Chapter 85
XANDER
Three days have passed since I sent Maliya away like the seers had ordered and I don’t know how to feel about it. I’m constantly worried about her wellbeing. If she was safe now, and if my child is doing fine among other things.
I sat down in my study room as I went through the pack’s report and I couldn’t help the frown that fell on my face.
The seers assured me that everything would go back to normal as soon as Maliya left the Pack things the way it is.
Just then, the door cracked open and Lord Williams came in with a concerned look on his face.
“What is the situation? Are there any changes with the people? By now, things should be going back to how it used to be. The infected people should be getting better, shouldn’t they?” I asked with a frown and Lord Williams released a sigh.
“I honestly don’t know, Alpha. I’m just coming back after inspecting them once again, and if I am being honest with you, there are no changes. Instead, things seem to be getting worse every day. I don’t know if we are being impatient with the speed recovery we are expecting, but that doesn’t seem to be happening,” Lord Williams reported and I couldn’t help the scowl on my face.
“Three days is enough to see slight progress. I’m not expecting them to get back to normal overnight and start running around like nothing ever happened, but come on! It’s been three days already,” I hissed as I tossed the papers in front of me away angrily.
“I know, but I think we really need to be patient here,” Lord Williams said. “Truly, there are no changes and the atmosphere seems to be getting worse with each passing day, but we have done what was asked of us, so let’s be patient. Who knows maybe time is all we need now?” Lord Williams tried to be positive, but it only annoys me even more.
It was too early to be pointing fingers and I hate to admit it, but he did convince me to send Maliya away with my baby.
What if she was never the problem? The seers assured me that things would go back to normal the moment she gets out of the Pack. It’s been three days already and there is no sign that anything will go back to how it used to be.
The palace is as silent as a graveyard. Almost all the maids have been affected and only a few are still in good condition. I have sent almost all of them back to their homes but if this continues the whole pack would be completely in no time yet, Lord Williams is asking me to be patient? Patients for what exactly? If wasn’t SO
desperate to replace a solution, would I have sent Maliya away in the first place?
I could imagine how hurt Maliya must have felt when she woke up only to realize that she was no longer in the Pack. She is all by herself now and I thought the sacrifice was necessary, now all of that is for what?
I sent a woman heavily pregnant
th
my child away without much help and nothing would go back to normal after doing everything?
I bet Maliya hates me more than she already did for not discussing anything with her before sending her away and now all of this is happening.
“What about the guards you sent with Maliya? Have you heard from them? How is she doing?” I asked with a frown and Lord Williams nodded his head.
“Yes, they sent a word when they arrived at their destination. They also said that Maliya is getting better slowly and once she has fully recovered a few of them would return back to the palace,” Lord Williams announced and I sighed.
I hope the baby is doing fine as well.
“Erm… What do you think we should do with the situation on ground now?” Lord Williams asked and I can’t help but shake my head out of
annoyance.
I made a hasty decision for once in my entire life and now, I am regretting it so bad.
“Call the seers this instant! I need an explanation for what is going on,” I demanded.
*Erm… Alpha, I apologize for what I am about to say in case you pick offense with it, but why do you keep requesting for those seers? They have said what they can, why don’t you summon the Pack priest to see if he’s going to come up with a different solution?” Lord Williams asked and it suddenly occurred to me that I haven’t called him since all of this started.
“Madam Rosalie was the one who recommended them, and she assured me that they are the best among all the association of seers, so I asked her to bring them,” I said as I mentally scolded myself for making such a big mistake.
I didn’t question the seers since they had once told me that Maliya was going to bring chaos to the Pack anyway, so as soon as they came to say the part of sending them away, I believed them immediately.
Fuck! What if Maliya was never the problem? What if I just sent her away for no reason?
I’d have summoned Madam Rosalie but her condition has gotten worse too and she barely stands on her own now.

“So what do you say? Should I send a word to the priest?” Lord Williams asked and I sighed.
“Let him come tomorrow. While you are at it, get the physician to see if there is anything we are missing with the people’s health,” I ordered.
“Yes, Alpha.
Lord Williams excused himself, leaving me alone once again and I soon started to feel suffocated in the room.
I left my study room to take a stroll when I realized that it was already dark. He found himself in the garden and he couldn’t help but reminisce how Maliya used to love coming into the garden.
I shook the thoughts away and went back to my room to relax and call it a day, but I was immediately welcomed by Maliya’s lingering scent.
It was as if heaven was trying to punish me for sending her away because everywhere I turned, I could feel her presence. It was as if she left her print everything and I couldn’t help the sudden feeling of emptiness I felt in the pit of my stomach.
I lay on the bed as I stared at the ceiling for a while before I eventually drifted to sleep.

“Help! Somebody help!” A familiar voice screamed for help in the middle of the woods and I started to trace the sound.
The closer I got, the more my heart raced with fear and I couldn’t understand what was happening.
“Help!” The voice cried again and when I finally located the person, I was shocked to see Maliya tied to a tree with bruises all over her body.
Her dress was tattered and it looked like she had been tortured. A scowl fell on her face the moment she saw me and I couldn’t understand why she looked so angry when she was the one that called for help.
“What are you doing here again? To finish what you started? Haven’t you done enough? I’m going through so much pain already because of you. Do you really have to add to it?” She asked with a frown, making me confused about what she was talking about.
I moved closer to help her remove the rope on her body when she began to shout again.
“Don’t move close to me! Leave me alone! It was enough that you sent me out as a prey to fall in the hands of the predator. Leave me alone!” She screamed. As she struggled to break the rope tied on her body to escape.
She seems to be in so much pain. I can feel it from the way she was struggling so much and I couldn’t understand why it was breaking my heart. “Explain so that I can understand! What is going on!” I demanded but before she could give me a response, she took her last breath and died in front of me.
“Maliya! Maliya! Maliya!” I yelled out from my sleep as I jolted up from the bed.
It was a dream. I haven’t had any dream in so long but the last time I did, it was a sign that something was about to happen which made me know that Maliya is in danger.
I jumped up and gathered the guards immediately when Lord Williams came rushing in.
“Alpha, what is going on?”
“Maliya is in danger. And bring her back this instant!” I de
The guards left immediately to bring her back and I spent the rest the night pacing around the room. I checked the time to see that it was four in the morning and by now, the guards should have returned.
My heart skipped a beat as I thought of what could have been happening when the guards finally returned.
“Alpha, we went to the location where you asked us to go, but there was no one there. We tried to replace the guards too, but it was completely empty.” he said, taking me by surprise.
“What do you mean!”
“I don’t know how that was possible, Alpha, but on our way back, we found some dead bodies and when we checked to confirm their identities, they turned out to be the guards who were escorting her, but Maliya was nowhere to be found.”
