able to focus much on anything but your surprises will wait for you.”

We had birthday cake for breakfast and I blew out my candles from my bed. Orion had wheeled in the cake himself. It was huge, seven tiers with beautiful edible flowers all over it, all in pastel shades. The cake itself was airy but tasted of vanilla like angel food cake and sponge cake had a cake baby. It was delicious. The frosting was cream cheese buttercream. I ate a horrific number of slices for a so-called health professional. Orion filled the room with flower arrangements since I was trapped here. He had so many different dishes brought up to us and I tried to have a taste of each one until I gave up and slumped over in bed.

Orion had gotten me more jewellery for my birthday but I could tell these were not my main presents. He was still hiding whatever the big surprise was. With each time, the nature of our trysts progressively changed from wild, fast and fun to deep, slow and tender. He made love to me. He made my toes curl. He made me cry. He was the first guy to make me cry happy tears rather than frustrated or sad ones. I had cried those too over Orion initially but he was really making up for it.

I lost count of the number of times we got physical. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the possibility of getting pregnant. I knew Orion wouldn’t leave me to raise a baby on my own. He would definitely be an involved father but I hadn’t known him that long. It just felt too soon, but that was the whole point of my heat: to get pregnant. Orion was certainly making use of my heat to the fullest. Orion had given me more o*****s in a week than my ex had given me during a few years.

One morning I woke up and I just felt a lot stronger. I slipped out from under Orion’s heavy muscular arm. I was good at that now. Orion had dubbed me his “little escape artist.” I went straight to the shower before Orion could wake up and baby me. He would have made me take a bath and he would have bathed me himself. I smirked at the thought while the water rained down on me.

“What’s that little smirk about?” Asked a voice I would know anywhere.

“I escaped my bath time,” I hissed at home, rolling my eyes.

He knew I was just joking. I felt his heavy footsteps behind me. How this mammoth of a man could be so gentle was beyond me. Orion’s arms snaked around me from behind. I m****d as his hands cupped my breasts, his fingertips tracing my n*****s, making them harden. I sighed as he trailed his fingers lower, moving down my torso and between my thighs.

“Good morning, Luna Orchid,” he whispered in my ear.

I giggled.

“Good morning, Alpha Orion,” I said, turning around and standing on tip-toe to k**s him.

He hugged me so tightly with both of us stark naked but it wasn’t as heated as usual. This hug was comforting. It made me feel like all my jagged edges were mending and fitting together. Orion was stitching them together. He pressed his forehead to mine. He would leave the room sometimes for barely a few minutes but I knew important decisions were being made very quickly by him during those periods.

“Orchid,” he sighed.

“Yeah,” I said, frowning at his expression.

“I have to spoil one of your surprises because I want you to be prepared,” he said.

My heart began to race.

“What is it?” I asked quickly.

“Your mother is here. She’s been here. She arrived on your birthday and I spoke with her briefly about your heat,” said Orion.

“Ok,” I said slowly, feeling my cheeks burn with embarrassment.

My Mom knew I was holed up with Orion doing nothing but each other.

“Um, go on,” I said. “You’re making me anxious!”

“Your parents have a lot to tell you,” said Orion. “You should hear it from them, ok,” he said gently, kissing my forehead.

He started helping me shower because I had paused in fright. I didn’t want anymore dramatic news. I had heard enough for a lifetime.

“Everything will be fine,” he rumbled in my ear.

“How do you know?” I asked worriedly.

He chuckled.

“Because you are mine and I will make sure of it,” he said simply.

I rushed through the rest of the shower anxious to hear the news. Waiting on things like that made me go crazy. I could tell Orion was regretting telling me so soon. I could tell he had wanted a much more sensual morning routine than me running out of the shower and throwing on a dress with my hair sopping wet. I ran to the door.

“Would you like some shoes?” He called.

Oh.

“Um, yeah,” I said, blushing.

He helped me put them on. I picked flats. I need something I could rush about in. I opened the door and something tackled me. I yelped, falling over. Orion chuckled.

“Are you ok?” He asked.

His laughter calmed me. He would never laugh like that if there was danger. I looked up and Mighty promptly licked my face.

“MIGHTY!” I screeched.

My dog! I screamed.

“I missed you!” I said, hugging her.

I picked her up and flung myself at Orion for a family hug. He laughed.

“I missed her so much! Orion! Thank you!” I said.

Mighty wiggled from my arms to run around the room, zooming all over to express her excitement. She was a blur of black fur for a moment. She flopped down on the carpet, exhausted.

“Let’s take Mighty with us to see your Mom!” Said Orion.

Orion put Mighty on her leash. I recognised the purple leash from back home. Was all her stuff here? This was probably one of my birthday surprises. Orion walked Mighty shockingly well. She listened to him dutifully.

“Where is this good behaviour coming from?” I asked her, shocked.

She gave me an annoyed that seemed to say ‘don’t embarrass me in front of Orion.’

“Mighty really likes you,” I told him.

“I’m a likeable guy,” he said, stroking his chin.

I rolled my eyes. We went to the breakfast room.

“Rose!” I shrieked.

I gave her a hug. She was sitting next to Perseus at the table.

“How are you feeling?” She asked.

“Much…more energetic,” I said, realising I felt quite chipper.

I stretched my arms. I sighed. Perseus was staring at me.

“May I help you?” I asked him.

He gave me a smug smile and said “No” curtly. Whatever. Orion pulled out my chair. I sat down. He put Mighty in a chair next to me at the table. I giggled. She slept on the bed with me at home but she had never sat at the table before.

“Look at you!” I said to her.

She gave me a regal look and turned away, focused on the platters being served.

“Don’t worry, the chefs have prepared food appropriate for her also,” said Orion.

This was so surreal. It was about to get more surreal.

“Orchid?” Said a familiar voice.

I turned around so quickly I almost fell over.

“Kat! Daisy!” I squealed.

Mighty barked at them. She did not like my friends that much. She tolerated them.

“Easy,” said Orion, patting Mighty’s head.

She calmed down. Perseus fed Mighty some bacon. I supposed Perseus was not a total monster either. I hugged my friends and they hugged me back.

“You must be scared out of your minds!” I exclaimed.

“Yes!” Squealed Daisy.

“Hell no,” said Kat. “The guys here are…” Kat paused as a particularly buff and handsome guard passed by.

“Reassuring,” said Kat, smiling at the guard. “I’m not scared at all.”

Kat had a mimosa in hand already. She had a bit of a problem. Daisy asked me where I had been when the earthquake hit.

“It would have been in the wee hours of the morning of your birthday! Orion said you were recuperating! I was worried!” Rambled Daisy. “The bunker was great. Very sturdy!”

She described some things that made no sense but that was Daisy and I loved her. I listened intently. Did my friends know the “hot guys” and other people here were not human? My friends were just crazy enough to not realise something like that, believe it or not. I was technically the sensible friend and look at me, in love with my kidnapper. Orion winked at me. I smiled, blushing a little. It did not seem like my friends were here under duress.

“Where’s my Mom?” I asked.

“She’s coming to breakfast. Sorry, she’s a little late,” said Orion apologetically.

“She’s getting ready, Alpha. I just knocked on her door!” Said Magnus helpfully as he entered the room.

“Magnus!” I said happily.

“Luna!” He greeted me. “How are you feeling?”

Did everyone know I had been through my heat? Except my friends of course. They seemed to think I had been injured in the ‘earthquake.’ The so-called earthquake had been Orion’s Alpha Voice making the mansion shake when I was missing.

“Much better,” I said.

“Good,” said Magnus softly, nodding at us respectfully as he headed out to do his patrols.

“Bye Magnus,” said Kat suggestively.

I pinched her.

“What?” She hissed.

“He has a ma…” I stopped myself. I had almost said mate.

“He has a girlfriend…and…um…she’s so jealous. They’re really devoted to each other,” I explained.

“Men are men,” whispered Kat.

These aren’t men.

I laughed. “I know what you mean,” I said, nodding.

“What’s that?” Asked Daisy, touching my mark, fascinated by it.

“It’s sparkling kind of. It’s shiny,” she said.

Daisy was also a physician like me.

“It’s…a herald patch I think,” I said, picking the first rash I could think of.

“It wouldn’t look like this,” said Daisy. “It would be red and irritated.”

“My skin is so sensitive. Who knows? I’ll check it out at Dermatology Clinic,” I lied.

“Ok,” said Daisy. “But don’t wait too long. It’s good to check out strange rashes immediately. You know that. Why am I lecturing you? Sorry,” she laughed with a wave of my hand.

“It’s ok. Don’t apologise,” I said.

“Oh!” Screamed Kat, making everyone, even the wolves, jump.

“What?” I yelped.

“Happy birthday, b***h!” Said Kat.

I burst into laughter.

“Orchid,” said a soft voice.

I turned around.

“Mom,” I said.
