Sold To The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 51
Aria’s POV
“Are you going to tell me what has been bothering you, dear girl?” Scian’s voice brought me back from my melancholic thoughts and I raised my head to see that I had not filled a single thing on the form that she had given me to do as my assignment for the day.
“Oh, nothing is going on, I’m fine.” I answered immediately.
Feigning a smile, I shrugged and Scian raised her eyebrows in that way that she usually did when she knew that I was withholding information and she wasn’t about to let me go until she knew what was going on.
“I might be over a hundred years old, Aria but I’m sure that when someone smiles the way you did just now, looking like they’re on death row rather than happy about something but have been forced to smile, then there is something happening. Or do you think that you cannot talk to me about what is bothering you?”
I shook my head and sighed.
It had been two days since I saw Roma in his study with Salem and everytime I thought about it, which was every moment of the day, I felt like there was an arrow in my chest and it felt like s**t.
I hadn’t seen Roma in those two days and it was not like I was actively trying to replace him but it hurt even more that he had not tried to contact me.
But why would he? I wasn’t his girlfriend that had caught him cheating. I wasn’t his anything.
I was just the maid that was hired to pay off her father’s debt but for some reason, I always seemed to forget that little fact.
And now I was paying the price for it.
“It’s complicated and it’s all my fault, Scian. I don’t really want to talk about it or I’m just going to be even sadder than I am. I hope you understand that.” I answered and she nodded, reaching out her hand to gently caress mine.
“I don’t know what it is that might be bothering you but I know this. You’re like a sunflower, brightening up the room whenever you enter. And I’m sure that you will be brighter in no time. I know that it might feel hard right now, but time heals all wounds. Okay?”
I nodded even though I didn’t know if time was going to heal this wound of mine.
I was a second away from actually confessing to her that I was a victim of unrequited love when the door to the office opened.
“Scian, I’d like to…” His voice made all the hairs on my body stand and without even meaning to, I turned around to look at him and when our eyes met, he froze.
I’d like to think that just because he hurt me, he would look less attractive to me but right now, seeing Roma, my battered heart started to best faster all over again, the poor thing not caring whether that love was reciprocated or not.
“You’re busy. I’ll just come back in a couple of minutes” He told Scian but I stood immediately.
“Scian, I’ll be in the kitchen with Sophie if you need something. I’m craving some pastry.”
Heading to the door, I kept my head down as I walked past him and I could feel my eyes turning watery all over again as I stepped out of the room and closed the door shut behind me.
He looked absolutely perfect, like nothing had happened and I guessed nothing had happened for him.
I was the one with a bleeding heart.
I didn’t look at where I was going and collided with Scott at the exit door.
He opened his mouth to say something and when I raised my head, his face turned down in a frown.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing? I don’t want to talk about it.”
He nodded and when I looked at him again, I realized that he was dressed more formally than what I was used to.
“You’re going somewhere?”
He nodded.
“Yeah I’m heading into town to get some supplies for the infirmary and some books. Would you like to come with me?”
I was about to hesitate, not because of Scott but because I didn’t want to bother him with my bad mood and end up making him feel uncomfortable the entire ride to and fro with my shitty mood but he noticed my hesitancy and placed one hand on my shoulder, steering me out of the infirmary and into the hallway.
“Come on, Aria. Maybe a change of scenery would work? It’ll help you clear your head.”
Without thinking about it too much so that I wouldn’t end up not going, I nodded and he grinned, taking my hand and leading me out to where the card were parked.
The ride into town was more fun than I had imagined as he asked me questions about myself and I learned about him.
Turns out that Scott is a graduate of Biology and is preparing to apply to med school so that he can return to help the pack, like Scian did.
By the time we entered town, the ache in my chest after seeing Roma had reduced and even though I knew it was going to come back with a vengeance when we returned to the pack, I was grateful for this reprieve.
Shopping for medical supplies turned out to be more fun than I imagined and I laughed as I tried to pronounce some words that I had never heard before. I was sure Nicole would like that I was doing this, especially because she was obsessed with medical dramas and had always wanted to make me watch some.
We stood at the counter when we were done and the middle aged woman smiled at us as she collected the credit card from Scott.
“Young love burns brightly, doesn’t it?” She asked Scott with a smile and when I raised my brows in confusion, she gestured towards me.
The woman whispered to him, but not low enough that I wouldn’t hear it.
“She’s your girlfriend, isn’t she? Such a pretty girl.”
My eyes widened in surprise and when I looked at Scott, he smirked and placed a hand over my shoulder.
“She is very pretty indeed. You see, babe, will you believe me now when I say you’re beautiful?” He asked, his eyes alight with amusement and I chuckled, deciding to play along.
“Yes, of course, I will. Thank you ma’am.”
Scott teased me all the way to the car when we left the shop and I laughed, glad that he had convinced me to come out into town.
“Will you wait here while I get the books and some snacks?” He asked and I nodded, sitting on one of the benches that were located in strategic places all over town.
“Alright, chocolate treats coming right up” He said with a wave and I grinned, taking pictures of the environment with my phone to show to Sophia when we got back.
However, the smile vanished from my face when someone stood in front of my view and when I looked up, I paled in surprise.
Because standing in front of me was Daniel.
