Chapter 1082 He Is The Chairman
At that moment, Autumn returned from the restroom and caught wind of her father's proclamation. Her face turned bright red, for it felt as if her most guarded secret had been laid bare. She discreetly glanced at Alex, curious to see his response.
Alex, on the other hand, was completely caught off guard. He had never expected Stefan to use him as an excuse. What started as an entertaining spectacle had unexpectedly entangled him in their family drama.
Feeling a surge of fear, Stefan worried that he may have angered Alex. Offending someone as influential as Alex would undoubtedly spell disaster for him. However, his impulsive statement was more of a desperate attempt to counter the obnoxious behavior of the Hernandez family.
As he turned his back on Horace and Wesley, Stefan locked eyes with Alex, silently pleading for the latter's assistance. In a hushed tone, he whispered, "Mr. Jefferson, please help me this once. This family has pushed their luck too far!"
The Jones family was an influential family in Nebula City. Moved by Stefan's humble plea for assistance, Alex couldn't turn him down. With a subtle nod, he indicated his willingness to help.
"Stefan, I've always thought you're a smart person. How could you allow Autumn to date someone like him? He might be handsome, but he looks like a kept man. How can he compare to my son?" Horace snapped.
As he spoke, he dragged Wesley over and gave him a pat on the back, like a skilled salesperson promoting a product.
Stefan couldn't take it any longer, his patience finally wearing thin. Alex was his family's savior, so Stefan wouldn't allow anyone to talk badly about him.
A thunderous scowl etched itself between Stefan's brows as he declared in a firm voice, "The man I have approved of is an exceptional individual, not someone who can be easily dismissed. Our families will not be united through marriage, Horace. If you have any plans in mind, I strongly advise you to give up on the thought this instant. We're relatives, so I won't stoop to your level."
As Stefan was obviously fuming, Horace knew he couldn't push his luck any further. Flashing a placating smile, he guided Stefan back to his seat. "Oh, Stefan. How could you say that? We're relatives, so I'm doing this for your own good. I can't stand aside and watch Autumn marry a useless man, can I? Look, he doesn't look like he'll be successful. There is even a possibility he might abuse Autumn in the future!" Hearing this, Alex couldn't hide his displeasure and immediately retorted, "If I am not successful, can you claim to be successful?"
Horace patted his chest confidently and declared, "Of course! I am a successful businessman in Horington with a net worth of at least one billion! And you, you seem to still be employed by someone, right? Working hard all day will only earn you a measly two to three thousand. You are too poor to be a suitable match for Autumn!"
Horace might be operating a business in Horington, but it wasn't thriving at all. His net worth might even be less than one hundred million, let alone a billion. Clearly, all his earlier claims amounted to nothing but a boast. After all, it wouldn't hurt to lic.
"Whether or not he is a suitable match for me is for me to decide. I like him, and our relationship has nothing to do with you. Besides, you don't even know Alex well. He holds far more influence than you can possibly imagine," Autumn retorted indignantly.
She was p*ssed off at the Hernandez family. It was beyond her why her family had such ridiculous relatives.
Horace's lips curled into a disdainful smirk, clearly still looking down on Alex. Confused by Autumn's defense, he replied, "Autumn, I know you're a proud young lady, but why would you lie? He clearly appears penniless. How could he possibly be influential?"
Autumn scowled angrily. She didn't mind if people looked down on her, but she wouldn't allow anyone to look down on Alex. Without hesitation, she decided to reveal the truth to Horace.
"He's the chairman of Four Seas Corporation who you've been dying to meet. Do you get it now?"
